  1. So from this remark, we can assume that "redneck" hasn't got a clue whats wrong with the promotion at Stoke! ( If anything at all) You really do add lots to the debate! I bet conversations with you are intellectually riveting.
  2. I would sincerely love to see this happen. Kings Lynn back in the sports top flight and Plymouth moving up into the Premier League, as was the wishes of their promotion. But i think Plymouth will now stay in the National League in 2011 and reapply again at the end of next season.
  3. Yes you keep harking on about how you and other Stoke fans dislike the way the club is run by the current promoters. But the facts are still the same. You can't tell anyone what it is that they are specifically doing wrong, and how you would rectify the situation! It's no good making up silly little quips about e-bay and Mickey Mouse outfits! Tell us where you feel the promotion is going wrong and how, if YOU were in charge, you would deal with it?
  4. Right, lets put it another way for you. What makes someone who travels up and down the country in there own free time to watch speedway a quote ANORAK or a WEIRDO? Come on, enlighten everyone! And if you had any brains, you will clearly see that i'm not being quote "high and mighty' regarding my posts on Stoke Speedway. I'm just merely stateing my opinion, of which i'm entitled to. Thats the whole point of the forum. And just because one put's far more into Stoke Speedway than someone else doesn't make there opinion the right one!
  5. If a debate regarding the future of your local speedway track bores you. Then theirs not much hope for the likes of you! What happened to people with a bit of intellect who could hold there own in a debate? Or people with a bit of backbone, who stood up for what they perceived as being right or wrong?
  6. Redneck, If you've got a gripe about the promotion at Stoke, then thats fair enough! Tell people, what your gripe is, what you think the promotion are doing wrong, and most importantly what you feel they should do to address the problem! I personally don't see how someone can rip into the promotion at Stoke or anywhere else for that matter, about whats going wrong there, without having an alternative solution and the methodin place to implement the said solution. The whole point of an internet forum is to air your views and let other people know what your thinking! If i got out more, id never be in But it beats talking to the wife! Just because two people have contrasting views does not make them enemies! People who live outside of the boundarys of the city of Stoke have a right to a viewpoint regarding the future of it's local speedway track. On i much lighter note, What's your problem with Everton fans?
  7. Right first of all. Like i stated in a reply to another poster, I first attended Stoke Speedway at Sun Street in the 1960's, and have attended at Loomer Road since they were called Chesterton in around 1973. My wife and i attend around ten or twelve meetings a season at Stoke. Now i am aware that this is by no means anything like what your commitment has been over the years to Stoke. But i was not questioning what your commitment has been to stoke, but more so your commitment to Stoke while they are dropping down to NL. Secondly, Your response was a little immature in that you have a pop at other speedway fans who travel from afar, calling them anoraks and now weirdos! while you state that, You yourself will travel to Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Buxton in the future to get your FIX. So are you telling everyone on here that when this happen's, YOU will be a quote ANORAK & A WEIRDO ? On the football quote, Your right, it's none of my business. But if you can find anywhere in my posts that states otherwise, then your a good un! Yes i am concerned about (this Stoke thread) as i am about the future of speedway at Loomer Road! I've seen some good riders come through from that track, Steve Bastable, Les Collins and Paul Thorp to name but three, and i've had lots of great memories and met some wonderful people down there. So as i say "yes i am concerned". I will not engage in a discussion by PM as i feel this is an open thread and all views should be there for everyone to see!
  8. For your infomation I first attended Stoke speedway at Sun St in the 1960's when they were based in hanley. and have been to Loomer road at least 10-12 times a season since the early seventies (1973 if i recall) when the team was called Chesterton. P.S. What Everton have got to do with the argument is anybodys guess It usually is the reaction of an uneducated, unintelligent, juvenile. They come up with childish statements like the one highlighted! As i said in one of my previous posts. If you can't think of a better alternative than dropping into the NL to save money, then don't bother getting involved in the debate.
  9. GENUINE STOKE FANS!!! If either of you were genuine, than you would both be at Loomer Road next season to follow your local team! But it seems that one of you isn't that genuine.
  10. And this one! What a pathetic and immature response. Just when Stoke Speedway need him/her the most. And they have the nerve to call themselves supporters.
  11. The silence is deafening, Stooge!
  12. Where in my post do i state that "you must turn up every week"? First of all you slate the Stoke promotion for taking the club into the National League, throwing your toys out of the pram, stating that you are fed up with all the 3 and 4 year plans that do not come to fruition. Then you state that your not that bothered! Make your mind up, son. Usually if someone is bothered about something, they get off their backside and do something about it!... But from the tone of your post, you won't be doing that. Usually if someone isn't bothered about something, then they don't go around telling "all and sundry" what they think about it! So are you or are you not bothered? And as for the quote you'd go and get your fix at BUXTON!!!!!!! Their in the same division as Stoke! the very same one that you won't watch in your own back yard!
  13. I urge you, "big lad", Give it a go, after half a dozen meetings the entertainment levels will be just as good as in the Premier League! I follow the sport right through from the GP's, Elite League, Premier League and national League. And IMHO although the standard of riding is clearly better the further up the scale you go, the standard of entertainment isn't. Please don't give up on your team. This is the time when they need you more than ever before!
  14. Top post, Halifaxtiger, I'm sick to the back teeth of all these so called quote "huge supporters" coming on this forum and spouting utter rubbish about their teams promoter not spending enough money on the stadium and/or the team! Open your eyes, theirs a bloody recession going on out there! Promoters like Dave Tattum haven't got bottomless pits of money you know. The cost of the day to day running of the stadium will of risen ten fold over the last five years, and thats before you spend any money upgrading it. Riders points money will have risen over the last few years. And all this is going on in a sport that is very poorly supported and has been for the last 25 years! So all you who keep bleating on about what little, Dave Tattum has done for Stoke, put your hands in YOUR pockets and you pay Dave Tattum his losses every week! It's my bet that if you all club together you wouldn't be able to pay for the running of the electricity for just one meeting! And as for some of the quotes iv'e read over the last 24 hours off people who say they will not go and watch Stoke in the National League, then thats your choice. But when the door to Loomer Rd does finally close for good, don't go pointing the finger at anyone else but your sorry selves I first followed speedway as a small boy in the 1950's at Liverpool and when that track closed we went by train to Manchester to watch Belle Vue. And then when i was old enough and could afford my first car i traveled all over the county to watch this great sport. So if some of you can't stomach the prospect of seeing your team in the NL then i suggest you do the same. And those of you who can't stomach your promoter taking you into that division, then either put up or shut up! Rant Over

  18. I could be wrong, but wasn't Bernie Leigh Readings skipper when they won the title in 1980? Got to agree with Chris Morton as Britains best of the eighties, if only for his constant performances throughout the decade!
  19. Just got home from the meeting today. Excellent meeting, races run pretty quick(for obvious reasons) good close racing, a bit more dirt on the track than last week, and a good crowd there to see Buxton be crowned champions. So congratulations Buxton on a well earned victory.
  20. I saw Steve Lawson ride FOR Cradley Heath in the 1980 KO Cup final at Belle Vue. The boy scored 1 point and he looked a little out of his depth from memory. I personally am struggling to pick 10 top brits from the 80's if i'm honest! The standard of rider we were producing at the time was very poor compared to the 1970's ( Carter, Wigg, Morton, Les & Peter Collins excluded) But i would not stoop to the depths of the second tier of british speedway just to try and fill my list up let alone put a rider high up the list who spent all his career pottering about for easy pickings in the second division. The new national league was set up to help young british riders start their competitive apprenticeship and then move up to the british league to further their careers. IMO the likes of Steve Lawson milked the fact that he was scoring points at that level and had no ambition to take the step up to mix it week in week out with the big boys! Thats some role model, someone who stays an apprentice all his career!
  21. I never said anything about watching Jason Garrity being 'tedious' but you have got to admit once the first bend of the first lap was done then the race was effectively over! For what it's worth Jason Garritys performance at Monmore Green in the first leg of the play off semi-final was much better than yesterday has he had to show some trackcraft in passing the Dudley riders in some of his races. Sverre Harrfeldt, Peter Collins and Soren Sjosten where three of the most exciting young riders i ever saw ride! but to see them the best part of half a lap in front of the nearest rider was never much fun. The same can be said for Garrity or anyother rider, much better to see them compete in a close race than to see them 'screw it on' half a lap in front!
  22. First visit to Buxton, today. Wonderful location and easier to find than i had imagined! Found the racing a bit tedious with the lack of passing or even close racing. I feel the track could do with some more dirt on it as it looked like concrete on the third bend where i was stood! Does anyone know why the track wasn't graded all afternoon? Overall a poor meeting that could of been better had the track had some more shale on it and had it been graded every 4 heats.
  23. Agreed. Which is what i have posted earlier.
  24. Sorry i forgot about Sam The point i was trying to make was. That it is not Bruce Penhalls job to ensure good riders keep coming through from America, nor is it his fault they now don't! And anyone who thinks that Americas lack of speedway stars is down to the fact that BP quit in 1982 must be barking mad!
  25. Anyway notice how the sport in the USA went to rubbish after he quit the game. No new blood for many years and actually the country has never recovered. Yeah well done Bruce your a legend! Is that so!!! Bruce Penhall quite the sport in 1982 and since that year the USA have given this great sport two fine riders in Greg Hancock and Billy Hamill, both WORLD CHAMPIONS. Its like blaming Michael Lee or Kenny Carter for the fact that England have only had two world champions since the very same date! See how stupid that statement sounds
