  1. It's difficult though because we have got exactly what we wanted, less waste of space expensive foreigners and more young Brits, trouble is the young Brits arnt good enough yet. Personally I prefer the young Brits but what Dandelion says is right, inexperience can cause serious situations on track. Dilemma
  2. SCB is spot on with this, my wife went to her first meeting on Thursday at the iow , she has no idea and doesn't care in the slightest about the rules. She enjoyed the racing but couldn't understand the messing about and 2 and half hours to run 15 70 secs races. Tbf to the iow Martins replied that things arnt usually like that and listening to their fans it looked a one off but we all know that in general this is the norm at speedway. Hope to get her to go again but she said herself, a first timer would never return. My youngest came to Stoke with me a few years ago, enjoyed the racing but not the messing about. Result of that, he's not been to a meeting since even though he enjoyed the actual racing
  3. Agreed, thanks for replying Martin I'm sure you can appreciate fans who only attend when on holiday are going to get the impression that's how it usually is. I've shown my wife your reply so hopefully il get her to another meeting especially if we holiday on the island again
  4. Must admit I got the impression from here that the iow usually run a meeting quickly and professional, I must have been unlucky tonight. Shame it was my wife's first meeting its took me years to get her to go to one, it might be years before it happens again. The other thing that get her was the delay to heat 15 with naming the nominated riders but to be honest most tracks seem to have that delay as well. Again iow fans and promotion sorry for the moan but I can only comment on what happened, I don't normally do moaning
  5. Just got back from this meeting and hate to moan because I thought the iow promotion were one of the best ones but 2 and half hours to run a meetings not good. My wife's first ever meeting and she kept saying whys there so much messing about. Why don't they get on with the next race quicker. She accepted there were a few falls early on and a couple of tape infringements but an hour and half to run 12 races then have a break of half hour just resulted in her saying I'm getting bored now even though I've enjoyed the racing. After 2 hours heat 13 got under way and the inevitable happened, a nasty fall for Benji Compton resulting in an understandable delay. All the best to Benji. Decent racing and a cracking heat 13 rerun and heat 15 but my wife said at the end the old speedway chestnut. "Anyone coming for there first meeting tonight wouldn't come back because of the messing around and not getting on with it". I think I heard it said Barry Bishop wasn't there which might have stretched the staff a bit, everyone seemed genuine in putting on a good meeting but it just went on a bit. Sorry to moan iow but getting the truth from a first timer I feel is important. On the plus side though good track, smart stadium, enthusiastic staff and fans and a decent turn out with plenty of kids and youngsters. Maybe the meeting dragging on was a one off, sorry to sound negative, honest
  6. YEEEEES, Jerry is back Jerry is back, well nearly. I'm getting as daft as you Dandelion. Lol
  7. I suppose they have to wait 7 days because someone has to work them out using a pencil and paper and then post them out to the clubs. 2nd class as well to save money
  8. Not sure if il be Billy no mates or have the wife with me, shes never been to a meeting and Britains got talents on so will have to see. Il keep a look out for you though
  9. Must admit I did too, maybe it's cuz the kangaroos disappeared. Bring back the kangeroo Dandelion you know it makes sense
  10. That's the trouble though one year there's wild cards the next there isn't, like a lot of rules in speedway why do they keep changing things then back again. Does my head in. The points gained for a win and close defeat must have changed half a dozen times in the past ten years. Il say it again. Bonkers
  11. Would just covering the bends and a short bit of the straights work? If the bends are dry it would be a lot less work to get the straights sorted
  12. I just don't get why he wants to ride in it, what's he going to get out of it except moans from Brits if he does do well or even wins it. Seems no point to me even if he got to Cardiff. It's not as if he's starting out in his career and riding could help his career move forward
  13. Just watched the GP and was expecting a bore fest after some comments on here, not the best ever but by no means a rubbish one. A fair few decent races and incidents. Maybe I'm easily pleased
  14. Hope it's on, weather not brilliant on the island today but clearing up now. If it is on il only have Berwick, Newcastle and Redcar to do. Fingers crossed
  15. Il admit I've had a couple of pints here on the sunny iow but this thread seems to have slipped into another reality
  16. I must have dreamt it but I thought Nathan had left
  17. Thanks for the reply Jayne and the rest of you, it's a difficult one. A couple of seasons ago I thought I'd had enough of NL racing with no sign of us getting a track or going up but I've accepted it's best to have a team to support than no team at all but the league is set up wrong. I've no answers but something needs sorting Just to add in reply to Jayne, after our last meeting I thought I might not return to Buxton purely because the difference in team strengths I was thinking will it be worth it. Thanks to your honest response I will be there every time we ride there, hard work and principles deserves support
  18. Serious question Jayne do you think the NL would be better without us and brum and the like. At our last meeting with you it looked to me like the crowd was about 90/10 in Heathen fans. Prob an exaggeration . Surely you need that money though to balance the books. I wish the likes of us Brum etc were in the CL but it seems these teams can't afford it. Hope you reply
  19. No real thoughts on the rights and wrongs of this but as an outsider having Bomber riding will get me to Peterborough for the first time in a while, no doubt he will entice a few locals back as well
  20. Gutted to be missing this but hopefully il see iow v Plymouth on the Thursday. Everytime I'm away this year I miss some good meetings
  21. Kids off school Steve, it's because it's a double header with the Heathens meeting following. I'm on the IOW so will miss it but hopefully tick off another track on the island
