  1. It was your last point that I was alluding to. A past “in the know” poster, fortunately now headed off elsewhere, made much of how the Newcastle promotion were hard done by, having to buy the old company otherwise they wouldn’t have had a vote (untrue of course) and so on, so was just trying to correct some of the nonsense previously spread.
  2. Why wouldn’t they be allowed to? Oxford must have one if the can sign Cameron Heeps.
  3. Solid choice of rider. Give him decent equipment and he’s just what’s needed PS lisa-collette: you can’t use your joke now
  4. I thought the team a rider rode for the previous season had first call, regardless of whose retained list he’s on, and no one else could speak to him without his previous season’s club’s say so?
  5. I think you’re getting confused. Lisa-Collette was talking about Lawson not being announced. Basso has been announced by Glasgow and has done the video
  6. I’m not sure anyone has said Lawson was poached at all. Plymouth said he’d decided to concentrate on the Premiership. Somewhat similar perhaps to Adam Ellis telling Poole last year he wouldn’t be available for the Championship after all? And Plymouth haven’t really lost out as Hans is perhaps the better rider. By the way, on whose retained list does Hans appear?
  7. Which is perhaps why the Poole press release was criticising Basso but hasn’t mentioned Glasgow?
  8. So, if the rumours that Poole have signed him, I wonder what their press release about it will say?
  9. Just out of curiosity, who holds Richard Lawson’s registration?
  10. The voice of reason from the east. Thank goodness the Monarchs have you to balance Blobby’s observations
  11. Perhaps my comment was made a little tongue in cheek?! I know many have the r/r switches written out long before the meeting starts.
  12. Was THJ the same rider that Glasgow supporters called RR?
  13. A cunning plan! And full of potential variations that would mean the team managers would have to think well ahead, including putting the r/r rider at number 2. Some would cope better than others with that one
  14. I think it’s only protected against using a tactical substitute. The team manager could swap reserves or even replace the team’s number 2 with the number 6.
  15. Others were being critical of JC getting a “reduction”. My point was even his assessed averages were too high.
  16. And…..he dropped below his assessed average in both leagues
  17. I’ve lost track, now. Other than Ryan Douglas Leon Flint, has any others of the Wolves 1-7 been announced yet? And why is no one mentioning Norick Blodorn who was invited over to ride at the two CVS tracks (as well as BV)? 2022 has to be the year that Ryan Douglas moves up a gear. Although no longer a young man in speedway terms, he really started to show heat leader form towards the end of this year. I think it could be a fight between him and Luke Becker for the. number one spot with Sam Masters and Nick Morris being left in their wake. If the top four are Masters, Morris, Douglas and Becker, that looks pretty strong and I reckon still leaves around 9.6 points for places 5 and 6, more if they can find a couple of Brits. If Stevie comes in as the 5th averaged rider then that top 5 just about matches Sheffield’s who many seem to think are the bolt-on league winners. To me, although British speedway is undoubtedly running at a lower level than Poland the teams being announced should still deliver some exciting meetings. All BSPL needs to do now is to promote them to a wider audience……well, I can dream, can’t I?
  18. There are many achievements that Scots can claim like Baird and TV, Bell and the telephone, Macadam and Tarmac and Fleming and penicillin. They may also be adept at peeling fruit in confined spaces, but their ability to hone the skills of inexperienced speedway riders should never be taken for granted, let along claimed by an Aussie to be something that happened in England
  19. Great quote from Lemo on the press release about Max of “This is a man who cut his professional teeth with Belle Vue” Did Edinburgh not pay him for his first two years in UK?
  20. There’s been a few times that Sheffield have looked like league winners only to end up as also rans and, unless they’ve sorted the track, 2022 might be another one. And I agree that Cook and Neilsen could be the weak links. That then contrasts with KL who have looked poor and looks haven’t deceived. Wolves will be solid, they always are. Belle Vue are the perpetual bridesmaids, good but not good enough, which leaves Peterborough and Ipswich. Peterborough have the advantage of a great motivational manager which probably edges Ipswich having Doyle. So…….my guess for league positions: 1. Peterborough 2. Ipswich 3. Wolverhampton 4. Sheffield 5. Belle Vue 6. Kings Lynn If it’s still top four for the play offs, then expect a Peterborough vs Wolverhampton final, with Wolves ultimate winners But then, what do I know? I think I predicted Wolves vs Sheffield for this year’s final
  21. Peterborough same as last year except Basso for Pedersen. Number 8 probably Tony Atkin to tie in with the Dad’s Army theme
  22. The bond is round about £10-12k. Teams then have to have a retained list with minimum values depending on the league. Something like £15k for CL and £25k for PL. If they don’t have that, then they need to lodge additional cash to top up the values. All very antiquated - retained lists need to be abolished and replaced by a far higher bond of at least the £50k that you quote.
  23. This discussion is certainly interesting…..but I’m not sure you can reference Dickson vs Brown. Dickson resigned so needed to be replaced. Cami has only had something like three seasons as manager, Stewart took over from Ian Steel in 2004 or 2005 so inevitably has far more experience. Neither of them were able to “manage” their teams to 2021 league championships.
