Who's Still Available?
villiers210 replied to wandersome's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Already did, are you seriously telling me than a largely unknown Argentenian deserves a places in the PL over someone who has a 8 point average In the NL? If the answer is yes, then God help speedway in this country. -
Who's Still Available?
villiers210 replied to wandersome's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Nowhere did iI say give him the chance purely based on the fact hes British. He has a NL average of in excess of 8 points, beat some very big names last year, and yet there are still teams who prefer to sign foreign riders that could not hope to do any better. I would be the first to agree that they have to prove themselves and have the ability, but for you to say "......if he is that talented he won't struggle to pick up a club anywhere" does make me smile. I'm not saying he is next years world champion, just that he IS good enough to be given a ride in the PL rather than giving the opportunities to riders from overseas. -

Nice comment! I presume from your remark that you are not interested in giving accomplished British lads a fair crack of the whip then? -

Back to the original question, I wish someone would give Joe Jacobs a PL spot next year. He came on in leaps and bounds last year beating some very big names in the process. And...........he's British!!! -
hell fire! Nothing like giving the kid a change is there? Well done Buxton and good luck Tyler I say!

sorry to say it, but in that case his dad was wrong.

I simply cannot believe that there is one particular rider in the NL who has come on in massive strides in the last 12 months that is yet to be snapped up by a PL team. Attention all promoters - dont overlook Joe Jacobs.

6.30 start time on a Monday night??? I hope they get plenty of home support, cause I can't see many away fans getting there for that time.

Hahaha that press release is top drawer.

I know the riders concerned and their respective clubs obviously have the ultimate decision, but I'd sooner have JJ. Personally I think he's a far better rider.

Scunthorpe Saints - Not Entering N L 2013 :(

I really don't get your argument. Who exactly are you accusing of creaming off the riders from the "second teams" ? -

Firstly, why does my edit not wash? Secondly, why and when did the crowds stop attending in their abundance? In answer to your question, I have been watching NL racing for 3 years, nowhere near as long as I have supported speedway in general I grant you, but one thing I do know, NL crowds were not attending in abundance 3 years ago, -

Rather, the misconception that the NL is a training league shows your incapacity to accept change. Like has been said before, who is going to pay £10-£12 of their hard earned cash to watch riders training? I'm sure there would be a few, but not enough to sustain a league. The fact that it is completely a training league is your perception and you are entitled to it. I happen to see it differently, and I make no apology that my view differs to yours. The fact that you see your view as gospel shows that it is you who displays the arrogance here. -

i would agree - but only when they are ready. And I know I see the NL differently to some people, but I don't see it as a training league. Things have moved on. The training league is the amateur leagues. I am as proud as anyone when riders from the NL like Craig Cook, Richie etc. progress enough to be ble to move up o PL full time. But, at the same time, how many riders like Lee Smart have been lost to the sport because they fall somewhere between the 2 leagues. -

i know what you're saying June, but surely the first tier these days isn't the NL, it's the amateur league. I have always had the greatest admiration for what Scunthorpe have tried to do - anybody who doesn't is a fool. I also had a real "eye-opener" at a visit to Northside last year. What they do and how they organise it there is top drawer. The biggest problem as I see it is that British Speedway should be pouring money into these facilities to develop the skills of all young British riders, not only those just starting out. -

and I for one echo those thoughts completely. Even though we are delighted that Max has signed for us in 2013, trust me, we are depressed beyond belief that there will be no NL Scunny next year. This league cannot afford to lose ANY team. And, might I just add that regardless of the result, I really enjoyed my first visit to Scunny last year. Really hope that things get back to normal for you real soon. -

I never said that you did. I was pointing out that last year, there was countless posts relating to the fact that Adam Roynon was riding in the NL, and countless people were up in arms about it. As a result, I was wondering whose turn it was going to be next. And I couldn't disagree with you more. Whoever Tom Perry ends up riding for next year ( and its far from certain that it will be Dudley) he needs at least another year in NL to consolidate what he has achieved so far. Full time PL next year will be too early for him. -

Thanks for that. I was wondering who's turn it was going to be to receive the "he shouldnt be riding NL" now that Adam Roynon is out of the picture. -

hahaha - words fail me right now. -
really don't see it as Wednesdays at Monmore are reserved for such eventualities.
-
whether that's the case or not, what difference does it make?

I really don't get this business about not having our own track. We have our own club, we have our own fan base (there are only a handful - probably 10 or so out and out Wolves fans at Dudley matches) and we have our own team. Don't see where the problem is personally. After all is said and done, Wolves don't have their own track either - they rent it from Ladbrokes the same as we do.

Although I fear that we may be in the NL again in 2013, I have no doubt that if it were to be PL, there would be no shortage of riders wanting to be included in the Heathens team. Personal terms with management aside, I don't think that there is a club in the UK whose supporters do more in the way of sponsorship for their riders. To my mind, the time for Premier league for the Heathens is now. All of the worries and concerns that I have heard will always be there, and I just wished that people would put a little more faith in the Dudley fans who would without doubt support this and make it viable. Even if we stay NL, half of our team has to go due to the points limit, so what better time to move forward rather than operate with a watered own version of our 2012 squad? I ain't a "fair weather" supporter and whatever happens I'll be there on the terraces next year, although I'm done with meaningless matches like The Staffordshire Trophy. My fear is though that if we stay NL with a poorer standard of racing than this year,, people will start to lose interest. Oh, I forgot I would definitely include Lee Morris in any PL side of mine given the opportunity.
