  1. http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=cissie+and+ada&go=Submit+Query&qs=bs&form=QBIR You're too young. Les Dawson was Ada and Roy Barraclough was Cissie.
  2. Had she got to get back to do some ironing or something? Surely the decision to call it off shouldn't just be the referee's when the promoters/riders were willing to give it a go? I don't know about the 1st bend but the 4th didn't look too bad. Admittedly there was a massive puddle on the inside line but after the match had been called off two men with brooms were pretty successful in getting rid of the water. I really don't think enough is done these days to get matches on when it's a nice warm night after a downpour. Years ago a few bags of sawdust would have been put down and the riders would get on with it.
  3. It's posts like this that make me enjoy the forum still. After a wasted journey to Brandon tonight thanks for the laugh.
  4. Yes I know. I'm in a funny mood today. I'm sure it will change after I've been to the Coventry v Eastbourne match.
  5. That's a surprise. Everyone got over their tantrums now?
  6. I was asked if I wanted to join this about 2 months ago, perhaps less than that, by someone called John Hyam.
  7. Afraid I've got to agree with Tsunami. I can't recall the racing being any better years ago than it is now - just a mixture of a few good races, the rest a bit processional and a nail biting exciting one if we were lucky. I've got a couple of Leicester v Coventry videos from 1982 and apart from the close score and the obvious rivalry the matches were nothing special. Same with the Wembley 1981 World Final that everyone seems to rave about - play it back and the racing wasn't that brilliant, apart from 3 or 4 races. I'm old and have been a fan since 1949 but I definitely don't yearn for the 'old days' or one off World Finals. What's wrong with speedway now is not down to the racing but many other things which have been discussed over and over again on the forum so I won't repeat them. It would also probably mean me saying that dreaded word 'Poole' at some point so I won't bother.
  8. Does it matter? Of course it's to get more fans on the terraces but it's still a nice gesture that needn't have been made. Two matches in four days is expensive.
  9. Yes, well done promoters. If only they'd now stop playing silly buggers and give the teams out in their proper order instead of alphabetical. Thanks in advance.
  10. And those they have they hound out because they dare to want the same rules for everyone.
  11. It might be awful but it's still good to be able to watch if it's your own team riding away. It would be better of course if only Tellboy would spill the beans about how to get full size screen but he seems to have ignored that question.
  12. Oh for heaven's sake! Another wasted trip for Sir Lunchalot after travelling from Belle Vue yesterday ......which was another wash out. I bet he'll be glad to get back to Australia.
  13. I don't know but there are certain members on here who would easily qualify to be Grumpy.
  14. But could they? More than likely the rule wouldn't have been changed mid season for another promoter.
  15. All I can say is thank goodness for a terrible memory. It certainly rings a bell as being a long drawn out meeting and I know I was cheesed off at the time - probably made worse by the fact Kings Lynn won (I've just had to check the score) - but I've forgotten all about it now. Hope it's a better meeting this time, good weather and there are no delays. Also hope to see you at some point.
  16. Don't know about Neil Watson but Mick Horton was at Leicester on Saturday night watching the Wolverhampton match so with Beaumont Park's reputation for boring racing he must be keen on the sport. (Must add that there was actually some good racing for a change.)
  17. Coming back from holiday a day early so I don't miss this one. Toll Barr island on a Friday in rush hour? I guess I'll find out what it's like. Too true! Just a post from Phil Morris on here would have ended all the speculations but saying absolutely nothing makes it all a lot worse and we come to our own conclusions. Why should we and would he answer a pm anyway? Phil has often posted on the forum but is strangely quiet now. Just an explanation as to the reasons for Compton dropping down the list would suffice. Simple but it's not been forthcoming so we all know what that means.
  18. As I don't have Sky the decision is easy - it would be the Swedish League on Eurosport. Would be but won't because I'm not interested.
  19. 3 3 3 1 1 .....suggests the poor old soul gets tired the longer a meeting goes on.
  20. Hope this meeting goes ahead if only for the sake of the U.K's biggest travelling fan at the moment - Sir Lunchalot over from Australia. Wasted journey up to Newcastle on Sunday, following Leicester on Saturday night, and I know he is heading for Belle Vue today. Fingers crossed.
  21. Really good is my very unbiased view. I don't go very often and even my husband had given up earlier this season because of the processional racing, but I must say that match must rate as one of the best at Beaumont Park and certainly the best I've ever seen there.
  22. I know the answer........ it's 'Probably not.' Can we all go to bed now?
  23. As a sort of neutral that was actually a very good match. My main reason for going was to meet Sir Lunchalot from way back on the forum. I was half expecting him to weigh about 20 stones but he obviously doesn't do what his name suggests and looks very slim. Hope you enjoy the rest of your speedway tour round the U.K. Howard.
  24. That's what is so damn annoying about rider absences. Why can't promoters just be honest instead of trying to pull the wool over our eyes saying a rider is ill. I'm sure it is yet another 24 hour sickness and Pawlicki, like many before him, will be perfectly fit tomorrow when it suits. I wonder what excuse he used when he missed the last Leicester v Wolves match. Don't bother checking though because I'm not that interested as I'm thoroughly cheesed off this season.
