British Final 2023
DJC replied to Hackett's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
If he’s worried about not beating Bewley he hasn’t beaten him anywhere since 2018 at Poole! One has kicked on just a little and one has gone backwards. If there were qualifiers he’d probably moan he wasn’t in one at Leicester! Is Hume the best choice? Why isn’t the u21 champ automatically in it? Especially when Schlien is. -

Gilkes falling for the oldest trick in the book! Should have been at least a 5-4 there -

I'm looking forward to seeing who's on Welsh comms for it. Their review is better than anything Wales Online have ever put together Press | S4C -
Still, after 25 years, about not being able to find set ups.

Poole v Oxford 9/8/23 Championship
DJC replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Yes same as Doyley and the Holders. IOW had a good stream of young Aussies when they were in the second division. Adam Shields, Gathercole and Sweetman all started there too I think -
As I said before I can never remember him being released mid season but he's happy to pick up every guest booking under the sun within his well calculated average each year. Smacks of a lack of self awareness - his loyalty to British speedway is only because he was never good enough to make Poland work full time. Although I'd imagine it's more his other half doing the talking and his mouth just moving!

Holder fit then? -
Is this the first time he's been bombed out mid season? I certainly can't remember it happening in the top league anyway. I know there were a few changes pre season around covid that saw him move teams but all before a wheel was turned. Finally a victim of the numbers game he plays so well each year to ensure maximum guest bookings and is about to kick off. That being said, he shouldn't be the one making way for the poor decision to sign Batch for Morris.

I wasn't there but again last night he scored 9 points by actually only beating Lambert and the new Dane from the Kings Lynn side and Basso retired in one. As I've said before he's going to get the better of Riss, Hume, Thompson and Rew whenever he's out with them so his average is going to be over inflated by the fact his own team mates are poor.

Germany over Sweden? Is it an opt -in or FIM picks? -

Requires a little bit of tactical know how though so I wouldn't count on it. -

That's the main thing, no last places and there's a really good chance. Bar Lidsey who was the best I've ever seen him the Aussie's didn't look great but imagine they'll take the last place in the final. Danes looked solid as usual but if the track is a little grippier they will fade for me. -

Something that seems to run through the whole GB set up. Reserves aren't used as they could be. How many times have we sent young lads over on u21/19 team and pairs competitions and the reserve not been given a ride even when rostrum places have been well out of reach. Never going to progress sat there watching. Czech's putting stichaer in the team and Milik at reserve is probably what got them through into the race off. -

Thought Ellis did well in the two he scored points in but as soon as the track changed a little and he was off 2/3 he didn’t look like quick enough to challenge. Thats where the managers should have given Brennan a run for me, he did very well to come in so late and make an impact. -

Can you watch from the start on the discovery app or can you only watch live? -
His average is relatively healthy as he's almost guaranteed 4 points minimum each meeting, just from beating Riss and Thompson/Hume who are all struggling. Then he has the two other reserves to beat meaning he will usually get 6 without breaking a sweat. The odd decent trap at home will mean he'll beat most no 4's in ht 3 and the odd race win in 12 at home giving him 7/8 points for little effort. Means he looks like he's scoring well and hitting a decent average but the reality is he's not beating anyone of note to justify a 'heat leader' role.

They named a squad of 10, enough for 2 sides. Still not my point, you're either a manager or a rider. -

I’m aware of the stats, if you read what I said that wasn’t my argument. But, Kolodziej rider there too and his average is higher than all but 2 of the Polish team but I’d be equally as surprised to see him in the final 5. Nicki is doing ok in the Polish league pretty average in Denmark and picking up quite a few more exclusions than usual from overriding. 1 from 4 with 3 exclusions in his last meeting? Did well the one before but another fall in that.An exclusion and a 0 in his last meeting in DK? -

Also, Having caught up on the Polish action from last night, will Woffy be able to ride after appearing to dump tackle an away fan and rumoured to have broken their arm? can’t see that going unpunished even if the fan shouldn’t have been near the track. video on socials doesn’t look great -

How many team managers are still riding in general, regardless of league I don’t think I’ve ever come across it. Maybe in the old conference league? He took the job as a back up incase he wasn’t fit enough after the big crash, should be one of the other for me. would love to see him go out and score a hat full of points but I can’t see it, plus it doesn’t show much faith in the rest of the squad if he thinks he has to go and do it! just my opinion and plenty will disagree -

Because it is. How many Team Manager's pick themselves in the team? Don't think he'd have got near the squad if he wasn't the manager -
Will he replace Hans if the injury/sacked rumours are true?
