Well of course AJ turned left , thats what most riders do when entering a corner , unless they either have (a) a death wish ( a desire to check out the air fence © maybe both Gollob made a dash like he always has done , and yes he was slightly in front , but carrying that speed he definately took AJ's leg from under him . The replays were conclusive. It was no dying swan act . It was blatant patriotism from the ref .

Hence why Ole Olsen never had any dirt down when he was in charge . -

Didnt Zorro win the Swedish title in the rain a couple of years ago ? Not sure which track tho . -
World Team Cup - Qualifying Rounds

True , but its the bigger picture that pees me off . Look at the great riders from the states that we've had the privilege of watching over the years , and who do they have now ? Just Hancock at the highest level , and no-one else from the states anywhere near his level . Unless the authorities over here let US riders come over here on realistic averages , US speedway is dead . Sorry for airing my grievances on this thread , couldnt be arsed to start a new one . -

Same as always , bottom of the pile . -
While there's no excuse for what he did , how come he gets a custodial , and that tosser Pete Doherty , who gets nicked every other week for drugs offences still retains his liberty ? Is it ok coz its rock 'n' roll ? Stinks like the bog door of a kipper trawler to me.

Thanks for the pic Jim.I had the pleasure of watching Vaclav every week at Exeter during his career in the UK , and the man was fearless, not the best gater but brave as they come when behind, and he did use the fence to his advantage very often. The Green machine was the only rider who could challenge Vaclav as the best passer at the County Ground, and both more than worth the admission fee.

Great footage, and have to say it looked a REAL racing track. How we could do with more tracks like that these days.
-
The 'man in blue' enjoyed a good spell at Exeter later in his career , and believe me his enthusiasm was still very evident , not the best gater , but fearless when behind.A great servant to the sport.

Me too. Needed Greg to score more than NP for a decent wedge , gotta blame Harris for letting NP pass him their last race

Grand Prix Challenge.
Phlipphlopp replied to a4poster's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I think this needs some closure. It doesnt matter what you , me , or anyone else thinks. He qualified, with the likes of Lindgren , Bomber, et al in the field. How he prepares for next season due to the GP's is up to him , and no doubt he will do things the best way he sees fit.How would you like to be told in your job that you are too old , even though you have just seen off all the competitors ? Do you see what i'm getting at ? Give the man a break. At the end of next season , it might well be proven that he wasnt up to it.But , he qualified , whilst other riders with 'more ability/younger' didnt. You cant win the raffle if you dont buy a ticket, he did and good luck to him. -
All i said is that Zorro deserves to be there on merit, but too many on here are concentrating on his age and not his ability. He won through, and deservedly so.Greg is still good for his age , and so is Zorro.Do you really think he should give up his GP chance just because he's 37/38 ?
-
Good enough to win this event.Who knows in the GP's ? He's earned his crack.Suppose you want Hancock out the GP's due to his age as well ? He's there on merit , end of.

No Tv Or Streaming ?

Apparently Ole was asked to prepare the track tonight, but after one look thought it would take too long to remove the shale -
Well done to the qualifiers.Holder is class, and deserves to be in the GP's.A lot will knock MZ , but as proven again tonight , can beat anyone when in the mood.Bought his ticket , and won a prize .

Grand Prix Challenge.
Phlipphlopp replied to a4poster's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
What a tosh post. You said yourself Gollob is still a top rider. So are at least a dozen of the current GP riders. Are you advocating that when a rider reaches the top of his profession he should just drop out by virtue of being a 'top rider' ? The top guys are still there because they are the best. How many of the top riders have had to qualify via the GP challenge ? -
British Riders
Phlipphlopp replied to Phil The Ace's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Theres bound to be at least one Brit in the GP's , but why , oh why can none of them ever gate consistently or have quick machinery ? When was the last time we had a brit who could gate like a ferret with his arse on fire , and have speed to match ? Take Nicholls and Harris , both have talent, but cant gate for toffee.Surely , if it were you or me with their talent , wouldnt you spend every spare hour(if they have any), trying different things to improve their starting techniques, set ups etc ? Or , because they are so busy , is it a case of they dont care because they are earning good cash as it is ? Even Loram , who won the World Championship without winning a GP, was a crap gater(effing fab from the back tho).I think our up and coming riders need to master the art of gating first, and be consistent at it , beacause if they dont , GB riders will be in the wilderness for years. -
Scott Autrey would have made the very top under the current system, and maybe the one off finals. His big fall-out with the AMA ended his ambitions, and ultimatly his love affair with speedway.Better than Penhall in many's eyes.
-
You might just have twisted my arm ! Anything speedway which gives a good insight into the sport i've followed for 35 years rocks my boat, need to get out more i think ! (prob lemo's testimonial next for me)

Would not give the man any of my hard earned , after the years of paying at Exeter to see him ride and get fobbed off by a feeble excuse every time he was due to visit
