  1. johnnie was a good friend of mine and we spent many hours supping pints at the foresters arms in brockenhurst where we were somtimes joined by his old team mate george wall.johnnie was born and stayed all his life in brockenhurst new forest he 1st started riding in the north african desert during the war on his return home he joined southampton but only had a couple of meetings after this he moved to plymouth and became a regular team member in 1952 he was getting good but suffered a fractured skulll a his form dipped the following year he transfered to st austell but his form never returned and he quit for many years he ran a tarmacing business sadly he died about 10 years ago his son was also tragically killed in a motorcycle accident not long after
  2. the first bluey rode for saints in the early fifties for about one season very small in stature and never rode in a british final the other one was tall and fair haired and blossomed after leaving the saints helped by a big pools win that improved his carrer immensley but both were known as bluey to to the southampton faithful

  4. ted has sold his business some time ago and lives in retirement at wellow in the new forest he is in fact of german extraction when the berlin wall came down he got completely bladdered because he couldsee his relatives again he to will be appearing at sammy millers on 20 th july
  5. sammys museum is about a mile and little bit from new milton railway station bournemouth waterloo line it is well sign posted if you are coming by car there is ample parking yours odd
  6. two riders that stood out for me and i admit a bit of poole bias here were christer lofqvist and john langfield.christer was magic on a bike almost a swedish peter craven his passing was legendary at poole a great man sadly missed .as for john langfield entertainment with a capital E orange leathers fans loved him refs hated him never a world beater but he was virtually unstoppable at sydney showground.he was worth the entrance fee just see what would get up to.away from the track mild mannered and polite he even wrote the knott family a 12 page letter expressing his regret at not being able to return to poole because his young family were of school age and he thought it better that they were settled in aussie wish we had entertainers like him today
  7. he turned up at my last one but im told these days hes has an adversion to flying ever since 9\11 but he has been sent an invite no its someone even more well known than him and its not briggo.i used to work for the rickman brother in the 1970s really nice blokes
  8. ive got the same photos and more as well little norman was at brian hanhams funneral yesterday and as livley as ever he asked to pass on his best wishes to everyone who remembers him on this site and please come and meet him on sunday july 20 th at the big speedway reunion at sammy millers museum in new milton hants where a lot of ex saints and pirates will be attending and its all FREE!!!!!!
  9. to old saint please come along to sammy millers museum on the 20 of july and meet most of the remaining saints (see saints reunion thread) and there maybe just maybe one unexpected suprise guest as well working on it at the moment
  10. brians farewell took place in brilliant sunshine today at ringwood church,people with speedway conection ex riders etc were brian crutcher norman strachan stuart wallace bill holden jim knott rosita mattingley(mauries widow) pete smith joan golden(albys widow) andy day terry lane smith and don hardys son.Neil brians son would like to thank everyone for their kind messages and cards and donations especially tim templton for supplying the bikes and andy day for supplying the race jackets r.i.p brian

CONTARY TO POPULAR BELIFE CYRIL WAS NOT THE OLDEST ROGER BROTHER HE JUST LOOKED THAT WAY HE IS STILL ALIVE AND IN KENT WHERE TWO YEARS AGO THE LATE MAURY MATTINGLEY VISITED HIM AND HE WAS STILL RUNNING A MARKET GARDEN BUSINESS I HOPING TO GET HIM DOWN FOR THE SOUTHAMPTON REUNION IN JULY(SEE OTHER THREAD) ODDY
  14. JUST A FURTHER COMMENT WHICH BLUEY SCOTT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT ?? BECAUSE THERE WERE TWO AND BOTH RODE FOR SOUTHAMPTON ONE IN THE EARLY FIFTIES AND ONE IN THE LATE FIFTIES EARLY SIXTIES

  17. alan when he can pops back to poole he had a bout of ill health a while ago but is alot better now he married a beauty queen and the first rider to appear on a tv commercial advertising cigarettes great servant for poole and to clear things up no im not the real oddfossengen wish i could of rode like him

  20. i may be wrong but i belive his father was the pre war leicester and england rider syd jackson who is buried in my local church at boldre hants he has two other sons both of whom are sucessful estate agents this story was co oberated by peter lipscombe of v.s.m when i met him.
  21. as report in another link i am trying to arrange a southampton reunion in july though the way its going virtually everyteam that ever was is going to be represented .however i digress can anyone please tell me the whereabouts of former saints cyril roger and reg luckhurst ,both were last heard of in kent cyril owning a large market garden and reg was running a pub near lydd i think however this may have all changed any help will be gratefuuly received
  22. yes george came to my last reunion in 1998 he was getting on them.he came down with hhis daughter and she said he was so keen in coming he was up and dressed by 5.a.m. sadly george passed away a couple of years ago but a great character all the same
  23. yes bluey because of his red hair its an aussie thing but his real name was jack. oddy
