  1. Not looking like the bloke on the season ticket could be a bit of a clue. Yeah, cos if you buy a packet of 6 tomatoes and don't eat one, you can always take rotting fruit back to Tesco afterwards and say "I bought this but didn't need it, give me some money back"
  2. "Gorilla" marketing ......Are you proposing we send large apes out fly-posting?
  3. At least this thread has woken up the BSPA. http://www.speedwaygb.co/news.php?extend.23315 Alex Harkess slams the BBC for snubbing Tai. The BSPA are going to ask the BBC for an explanation as to why he was overlooked. Good for them, the BBC is accountable to all licence payers, not just silly toffs sports. We deserve an explanation. Might be something for our all-party Speedway parliamentary committee to debate too.
  4. Amazes me too. "Personality" simply means a known or famous person. e.g. a television personality. I guess if the competition were being started now, rather than the 1950s, it would be called "Sports Celebrity of the Year". It's a competition to find the sportsperson/personality/celebrity who has had the most outstanding year. It's not called "Sports Personality you would most like to spend an evening down the pub with of the year"
  5. No, ...but a potential problem with them being dead.
  6. I thought it had now been phased out too. That's the problem when we only get snippets of info from the AGM. But even if Worrall gets a reduction, signing Zagar would only leave 3.13 which would seemingly need a double-upper for the last signing. With Cook and Worrall doubling-up, are you still allowed a 3rd double-upper, or is it being reduced to 2 in the new secret rules?
  7. Won't fit now. Adding Zagar to Nicholls, Cook and Worrall would only leave 2.99 for the 5th man.
  8. Absolutely! Yachting has to be the most stupid nomination of all. For 3 years and 11 months out of every 4 years no one takes a blind bit of notice of sailing. Then the Olympics come round, and one morning a commentator tells us that Phillippa Farquharson-Smyth and her crew have set off on their Olympic yachting race,,,,three days later, the commentator returns to tell us that Pippa has won a gold medal.....no one has watched anything, no one cares really, but we celebrate because the BBC tell us this is great and we must celebrate and wave the Union Jack. Anyway, quite a few Tai comments on the BBC website now http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/sports-personality/25017298 Very easy to register and leave a comment...or just thumbs up the existing comments I see Tai himself has commented on twitter saying "ah well, at least I got an invite"
  9. Nope. It was always an outside chance with the Beebs closed shop of toff sports like yacht sailing....But the only way the Beeb will get the message that we're not happy is if we tell them......write them an email and complain. If you have lost respect for the Beeb and don't agree with their choices, write and tell them. Write to the Beeb and tell them.
  10. Oh yes...hitting a fluffy ball over a net is far more demanding than trying to hang on to a 500cc bike with no brakes with a broken collarbone. "several major open events" ....The world famous Miami Sony open? Not sure that's several though.
  11. Let's disqualify Andy Murray then, since he only won one Grand Slam. (And unlike Tai Woffinden, Murray isn't even World No.1)
  12. And you're entitled to your opinion... Doesn't make you right though. And it would seem that the majority of the sports-watching public of 1964 didn't agree with you if more voted for Briggs than Rand. p.s. Keep tweeting #SPOTY to let the BBC know that the Speedway-going licence-payer wants to see Tai recognised https://twitter.com/search?q=%23spoty%20woffinden&src=typd&f=realtime
  13. Why will he lose face? What he's said is true. He's agreed his deals with his two clubs. He hasn't officially signed. He'll be signing his Edinburgh contract on Friday night.
  14. I agree. There's a real story here with his father, the bike ride to Cardiff, coming from nowhere to win the title, riding through painful injuries. etc etc The BBC #SPOTY do seem to be getting some tweets about him. Need more though https://twitter.com/search?q=%23spoty%20woffinden&src=typd&f=realtime
  15. I'd guess it means he'd done both his deals by 24/11, and was ready to sign his contracts - the first being signed in front of the Edinburgh fans this Friday. But now the Edinburgh paper have let the cat out of the bag and spoilt things by revealing the story before the actual signing takes place on Friday.
  16. Erm...No. Briggs was the deserved winner. I'm sure if you have a dig around you'll find the details of when the BBC as good as admitted it was fiddled. There was also the year when Bob Nudd, the angler, won. Again it was fiddled, and the rules changed for the following year.
  17. In 1964 he polled more votes than Mary Rand, but was placed 2nd by the Beeb because they didn't want a Speedway rider winning. This is now common knowledge, not a myth
  18. Don't be silly, It's the BBC who are asking people to tweet them and say who they think should have been in the 10 shortlisted nominations. Don't know if this will work. It should show the tweets that have mentioned Woffinden and #SPOTY. https://twitter.com/search?q=%23SPOTY%20woffinden&src=typd&f=realtime It doesn't include the ones who mentioned him but misspelt Woffinden .
  19. I'm not talking about The One Show. Obviously the BBC have already chosen their 10 preferred candidates. Tai may or may not be one. That's all The One Show are doing - telling who the 10 candidates are. But the Sports Personality of the Year programme covers more than just the 10 nominees. The BBC are today asking us who we think should have been on the experts list. If we can make a bit of noise about Tai, then it could still affect the mention he gets on the night.
  20. The shortlist of 10 is chosen by the BBC, and is being announced tonight. Then you can vote for those on the shortlist. Tai Woffinden may or may not be on the shortlist. In the meantime, the BBC is asking the public who they think should be on the shortlist. You can reply using the #SPOTY hashtag to @BBCSPOTY. We need to keep Tai's name in BBC minds. Even if he's not on the shortlist, if we make enough noise, they may have to mention him in the programme.
  21. Ah I see. You can't comment on the actual BBC website, but people need to send their suggestions of who should be in the final 10 shortlist via twitter and it gets picked up on there. OK... Everyone tweet to @BBCSPOTY use the hashtag thingy of #SPOTY and send them your shortlist of Tai Woffinden and 9 mere mortals
  22. Have you got a link to this? I can't see anywhere to comment
  23. Hell no. Don't give them the paddles to vote with. Make them phone their vote to a premium rate number at 50p a go.
