Rider insurance (or lack thereof)
THE DEAN MACHINE replied to Dave_minall's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
It doesn’t really matter who’s fault it is, it just needs sorting and sorting now, it’s a problem that should never raised it head in the first place but we are here and it needs a quick satisfactory solution -

Was just looking at the race times tonight against Leicester and it seems bikes are going even slower this season compared to last couple of years, times around the 64 second mark tonight which was the Sheffield track record in 1982 on a weslake, progress eh -
Not sticking up for Osbourne but he has already has a long history in speedway and stock cars but he is a business man and is in business to make money and if speedway was in a better financial position then I’m sure he would be on speedways side

This article fully tells you all about the bspl, putting aside the actual issue of the insurance which is shocking it’s the lack of reply’s the lack of solutions and just sheer incompetence of the bspl, I have said it many times speedway faces many threats of extinction from all different quarters, money, planners, greyhounds and everything else but when you scratch away at the surface at all these issues it comes back to a sport that is run so badly it doesn’t know how to defend itself and has nobody who can fight for speedway’s corner and no ideas to take the sport forward and when challenged disappears into a corner not to found,”if I put my fingers in my ears I can’t here the phone ringing then I don’t have to answer it “ that is speedway mentality, I hope Richard Coleman is the man to take on the BSPL and finally break down the barrier that many have failed at, time will tell, he has already taken the first step and rubbed them up the wrong way and they will be seething at him but we will see what happens next -
They all should be riding for coppers, it’s the national league not a pension fund

Nora are only like the acu, they have no say in any speedway matters

I’ve just read the mess that’s been talked about on social media and I’ll say this, speedway never learns from its mistakes, maybe we should introduce a points system for anyone who wants to get involved, everyone starts at 5 points and you lose a point for every black mark against your name and when you down to 3 points you’re not allowed to run/promote any speedway team, some may say we wouldn’t have anybody left to promote/run any teams. Well that’s the point we keep getting bad wood

Like I said I had my suspicions about one rider, it seemed like just before the end of season he would slide off and get a back injury and it was around that time that the CICA stopped new customers -

No but it may be helpful when it’s a dull meeting -
The air fence problem has never been a problem with the fence itself, it’s what is behind the air fence

Not sure who really does a good injury policy these days, back in the day CICA was by far the best and was used by just about every major sport but about 20 years ago they stopped taking on new customers but they continued with existing customers, I’ve still got mine, I first took it out in 1994 and still have it today, I can remember the reps coming round to the meetings trying to sell the policy’s, I’m sure there are company’s that specialise in sports injury but not sure what the benifits are like especially with speedway being a high risk for injury but I remember the insurance provided by the SCB being really poor in comparison to the CICA, something else which I always thought was the Ben fund was just for serious injury not your average leg or arm break, for all the injuries i had I never claimed off the Ben fund because I didn’t know you could, I was alway suspicious of a certain rider who always seem to get a back injury in the last couple of meetings of the season, a nothing crash but enough to get him on the insurance pay roll if you know what I mean, I did hear that the CICA were investigating but never heard any comeback -
Neither of those points are true, air fences have a use by date and bikes are no faster than 40 years ago
