He won a lot of pounds on 'Smarter than a 10 year old' which was on some obsure Sky channel I think. I watched the programme purely because Phil was on it. Load of rubbish really. I think I'm right in saying he won around £100,000? Mind you surely absolutely everyone would stand a chance against a ten year old, even me. Excuse me! Join the queue as I want first dibs on this one as I have the photos to prove I'm right.

Well, someone must be responding because the fund is now on £120. 00p. Come on folks dig deep. Afraid I won't be sending any because I only send money to rescue centres for abused dogs that really need help.

You may be correct about Jessup but you're definitely not about Penhall and I have the photos to prove it. Very nice ones of him with George Best, Geoff Capes and Brian Jacks etc. and photos of him canoeing, weightlifting, cycling, running etc. I seem to recall a rider getting on a bicycle and then falling off straightaway. Was that Collins?

Yes, I agree. I'll have a Border Collie puppy please. Must be female.

Roll up roll up. Let's be having you. £80 so far - target £10,000. http://www.gofundme.com/chrisbomberharris37

Whilst we are on the subject of speedway riders on the tele does anyone remember 'Superstars' (hope it was called that!) back in the 80's I think. Dave Jessup, Bruce Penhall and I'm pretty sure Peter Collins as well took part in that. I've still got some black/white photos of Bruce, which I also downloaded to one of my Speedway albums on Facebook, taken back in the day when he was young, blonde and handsome.

There are often speedway related questions on Eggheads. I reckon someone at the BBC must be a closet speedway fan. Probably never goes to a track though but just sits at home and watches on Sky.
-
Not my opinion in view of how speedway is struggling these days. Ex riders should pay like everyone else. If, for example, I worked at ASDA and got a 10% discount on my shopping this would stop as soon as I left their employment. Why should riders be any different?
-
See you there Victor. I like the sound of that forum and perhaps we can take over the Sport section with Speedway moans?

I love reading Leicester threads because it keeps my brain active translating all the abbreviations before they reach my little grey cells. R/R is of course rider replacement (and there will be plenty of that this season.) PM is a private message and FB refers to Facebook. I'm sure you already know these but if you find out what FK stands for send me a PM on the BSF or FB please as I'm still struggling with that one.

Okay fair enough thanks. I didn't give my email address and anyone trying to get in touch with me via email or telephone will have quite a job to get through my security measures.
-
Glad that's sorted out then so I can easily make up my mind. If Hancock, Lindgren, Holder and any other rider not in the Elite League this season are in the line up then I won't bother going as it will just be an individual meeting. I'll stick with The Storm on the Friday as I much prefer team racing.
-
Okay so why does it say the following on the Coventry website then if it is something completely different? The ERC, last staged at Brandon in 2009, has traditionally been an end-of-season event and has been hosted by Swindon in recent years. Patience, patience. There's still over two months to go and I'm sure there are a lot of riders to contact before the line up can be sorted out.
-
I didn't think any email addresses were given? Edited to put the quote in.
-
It can't be called the Elite League Riders Championship with riders in the line up who don't intend gracing us with their presence this season so another vote for not allowing Holder, Hancock and Lindgren etc. These days I don't normally bother going out of my way to watch an individual meeting as I'm not really interested, but being as it's just up the road at Coventry I'll no doubt be there. Definately shouldn't be any more than £20 admission though.

Thanks. I'm getting the hang of this now...... DH is David Hemsley, YH or JH is Yulia Hemsley. I'm still puzzling over FK at the moment though.
-
What is it with Leicester fans using initials? Some of us old folk find it really confusing. What on earth is RSA?
-
Welcome to the Elite League and missing riders.
-
Almost one and a half hours and no mention of Leicester yet.
-
Thank you. I can get confused easily enough without people giving the wrong initials.
-
Oh okay thanks. I didn't think her name began with a J but I was obviously wrong.
-
Who is JH?

Quoted from Gary's statement on the Bees website.......“Looking back over last season which I still enjoyed, I can say I’ve learned a lot about what’s needed. Hopefully this year I’ll be able to put right anything that I did wrong, and I’m really positive about the new season.” So let's hope as well as the things Sir Jasper has mentioned that he has also learned to keep his gob shut about anything to do with Poole because he is supposed to be Coventry's team manager. If he wants to praise them do it via a private message to Matt Ford rather than on Twitter because strangely enough we are not amused.
