  1. Well Ford hasn't seen any of my cash since the fateful winter of discontent & I used to visit quite often prior to that. I doubt that I'm the only one that has given him the cold shoulder either .
  2. If only we had realised at the time, the amount of conniving & underhandedness the result of that final would cause .The shenanigans that followed had a huge impact on British Speedway, & not for the better I might add.

  9. Ah, so that's the reason. I thought the standard of this topic had improved recently, but i hadn't worked out why.
  10. That's as maybe, but without the necessary skills to do the job he will fail. I saw plenty of Havvy during his spell at Coventry & concluded he wasn't cut out for the job , I'm pretty sure I wasn't the only person to think that either.
  11. Tough as nails was Ron. I remember seeing him racing with a plaster cast on his lower leg , didn't slow him down though. I had a few dealings with him after he retired, via his garage business, and always found him a great guy to chat with. When the ESO engine hit the UK in the mid 60's Ron was always keen to tell everyone how many more races he could get out of the engine before any servicing was required in comparison to the old JAP motors.

  13. From the riders point of view I would say the fact that the ESO/Jawa unit was so much more reliable and would do many more races between services. From a fans point of view, they could be pretty certain that when the riders came out of the pits to start a race that all 4 would reach the startline.

  15. I wouldn't be surprised by that either. The problem is that the developers have been getting away with stuff like that for so long they appear to take it for granted.
  16. This is what always seems tro happen. They get their plans through by agreeing certain conditions , get their building done, and forget the bit that doesn't make them any cash. Swindon Speedway Stadium seems to be a perfect example of this situation.
  17. Hoping for the best. For too long now developers have been " railroading through" their plans using very dubious tactics & it would make a very pleasant change to see them fail in this particular case.
  18. I see Matt is advertising on the club website for a "qualified plumbing & heating engineer" to do some work at his French Chateau project . I do hope that whoever takes on the job understands that there will be a requirement to include an instantaneous "kill switch" for the hot water supply to each bathroom in case of any unexpected emergencies.
  19. Fingers crossed , it's good to see the council standing up to the property developers dodgy tactics.
  20. Well if that isn't the case ,then will you tell us all why Mick Horton didn't complete the deal to take over the stadium lease after he stated on more than one occasion that he had an agreement to do so?
