  1. God help you if you end up with Newman or Morris at 1. I can see Birmingham being one of the teams making a change pretty early on.
  2. Time to go one better! 1. Hume 8.10 2. Brennan 8.41 3. Ledwith 3.50 4. Jenkins 7.04 5. Woodhull 4.86 6 d Thompson 2 7 Palin 2
  3. Got around 5.23 to play with so neither would fit.
  4. I'd still argue in the case of losing your job I still don't see it as remotely the same. Yeah, riders might pick up places later in the season, but it's not a guarantee and life doesn't stop for these riders. Who are we to know these riders don't rely on these jobs? They live in the here and now, and for the likes of McDonald, Lambert and Campton you have to feel awful for. In Campton case, he's in the absolute worst position because it's looking at 2 years out with how the visas work. Again, I do feel sympathy and you know I'd be heartbroken if Sheffield closed. I am 100% sympathetic to their case, but you'll never convince me that the riders haven't been hit hardest by this.
  5. You try reading Mason Campton article and tell me again that it's harder on the fans than the riders. I have full sympathy for the workington loyals. But I'm sorry, nothing compares to losing a job or in Campton case, a career.
  6. Don't talk absolute rubbish. The lad has lost his job and as hard as it is for the fans, it's nothing compared to the riders. It's their livelihood and we're at a point now where it's getting harder and harder each year to truly make a living in speedway. And let's not pretend that Bickley hasn't been loyal to workington. It says a lot when a rider admits he was aware the situation wasn't good, more than likely had offers elsewhere and still sticks with them. That speaks great volume to a young rider like Kyle who could've easily moved on but didn't and unfortunately he's now paying the price. Out of all of the riders he's probably the most fortunate as he is more likely to pick up another team. But until he has another team, then it simply means nothing.
  7. Nah I'm sorry. I don't buy the whole "use it or lose it" speedway is way beyond point now. The diehards don't cut it anymore. Promoters need to work on the sport and make it worth the admission and the only way they're going to do that is working on the overall presentation and quality. If it's not there, the sport will die regardless. The sport is absolutely on its arse and scaremongering has never saved a club and it never will.
  8. Feel desperately sorry for the fans and riders at workington. After years of threats of closure it's finally happened, and probably at the least expected time... You'd think after a treble winning season the place would be absolutely buzzing with fans old and new? Surely this should have been the basis to build a new fan base and gather lots of momentum from a massively successful season? Evidently something very wrong from October to now. But if there was any suggestion that Workington couldn't run the season, then they never should have set up with the intention. It's not fair on the fans, the riders or quite frankly, the other teams that have set out their stall for the season ahead. I do hope Workington are back next season in some capacity but I think it'll take someone with very deep pockets to get them up and running again.
  9. Thought it was a joke when people said Chessell was signing. Must've spent all the budget on cookie...
  10. He was an Ipswich asset but looks to have gone to Birmingham full time. Very poor signing, should do better if he's at reserve, but there are far better riders than Paco out there.
  11. Think with the standard of the league this season, Flint should be more then fine.
  12. Honestly I think only thing that lets it down is Gappmaier. Just don't rate him if I'm honest. But if Garcia can ride to the level he was at the back end of last season then it might not even be an issue. It's just if Fernando will do the business in main body of the team.
  13. Garcia and Flint are a very good reserve pairing in this league. Could easily be a season of swapping between Gappmaier and Garcia for that number 6 spot and flint should be one of the better number 7's in this league. Interesting side built by Berwick, but one that should do the business round Shielfield
  14. I'll have to go 1 better and win it next year now!
  15. Think we've got a good team overall. Not massively convinced with Nicol, we saw glimpses last season of a good rider but not much consistency and didn't really do much when he dropped to reserve either. My only worry is that whichever rider of the bottom 3 ends up in the main body throughout the season is in for a rough time. But hopefully won't be the case. King should do his job at 1, Proctor is what he is in this league but Andersen and Howarth, they could be the big difference in the team. A fully fit Howarth will make a mockery of that average and I think we saw enough from Andersen to know we've got a rider on a bargain average. With a bit of luck, we should be fighting at the top this season.
  16. You know, I don't think sarj would be too bad of a signing really. Rode pretty well on his last visit to Owlerton. Not the most exciting rider, but could prove useful in this weakened League.
  17. Last 2 annouced tomorrow. I'm gonna go Sarjeant and Howarth.
  18. Think they could've done with it being an hour later. 5pm I think would have suited people who do work Sundays.
  19. Wouldn't be too displeased with the team. But I think we're missing out if we don't end up signing Berge, he's an absolute bargain on that average and can easily be knocking double points round owlerton at second string. Think it leaves us too vunerable at the bottom end of the team, I dont doubt any of Kemp, Kennedy or Nicol ability but I think they'd all find it tough riding in the main body of the team.
  20. Douglas last average was 6.12 from 2017. I'm working it out under the assumption that king and howarth would both get the 2.5% reduction. So it'd be King 8.68 Andersen 5.20 Douglas 6.12 Berge 5.03 Howarth 6.78 Kennedy 4 Kemp 2 37.81
  21. Glad to see Kasper back at Sheffield. Hopefully we won't have any issues with him being signed up for Poland, but should be a really solid second string in this league. Could potentially go with- 1. King 2. Andersen 3. Douglas 4. Berge 5. Howarth 6 Kennedy 7 Kemp
  22. I doubt we'd sign Shanes now with his Sunday commitments unfortunately.
  23. Has the average changed for new riders.? I was under the impression Zaine would be 5 or 5.20.
  24. Think montain will be Leicester. Look at the averages, I think the likes of Berge, Andersen and any of the up-and-coming 2 points (Flint, Brennan, Kemp, Bickley) will be big acquisitions now.
