  1. The current system places too much emphasis on the final. A rider can scrape through the main event with 8 points and walk away with 25. On the flip side, an engine failure in the semi could turn a 15 point main event score to exactly that - 15 points. TV will probably dictate semi's & final but a compromise would be: Final: 1st - 10pts + main event score 2nd - 8pts + main event score 3rd - 6pts + main event score 4th - 4pts + main event score Semi: 3rd - 2pts + main event score 4th - 1pt + main event score This would provide 25 points to the winner should he go through unbeaten (accept semi) as was the case with Tony at Wroclaw, and it would make every race point count. You can still see the "do enough to get through" mentality at times. It will also provide some benefit to riders making the semi, 1 or 2 points if they go out at that point. Tony's total domination this year would put him way clear in any points configuration, but I think the above provides the fairest system available with all other aspects considered. Top 5 using the above would be: Tony Rickardson 25 19 23 22 21 110 Jason Crump 17 20 16 4 13 70 Nicki Pedersen 12 17 19 6 15 69 Leigh Adams 17 14 11 7 7 56 Greg Hancock 12 6 8 6 20 52
  2. Chris, I taped the rerun on Sunday so I could make a copy for you. Let me know & I'll gladly do that for you. Dave
  3. This has already been raised/discussed elsewhere - see 'Britishgp 2006' on the SGP & SWC area
  4. If Wembley clearly didn't want speedway for the last 20 years, what makes you think its want its going to want it now???
  5. If my memory serves me correctly I believe it was John Louis who was the first Weslake rider.
  6. First meeting - taken as a birthday treat to Kings Lynn by my uncle. Must have been 1965/66. Can't remember the opposition, but I do remember Terry Betts and David Crane. 1967 world final at Wembley - Ove Fundin won his 5th crown. Remember a happy aunt - Fundin fan - and a less than happy uncle - Barry Briggs for him! First match which lead to regular attendance was at Peterborough in 1970, against Kings Lynn II. Remember Ian Turner getting 15 point maximum for KL and the Panthers winning 40-38. Turner set the track record at 69.8 which stood for a few years, but is now about 10 seconds slower than the current Flyin' Ryan record time. Recently haven't been to any matches for about 10 years until we went to Cardiff in June, and then up to the Showground last Wednesday for the Coventry match. I have to thank my daughter, Meg, for getting into speedway on her own - friend at school took her to Oxford - for bringing me back. Although I live about 20 miles from Oxford, old loyalties are still there so I guess it's the Panthers for me. Good thing as Meg is a dead kean Ryan fan.
  7. The old saying says something about you can delegate the job, but not the responsibility. Seems like Olsen & Benfield are trying to do that. Whoever laid the track, it is still their (Olsen & Benfield) responsibility and the should take the rap. From the mess a Vojens a couple of weeks ago, are we sure next week will be any better? I read a couple of days ago that they stored the track "ingredients" from last years Scandinavian GP and used that again. Was that the reason for this total screw up? Has the shale dried out to such a degree that it wasn't capable any longer of taking up water? Will we ever know or will we simply hear that "mistakes were made". After all this time now of laying one off tracks surely most of the mistakes should have been made, or are they incapable recognising them and more importantly learning from them?
