What will 2026 UK speedway bring?
THE DEAN MACHINE replied to Lionsman66's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
No there doesn’t have to be a top league, fans want variety, something different, the arrogance of the top 5 teams says there needs to be a top league and it could be argued that arrogance is the reason the sport is in such a mess that it finds itself in -

Speedway has a lot of “if only’s” floating around at the moment and if only those “if onlys”would materialise things would look a little different -

After a few chats over the last few days I really hope now that the premier league fails and all 5 teams and Peterborough if they run have no choice but to join the championship and as much as they will kick and scream maybe after a year of it they will think well actually it’s pretty good and a bit more sustainable than the premier league, it’s been mentioned before on here but a betting deal could be the premier’s saviour -
But my point was this was at the home of jaguar and Aston Martin so you never know, I did have one guy come to my stand today saying he worked at the venue and was a historian and even brought 2 books off me saying they would help with his work, they were the history of Hackney speedway and speedway in London ? Yes it’s one man but unless your out there in the space they won’t come to you, I wouldn’t bank on any big company being asked, speedway is so cocooned in it’s own little world it doesn’t talk to anyone, a couple of the sellers will be at Lincoln auto jumble tomorrow, again getting speedway out there in the public space

I was only thinking today while it was waiting to open, it’s not only the British motor museum but it’s also home to jaguar and Aston Martin, what if they the management of those company’s were there today and popped over for a look and feel they could maybe help out speedway or even 1 of the teams ? You never know, the build it and they will come doesn’t work anymore, the mountain doesn’t come to you, you have to go to the mountain, I had some good chats today with some big folks within the sport, I put some ideas to them and they told me some ideas too, not saying mine or theirs are the right way but at least we are out there trying, like I say you never know but if you don’t try you can gaurentee you will get nothing

I believe Bradford is too expensive and from what the stock car people are saying the rugby people(who have a short memory )could be kicking them out and who knows what’s going on at Eastbourne, I personally think it’s a family dispute but whatever the reason they don’t want speedway back -

There a few tracks which could be put back into life but the stadium owners just don’t want it, Newcastle included, my feeling from what I understand is it’s Peterborough or if that not possible then it’s a team from the championship and maybe mildenhall will take up that spot in the championship -

Maybe they could but without the others Chris Louis is as unsuccessful as the rest, we need to flourish as a sport not one or two, I was in Manchester at the weekend for a gig and in the town center there is a sports memorabilia shop and they had everything from football to F1, bet you can’t guess what they didn't have ? -
British speedway currently isn’t even preaching to the converted, it’s preaching to nobody at all, last month I went to the Stafford motorcycle show, thousands of motorbike fans over 2 days, there was one Indian guy selling curtains and another selling mobile phones, now it’s about £350 for a stall there, did they sell a curtain or a mobile phone case ? Probably not but they are out there trying and it was just 2 stalls out of place but it was 2 more stalls than the whole of speedway had, we and I mean collectively and that includes every club have got to push our sport at every opportunity and every event possible, even if it’s preaching to the converted or even outside of our comfort zone, this is not a brag but with the different shows I’ve done I’ve done more to promote speedway than British speedway itself

It’s not about the bspl and clubs because the bspl and clubs don’t support it and it’s not cause the organisers havent tried to get them, some riders even wanted travel expenses to attend, I was quite surprised today while setting up just now may folk attend the motor museum,,maybe tomorrow some will venture in to the speedway show, maybe they won’t but if you don’t try they definitely won’t
