How big? I refuse to accept this Woosh as "bigger" until an independent auditor confirms the size of the previous woosh. And I don't know any auditors, and I cannot google for one as I am not a member of google and refuse to be. -

I believe the modern day term is "Sad case". And he claims to have been a journalist in the olden days. Can you imagine the headlines in his paper? "Ove Fundin claims to have won the World Title, but they moved it to Malmo this year and I don't believe it until someone from the track tells me exactly what happened...but I don't know the dialling code for Sweden and no one will tell me the dialling code, so it didn't happen [fingers in ears] la la la la [/fingers in ears]" -

I would have thought the two obvious options were a) filter twitter by the 5 different hashtags and count the votes yourself, or b.) Ask BT if they will disclose the actual figures. Then of course there is the illogical option.....ask a group of people who clearly aren't going to know the answer. Where were flyfishing and tiddlywinks in the poll? You either misread or are just making things up. -

Why is it an either/or choice? Tai's World title win has given the sport coverage on major national breakfast television, He's appeared on the major national sports radio programmes a number of times, his recent re-signing for Wolves appeared on the BBC website with equal billing to Luis Suarez re-signing for Liverpool. He was invited to the BBC SPOTY and given a mention. I'm sure if the satellite channels which cover speedway do a "SPOTY/review of the year in sport" type programme Tai will feature well. On top of this, a brand new satellite broadcaster, which has invested heavily in football and may be looking for back-up/so-called 'minority sports', has seen Tai voted their winner. Progress seems to be being made on all fronts. There's still a long way to go, but you can only be going forwards or backwards, and Tai's world title has definitely pushed things forward -
His sarcastic reply means that he doesn't know the answer. His further reply shows that he doesn't know that the "Speedway Control Board" doesn't even exist ....and hasn't for over 10 years now!

Well since it was about another Sports Personality of the Year vote, it seemed sensible to mention it in the Sports Personality thread. And guess what? it worked....people voted....and Tai won. Sorry if this denies you the chance to have a negative moan and make some snide comments about the sport, but I'm sure you can find something else to keep you miserable at Christmas. -

Well done Tai and everyone who voted. If BT are looking for a back-up sport to supplement their big spend sports like Football, this may just have planted a seed in some BT sport minds. -

Stayed awake to watch SPOTY? So that's what the secret is to having a wonderful life like yours...go to bed at 8pm! Presumably to follow this advice I'd need to get a teddy bear and a copy of Stenners Speedway Yearbook 1947? P.s. Haven't seen SPOTY yet. Unfortunately X-Factor was on in our house. Can't say I took a lot of notice of that, but I know who won. I won't spoil it for you though. -

Please enlighten us with the wonderful things you do with your life, so that we can learn. We know that you don't like going to watch Speedway, although you sit reading your old programmes whilst grizzling on about the good old days, and still feel the need to post on web forums. We know you don't watch TV, but still have to rush onto a website first thing next morning to talk about what you claim not to have watched. Help us to do the exciting things you do....as long as it doesn't involve sitting in a rocking chair in your mother's clothes looking at stuffed birds. -

Getting him to try to explain one of his posts could be setting a dangerous precedent. He's got dozens more out there that might need explaining too. -

It would have been cheating the public if Murray had won and they hadn't got a trophy to present to him. It's the same as football having 2 Premier League trophies in case the title goes to the last game of the season and they don't know which ground it will be needed at. -

Is there a poll for moaning whinger of the year? I'd like to give you a vote -
My Star is on subscription, but since the magazine aisle is the last one I have to walk down to get to the tills in the supermarket, I always have a look at the Star, and if there's more than one left, I pick one up, pretend to have a read, and then put it back in the next place, doubling the Star's advertising space on the shelves Got to do your bit to promote the sport haven't you?

Sounds like you've picked up a search redirect virus.

Without the 5-0 in heat 13 - Sheffield would have won. Without Hugh Skidmore conking out twice in the last 4 or 5 heats - Sheffield would have won And if your auntie had balls, she'd be your uncle. The sport is full of ifs and buts and you get the odd freak result. Going back two years you've found one match where a) a tactical has been used and b.) a freak result has ensued (the two things may or may not be related) Now how many matches during those two years have we had a tactical used, but no freak result. Just a closer more interesting match? dozens? a hundred? more?

Airfences don't last 10 years. Don't see why the BSPA can't give them an interest free loan over 2 or 3 years though.
-
I think the loss was more due to Hugh Skidmore breaking down twice in the closing heats and Sheffield conceding a 5-0 in heat 13 wasn't it? You'll always get a freak result somewhere whatever the rules.
