Daniel Smith replied to Daniel Smith's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Things could swing either way for Speedway if it gets to start. With what's been near 12 months of restrictions the idea of open air sports may appeal, even to those that's never been before. British Speedway need to be prepared & push local area marketing. -

Can see Cook going back to Belle Vue to be honest. Him & Bewley being their top plus both Worrall's. Belle Vue the team to beat. 1. Ellis 2. Kerr 3. Jorgensen 4. Lambert 5. Proctor 6.?? -
One of the best returns I've ever witnessed was Andrew Silver. A retirement of 15-16 years & still averaged over 5 in the 2nd tier. Don't know if that gap can be beaten?? As for Lewis Bridger, as long as the average is sensible neither rider or club have anything to lose. Good luck to him

Don't get things twisted though. He's not riding the UK 'for' Swindon. He's doing it for his family. He admitted he hated all his time away. -

Good for him, the only decision he could make. -
With Manchester United though, that people fail to see with the class of 92 was that the spine of the team was very very experienced that our youth could learn from. Way to much inexperience in your 8 to progress the better youngsters

Happy birthday to Phil But bloody hell @Mimmo never start a thread like that again

Lets put this out there too. The lack of popularity in Speedway GLOBALLY is because it's (here we go) RACIST. The argument cannot be denied

PZM ruling or clause in the contract, both are a rider's choice. Contracts are not just about how much money you'll get etc. These contracts are also agreements that you'll abide by the governing bodies regulations. You seem to be confusing yourself that it has to be one way or the other when in fact it's both. -

It can be both. The PZM make the rules & that rule has to be in the rider's contract to protect the league. -

This is pretty much every sport that exists. It's now all about how much money can be made rather than the interests of sport as a whole. Speedway is no longer about rider's just having fun, it's a living, that in itself means searching for the best. Frames, engines, tuners, tyres, etc etc. Speedway is in such a position it can't now turn the clock back & reset. In the UK we're finding it hard enough to find rider availability hence doubling up & guest riders. To go back & start from scratch I can see a single club surviving. With industry as it is up & down the UK there's not really a 'working mans' class as it once was anymore. There is no substantial jobs today that are down & dirty for little money. Predominantly if you have a full time job your comfortably in the 'then' middle class equivalent. Society today quite simply just don't want to spend a night out getting covered in dirt & dust, it's really just as simple as that. -

It's a common misconception among British Speedway fans that every Pole is a Speedway fan. For Poles it's about supporting their town. No club, no Speedway fans in Poland is pretty much how it works there. Also, just look at the difference in quality of stadia. Even if they are Speedway fans, it wouldn't take them long to give up on British Speedway. -
Why is Speedway not recognised?
Daniel Smith replied to Henllys's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Does anyone really need to provid an answer to the title question British Speedway's been dead for many years prior to CoronaV, these promoters couldn't be trusted not to pocket few £100k's -
Put it this way, the government will be trying to eradicate Speedway in the near future as they use combustion engines so why pay out £1000s now. Lets be frank here, Speedway needs a massive rethink if we want to still see it come 2030 & beyond

What's happened to the Swedish league?? Looking at signings so far it looks in rapid decline in rider standards. Is that a fair opinion?? Is it a conscious decision by clubs over Covid threats or has it been a gradual trend similar to the British league with declining spectator & financial income etc.

Don't know how you got all of that out of what I've said. I neither said Polish Speedway was rich in the 70s, neither did I say anything about free press etc in that era. 70s Polish Speedway wasn't full of riches, but it was as is today full of spectators. It had, as it does today, have it's own stadia. I never even said EVERY track in British Speedway was owned by the Speedway but there was a significant number that were, now lost forever. Polish Speedway has gone from rags to riches, I've never said otherwise. What it's always done though is adapt & maintain the interest in the sport. Sometimes British Speedway has failed to do. Polish Speedway today bares no resemblance of British Speedway of the 70s - 80s what so ever. -

Polish Speedway is very very different to British Speedway of the 70's. Everything from then to now is nothing of the same. For a start, Speedway was a hobby compared to today. So much money from sponsorship, TV, etc today where then it was heavily reliant on people through the turnstiles. Polish Speedway, like Premier League football have proven they can continue & adapted to less or no fans in the grounds. People talk about Speedway in Poland as some sort of new phenomenon but it's been massive their since the 70's too. What they've managed to do is progress & adapt to fit each decade. British Speedway's biggest & the only thing that's killed the sport here was the selling off of stadia to greyhounds, stockcars, rugby clubs etc. This single handedly set the decline. Whereas Poland have managed to keep & build new stadia for themselves. Yes we have Belle Vue but that has come at least 30 years to late. British Speedway stadia has gotten so bad they're places today's people just don't want to be. -
