BIRMINGHAM Brummies are set to rise from the ashes next season – with an application to enter Speedway’s National League. Former club owner Tony Mole has confirmed he will be entering the Brummies – with their traditional yellow and red race jacket colours – in the third tier of the sport as a starting point to rebuild the club. All home meetings will be staged at Perry Barr with Cradley Heath also racing at the Aldridge Road venue on alternate weeks as the Heathens aim to defend their title. Said Mole: “I am delighted to confirm I have reached agreement with all parties for Birmingham Brummies to submit an application to join the National League next season. “This is very much the first stage in a rebuilding process and if the team is a success and we get the necessary support from fans then I will be looking to take the club up into a higher level. “I am pleased to see Cradley Heath survive and they will be the team everyone wants to beat next season. They have won the title for the last two seasons and will be going for the hat-trick, but I have two main ambitions myself for 2015 – win the league and beat Cradley! “We will be building a competitive team and I have a team manager in mind. More announcements will be made in due course, including our opening night details

From Cradleys site CRADLEY bosses have confirmed they are in talks to try and keep the club on track at an alternative venue next season. The nomadic club have spent the last five seasons racing at Wolverhampton – but Monmore is only available to Elite League Wolves next year. Chairman Nigel Pearson said: “We are doing all we can to secure our immediate future although we do realise what a worrying time this has been for our supporters. We have our end of season presentation this Saturday, there will be 300 people at the Copthorne Hotel in Brierley Hill and we don’t want it to be the last supper. “It’s fair to say we are working overtime to try and reach agreement with an alternative track to race our home meetings next season, but at the time of doing this interview there is nothing in place. “That’s not to say things will change by the weekend, all we can tell our fans is we are doing our best but there are several obstacles to overcome. We are in a weak position, we have no home and we need to do something quickly.”

Birmingham Brummies may start from the bottom again Nov 12, 2014 09:28 By Richard Jones Tony Mole says the option of starting Birmingham Brummies in the bottom tier of British racing is the only one currently open to revive the Brummies. Tony Mole has admitted for the first time he could enter a Birmingham Brummies side in the 2015 National League. The Kidderminster-based businessman says the option of starting the club again in the bottom tier of British racing is the only one currently open to revive the Brummies. He admits he has come under pressure to keep the Brummies on track at Perry Barr despite withdrawing interest in entering them straight back in one of the top two divisions. Mole said: “It’s the British Speedway AGM this weekend and Birmingham Speedway will not be declaring any intention of entering the Premier or Elite League. Whether the National League is a possibility at this stage, I’m not really sure. I can see the merit in keeping the Brummies on track and I know there is a fanbase there desperate to see the club racing again. “But you have to remember the majority of sponsors who backed the club previously have turned their back because of the way the club folded mid-season. “I have to do a lot of thinking before making that decision. It would have to be viable. I am no longer in a position to take on the responsibility of a speedway club personally, but I will consider the option of National League racing.” Mole has also responded to speculation linking Cradley with a move to Perry Barr after the Heathens lost the use of Wolverhampton’s Monmore Green. He said: “I’m aware of the speculation but I’m afraid there is nothing to report. “Of course, we don’t like to see clubs close down, but sometimes circumstances happen which make it impossible. If anything changes with Cradley, then I will offer an update. “There is certainly no agreement in place between Cradley Heath, the GRA or myself at this moment in time.” Mole pulled the plug on a potential Premier League application a fortnight ago after a lack of interest from investors and sponsors. Former commercial chief Joe McLaughlin has been working behind the scenes to help Mole but has suffered several knock-backs from disillusioned backers after the collapse of the club last July.

From Cradleys Official Site NATIONAL League Speedway champions Cradley Heathens have only a 50/50 chance of coming to the tapes next season. Heathens have lost the use of Wolverhampton’s Monmore Green track in 2015 and have so far failed in their bid to secure a piece of land of their own within the Dudley or Sandwell region. Now the club are running out of time if they are to secure a place on track next season with negotiations ongoing between several parties. Cradley chairman Nigel Pearson said: “We had a full day of meetings on Monday but we have been unable to conclude any business for next year. “We acknowledge this is a worrying time for our supporters and as a management team we promise to do all we can to ensure Cradley Heathens come to the tapes for the 2015 season. “I won’t comment on potential venues for our home meetings because it would be unwise to do so at this stage. It isn’t a simple, straightforward process when it comes to operating on a track which ultimately isn’t our own. “The new track project has been frustrating, if there is one area where we have so far failed as a management team it is that – we’ve done five years and still haven’t secured a track of our own. “It’s ongoing, but we also want to keep the club alive for the fans – they are the reason we do this.”

Tony Mole can't dig Birmingham Brummies out of their hole Nov 04, 2014 08:59 By Nigel Pearson Tony Mole has pulled the plug on plans for Birmingham Brummies to return to the Premier or Elite League next season after sponsors and investors refused to respond to requests for help. Tony Mole says anybody interested in reviving the Birmingham Brummies will have to start from nothing. Mole has pulled the plug on plans for the club to return to the Premier or Elite League next season after sponsors and investors refused to respond to requests for help. And he said: “This is basically down to the mess left by the previous promotion. “We’ve been approaching sponsors who would have been happy to help but they have been left feeling very bitter about what happened last season. “And we have season-ticket holders who paid for a full season of speedway only to see half of it at best. There is too much apathy at the moment. “To run Birmingham in the top two divisions is a step too far at the moment and I’m sad it has come to this, but it’s a crying shame there is a perfectly good track and stadium doing nothing where speedway is concerned. We even had one sponsor who would have been happy to help but was left thousands out of pocket last season. I can’t believe how bad it got. “I would welcome any move to bring Birmingham back and would support it wholeheartedly .” But Mole has also warned time is of the essence with the British Speedway AGM coming up next week. “That’s the time when declaration needs to be made to the British Speedway Association for membership of the top two leagues and if anyone wants to step up and do it now is the time,” he said. “There are so many Birmingham fans who have been left disappointed and I can fully understand that, but at no time did I ever intend to build up their hopes. “The bottom line is there is a lack of investment right now and at my age I cannot take on the full-time commitment and pressure of running Birmingham all on my own. “The mess left over from the previous promotion has, unfortunately, proven to be too much to overcome.” Modify message

The Cradley Squatters sounds good

From 2days Birmingham Mail Tony Mole has refused to rule out the possibility of Cradley taking over use of Brum’s Perry Barr stadium in 2015. The nomadic Heathens have used Wolverhampton’s Monmore Green circuit since their return to the shale in 2010 some 14 years after the closure of their Dudley Wood track. However, they were recently informed their adopted home will no longer be available for regular racing. With Mole cancelling plans to bring Birmingham back to the tapes in 2015 due to lack of finance, speculation has naturally linked their neighbours to the vacant Perry Barr track. Having purchased vital track equipment from administrators following the collapse of the Alan Phillips ’ Brummies promotion, Mole’s position is crucial in deciding whether speedway will return to Perry Barr in any form. However, he says the Heathens’ fate lies in the hands of their promotion with the clock ticking on any decisions ahead of the sports’ AGM. Said Mole: “It’s impossible for me to say really whether I believe the Heathens will be riding at Perry Barr next season, because it’s a matter for their promotion to consider. “They need to consider all the facts and decide whether they would want to take the risk of moving the club to Perry Barr. Maybe the fans would follow the Heathens to Perry Barr but it’s not for me to say. “The BSPA will hold their AGM over the weekend of November 14, and that is when plans will be set out for the 2015 season.”

TONY Mole has regrettably announced he has shelved plans to bring Birmingham Speedway back to the tapes in 2015. Mole had been attempting to revive the Brummies following their closure midway through the 2014 campaign following the collapse of the Alan and Charles Phillips promotion. However, several meetings with potential investors have failed to generate the finance needed to bring the Perry Barr outfit back to life. The news comes as a bitter blow to Birmingham’s loyal supporters, with the sport set to be lost to the city for another 12 months. And a disappointed Mole has revealed there was simply not enough interest to make the proposition financially viable. Said Mole: “Our attempt to bring Birmingham back in 2015 has failed because there are insufficient financial pledges being made to meet the targeted figure of £100,000. “We are unfortunately unable to proceed because of insufficient finance, and for that reason I won’t be able to promote speedway in the Elite League or Premier League at Perry Barr next season. “It’s extremely disappointing – we’ve had one or two people show interest but they haven’t followed it up as a result there just hasn’t been sufficient interest in bringing speedway back to Perry Barr to make it happen.”
