Isle Of Wight V Birmingham Tues 13th June
bruno replied to Brummies_Ste's topic in National League Speedway
I'm proberly out of order but Barry's said he couldn't agree terms with Govier and his representative, shouldn't riders at this level be happy to get a ride and learn there trade. I suppose at the end of the day it's got to be worth it from a financial point of view for the riders but NL level should be about the bigger picture I'd have thought. Maybe he became World Champion and I missed it. I might be out of order and get shot down for this comment, we shall see -
Not really sure why because of the guest situation but we're coming down for this later so I've got an important question. Have the fish and chips improved?

I remember a meeting back in the mid 70s when Soren had a fisticuffs with Cribby, any Heathens remember that. As a teenager I thought it was terrific entertainment. I'm sure the meeting was a draw and they both came out after best of buddies

Not sure when we will back to the island but will definitely return and I will definitely get in touch, it's obvious from everyone's comments that the 2 and half hours was a one off and it's great to have had responses from the club. It's not hard for clubs to reply these days and it's a shame that so few do. My slight disappointment of the meeting taking so long has long disappeared and I look forward to returning one day. My wife's also really impressed with the responses back from the club. Well done the iow you deserve success and big crowds, great attitude towards fans and great that you listen

Tbh Sidney I do have spells when I wonder why I still follow it but then I see some great racing somewhere and I realise why I love it. After 40 odd years (not continuous ) I still can't believe how the riders do it. Also, I rarely see my brother November-February so that as proberly got something to do with while I still go. Gets me out the house as well!!!

Thing is though back in the day Cook would have been classed as a character which we desperately need ,but now if he does anything like this he's called a k@ob. What do we want characters or robots
-
I think an hours pushing it but unless there's severe delays one hour thirty/fourty should be the max
-
Apologies if the 30 years is over the top but as an example I used to be a big football fan , a season ticket holder for about 12 years but have lost interest and I would never spend time discussing something on a forum I no longer watch. To contradict myself though us speedway fans are a different breed so when we lose a team like TWK has done it's hard to follow a different team but still love the sport because it's "in the blood"but then the barmy rules force you out of attending anyway
-
Iove reading that some of you saw the greats from pre 70s era, what I don't get is why you still post on a speedway forum but have never seen a meeting in well over 30 years and more. Strange to me tbh. I think Sidney as seen some riders from way back but still attends meetings so when he comments I get where he's coming from

Don't get me wrong Dandelion I've no problem with foreigners who are good enough but it just makes sense from a cost angle to invest in Brits like the Poles do with there youngsters. However totally agree with you that it can be a dangerous precedent using kids who are not ready. From a confidence angle and a safety angle. Btw never used the quote "dirty" foreigners, not in my vocabulary
-
It's difficult though because we have got exactly what we wanted, less waste of space expensive foreigners and more young Brits, trouble is the young Brits arnt good enough yet. Personally I prefer the young Brits but what Dandelion says is right, inexperience can cause serious situations on track. Dilemma

SCB is spot on with this, my wife went to her first meeting on Thursday at the iow , she has no idea and doesn't care in the slightest about the rules. She enjoyed the racing but couldn't understand the messing about and 2 and half hours to run 15 70 secs races. Tbf to the iow Martins replied that things arnt usually like that and listening to their fans it looked a one off but we all know that in general this is the norm at speedway. Hope to get her to go again but she said herself, a first timer would never return. My youngest came to Stoke with me a few years ago, enjoyed the racing but not the messing about. Result of that, he's not been to a meeting since even though he enjoyed the actual racing

Welcome back Jerry

Must admit I got the impression from here that the iow usually run a meeting quickly and professional, I must have been unlucky tonight. Shame it was my wife's first meeting its took me years to get her to go to one, it might be years before it happens again. The other thing that get her was the delay to heat 15 with naming the nominated riders but to be honest most tracks seem to have that delay as well. Again iow fans and promotion sorry for the moan but I can only comment on what happened, I don't normally do moaning
-
Just got back from this meeting and hate to moan because I thought the iow promotion were one of the best ones but 2 and half hours to run a meetings not good. My wife's first ever meeting and she kept saying whys there so much messing about. Why don't they get on with the next race quicker. She accepted there were a few falls early on and a couple of tape infringements but an hour and half to run 12 races then have a break of half hour just resulted in her saying I'm getting bored now even though I've enjoyed the racing. After 2 hours heat 13 got under way and the inevitable happened, a nasty fall for Benji Compton resulting in an understandable delay. All the best to Benji. Decent racing and a cracking heat 13 rerun and heat 15 but my wife said at the end the old speedway chestnut. "Anyone coming for there first meeting tonight wouldn't come back because of the messing around and not getting on with it". I think I heard it said Barry Bishop wasn't there which might have stretched the staff a bit, everyone seemed genuine in putting on a good meeting but it just went on a bit. Sorry to moan iow but getting the truth from a first timer I feel is important. On the plus side though good track, smart stadium, enthusiastic staff and fans and a decent turn out with plenty of kids and youngsters. Maybe the meeting dragging on was a one off, sorry to sound negative, honest

I suppose they have to wait 7 days because someone has to work them out using a pencil and paper and then post them out to the clubs. 2nd class as well to save money

Swindon V Somerset Bank Holiday Monday At 5.00
bruno replied to keef robin's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Would just covering the bends and a short bit of the straights work? If the bends are dry it would be a lot less work to get the straights sorted
