When Is "the Time"?
Gemini replied to oleoleole's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Don't be daft! -
More go than touch I reckon. Did we not leave the stadium this year until getting on for 11pm? Doing the maths (and I can just about manage this sum) that makes it 9pm for a 5pm start. Of course there is always the option of missing the presentations and fireworks.
-
Who cares? If it means me not getting back home again on Sunday until dawn is breaking then it's a good idea. I think our coach went back the "pretty way" on the return journey home.

Gosh this thread has been a bit confusing for an elderly mind to follow. Glad everything was sorted out in the end and that Jack Scott is getting on okay, also that Bluey is alive and well back home in Australia. I don't know if anyone is interested but I took this photo of Bluey (Eric) in 1965 but don't know whether it was at Edinburgh or Glasgow - probably Glasgow I think. Take note of the luxury style of travelling back then, complete with bike strapped on to the back of a car. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2752081620047007148VBPATs

Oh god!! I'm getting worse. Just ignore me in future.

My abiding memory of Rick Miller is the race at Coventry when he was the only rider left after the other 3 had been excluded and he himself was excluded by referee Geoff Dalby for "not making a bona fide effort to race." Bah!! Rick was only trying to entertain the crowd by popping wheelies. No harm done.
-
As it looks like Allen Trump will be staying on for another year at Coventry and he sponsors Chris Harris, I wonder what will happen now? I can't see Chris moving to another team so it looks like it will be same as usual for the Bees with loads of Monday meetings. So much for getting back to some consistency and regular Friday night racing.

If only.....if only I hadn't gone senile. It's no good asking me I'm afraid as I can't remember things from last week never mind 30/40 years ago. One thing I do remember though (only because I've got it on video somewhere) is another Leicester v Coventry match when Mark Courtney was leading Ole Olsen and on every lap he trailed his leg through a big puddle on the track so the water splashed over Ole. I don't think he was very pleased, especially as he didn't manage to beat Mark either. Hope you are keeping well Bee.

I'm saying nothing 'cos I get into trouble for criticising riders who don't bother to acknowledge the fans. Perhaps there is just something about Coventry that makes them turn into miserable sods. Martin Rogers had the best idea and knew how to treat his supporters. If a Leicester rider won, or they got a 5-1, he used to stand by the pits gate and not let them in until they'd done a victory lap.

I was rather hoping you wouldn't. Welcome back to the forum Jim.

Is it? Any idea of the date?

You're doing a great job with your website dantodan. Thanks.

Has anyone mentioned Wembley yet? Sticking speedway pictures on the car ready for the journey down south, scarves hanging out of the windows. The papping of the car horn every time another Wembley bound car passed us. It was always "passed" in our case because the top speed in our Beetle was 60mph. Happy memories, but I still wouldn't want to go back to the one off final at Wembley.

What about Thursday for Arena? -
Gelsenkirchen Off !
Gemini replied to smartace's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Me....me. I'm a happy speedway fan and it takes some doing after the season Coventry have had. Mind you it could be worse. I could be a Wolves fan. You have my deepest sympathy Wolverine. That could be a very good question in some future sports quiz programme. They'll never guess the answer. Or "What happened next?" on Question of Sport. -

So no cover on the barge then? Surely there is always the possibility of rain. The track was being laid 4 days ago on October 7th so what's happened to the famous "track drier outer" belonging to Colin Meredith? Surely this would have been an ideal time to make use of it. -

Well, you know it is a genuine reason when a rider misses a Grand Prix so get well soon A.J. -
£5 each. It's under Bargain Books for Christmas so I should think so. http://www.retro-speedway.com/home.php

Take care that you don't disappear. -
Sure is. Mostly found posting in the Conference League section, but just put her name in the members search and you can send her a PM. Her forum name is Jayne.
-
Send Jayne a P.M. Kev. She's married to his son I believe so she'll know where Ken was born.

Heaven forbid. Anyway peace seems to have descended over the forum so perhaps Sub has turned over a new leaf and won't be so unpleasant in future.....or he could have been banned for a while of course. Wouldn't be surprised to be honest as he seems to have been on even more of a mission lately.
