Scunthorpe Scorpions 2018
bullet replied to IronScorpion's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
There are a few riders who could fill the role but it would definitely be a steep learning curve for them and as pointed out would leave us vunerable with injuries. Rob Shuttleworth Ryan Burton (nearly back from injury) Both of these have guested/ridden a lot around the EWR Luke harris Loe lawlor Tom Brennan These 3 have not had the Championship experience but again have ridden lots around the EWR and should at least progress well at home Does anyone know if Marc Owen is fit again and intends to ride or has he called it quits??? My favourite pick would be Jack Thomas who has ridden a few times around here but travelling might be too much as i believe he is local to the kent area. One wild card i would through out there as well though is Tom Young! he was on the verge of the scorpions a few years ago but then stopped racing, however he is looking to get back and has had a couple of outings but would depend if he could get the gear together and commit the time. -
Yep one of my Photos!! Been a while since i had a front cover. We could do with a good season this year to hopefully get some more. I think we have a good chance this year, all we need is a bit of luck with injuries and to get everyone firing straight away. I love how everyone says we will be poor but the same team was riding well and winning against teams that now have a lot lower average. A lot of teams seem to be hoping the 2pt riders will be a lot higher or that the heavy top end always perform. I also think we will have a 3 way battle at the top of the team for the number 1 spot with lewis and ryan pushing Josh hard with MPT then hot on their heels. And at the bottom end i think young Josh will be better after his learning last season and again we should always have one of the best reserves in the league alongside him. Biggest factor i can see will be how many riders will be changing over to Gerhard engines and how long it will take to get used to the way they ride. We know the engines are just as competitive as a GM but setups seem to be a dark art times getting everything matched up (especially when we are away from home!)

haha good old twitter clues!!! only one getting the camera out will be me!!!! If they follow how they usually do they are being done on purpose to suit the fact that people are saying it is josh bailey. Josh does not fit the original statement that rob said that the rider goes well/fast around the EWR His record is 2pts from 5 heats vs stags in KOC in 2014 and 8pts from 4 hts later that year in the league -

I believe a couple of meetings doesnt count it is riders who had a actual PL team place before as i think nearly every rider has had a meeting before as a NL guest!!! -

Can guarantee it wont be who is being put here as when the club give heeps of clues they are always a misdirect!!!! I would assume it will be either Wilko or Josh this week leaving ryan for a few weeks till after he is back on a bike which i believe is very soon. Might have to name the 3pt rider soon as not many left to be filled as per the other thread looks like not many left now Possibles and reasons for or against with what info we have been given Ellis Perks - No as already ridden PL Oliver greenwood - No as already ridden PL and rides Buxton on a sunday Dan Greenwood - Thought a Possible but realised he rode for rye so another no Luke Crang - Again a No as already ridden PL Benji - Definitely a no as has ridden for us in PL! James Shanes - Possible and a good improving rider but likely to be plymouth and not over experienced on our track Zak Wajk - Would love it to be him but more likely a big team will have him but he did ride our track quite a bit growing up. Ben Hopwood - I believe he has had a couple of PL stints so again another no Marc Owen - Had lots of potential as a young lad and rode our track lots so could be a possible Dan Spiller - Only ridden our track a few times but races in germany at weekends so not likely Dan Halsey - Ridden spells with Rye so another no Tom Stokes - Possible but i would never say he really rode our track that well and it was a few years ago Ryan Blacklock - Possible but definitely struggles on our track especially when wet so unlikely A.N. Other??? -
Is Rye house`s not Ben morley? That would leave 5 riders left to be added with what i would think a list of main 7 contenders are Oliver Greenwood - Somerset?/Edinburgh Dan Greenwood Zak Wajk Luke Crang? Ellis Perks - Somerset/Edinburgh/newcastle James Shanes - Plymouth? Dan Spiller? Also several other possibly of Ryan Blacklock, Tom Stokes, Danny Halsey?, Marc Owen, Ben Hopwood, Benji Compton?? who i would assume become the reserve list to cover injuries ***I see Alan replied with Ben as i was typing!!***

Well thats one from my list signed. Now to try and work out the 3pt reserve. Rob has said they have not ridden PL before so my list of potentials look like Wajenekt, Blacklock,Ritchings?,BWD?(average), Owen, Spiller, Shanes, Ayres, Payne. Some of those might have made a 1 off PL appearance and several of those i think could do well but will be a lot of other clubs chasing them. My outside guess is either Ayres or owen as both know our track well which was another part of the clue. -

Time for my initial guess Josh 8.0 Zdenek 7pt (Ass) Ryan 6.68 (Assuming he keeps that and depending if it was a 2 yr visa etc...) Alex 6.26 Wilko 5.33 (Number 6 so lowest average in top 6) 3Pt national league rider That leaves 6.03 which to keep wilko at reserve only gives a list roughly of Lanham, MPT, Heeps, Manzaris, Kozza, Klindt, Bellego Wouldn't mind most of those but MPT or Klindt would be my preferred. As for the 3pt rider no idea really we could do with a full list of those eligible so we can start to guess at who they might be. (does clegg count and now become a 3pt instead of 3.4 as it states eligible for NL which he is) -

is Lewy still on his vendetta against scunny and everyone ignoring the fact that the assesed Number 1 sub section is relating to 28 day facility not an individual meeting. Assesed or not if they have a legitimate reason for not being there like a FIM meeting then they get the facility as per the first part The whole purpose of the sub section rule is to stop a club bringing in an assessed rider discovering he is rubbish so claiming he is injured and getting guests in at number 1 who are better than them If that was not the rule then scunny would have lined up totally different with R/R at 1 and Nicolai as a guest for Ryan!! -

Not these old chestnuts again!! Ryan finished top 4 in a state championship just before he got injured last winter! If you read the rules properly and the sub.sectioning you are allowed a guest for whatever is listed for the rider in section 1. The assessed number 1 (or rider who has not managed a meeting yet) is for a 28 day facility. As this was due to fim u21 world team it was fine if he was out injured then it wouldn't be -
I bet rob will be stood with a spanner in his hand practising all week in the mirror on how to pronounce his name !!
-
It is but only 5 home and 3 away left

Scunny have 5 home and 4 away left Home Newcastle Redcar Berwick Sheffield Plymouth Away Ipswich Sheffield Plymouth Peterborough -
This was before he tried to guest and be told he will have a 7pt Ass average next year though which has probably changed his thinking
-
would using guests instead be any better?? at least it would be a regular rider fans can at least get behind. Looking at new green sheets we have a team total of 40.82 and Josh is now 8.00 and Ben 4.82 so lookslike upto 14.5 for 2 riders. Rob could always go out on a bang and use a 3pt rider and someone upto 11.5!! not that there is any of them but would allow virtually anyone to be signed!! Or in reality BWD on a 5pt would still leave 9.5 so again anyone really but as suggested possibly a raw foreign recruit with a possible eye on next season if we go ahead but again not that there are many of those out there

If he is a 5 this year then would be good for him if someone like scunny bring him in forthe rest of the season as at 5 he should be ok doubling up and not have to leave eastbourne (if he was a 7 in PL that would stop him riding NL as above the average of 6) This would allow him to gain a real average to use for next season. Then it would just be the issue of what visa and whether they decide riders get to keep their average as long as they meet other criteria (national/state position). would benifit scunny as we need 2 riders currently and would at least solve one guest and currently ben will be 4.82 and team total is 40.82 so no problems there but he would be in the main body as alex davies is now 4.97 Waiting till next year and having to have a 7 would stop most PL clubs signing him. Most are reluctant to use a NL rider coming up on a 3pt!!
