Aww thanks..the truth is, only a few know who I am at the meetings, my name may be known but but not the face so I can be completely anonymous at speedway.

My eldest son stopped going once he hit 16 and had to pay adult rate, for a person still in full time compulsory education, it was far too much for him (or me) to find each week. Even student rates are too expensive for someone in 6th form, so he went from going every week to going once in the last 3 years and the same will happen with middle son in the future....youngest stopped going a couple of years ago but that was nothing to do with the actual sport (he is autistic and couldn't cope with the noise or the people) I am on my second time round on going to speedway, I initially started going in the 80's but stopped in the mid 90's because I started my family and because the cost became excessive. For the last 3 years, the only thing that has kept me going to speedway is the fact I run the Updates site, without it, I would have stopped going in 2010 and the fact that in the interim time, my middle son has become hooked on the sport. In the early days of my return, I would be on here every day, checking out the latest news, joining in the conversations etc but as the seasons have gone past and my interest has waned, I rarely come here now....a few seasons ago, I would know who rode where, their average etc, now I have to check all the time! For me, the constant changing of rules, the debacle of a few seasons ago with the not wanteds and the AGM, the advantage getting by the bending of rules to suit have all made me just that little bit disillusioned with it all. To be honest, once middle son has to pay the increased admittance (he is the same as eldest, one of the eldest in the year, so more time between turning 16 and being able to get a student card for concession rate in 6th form than a lot of others, almost a year!), will probably be the day I will stop going for good as otherwise I will be Billy no mates standing there....... and that day is not far away.

Having had a few days to think about it, I do agree it was just a wee bit draconian to delete the entire thread. Although there was some crap in it, there was also some very good and informative stuff too, all of which has now been lost. As to people being banned for starting new Ipswich threads when the other disappeared, I would probably have been inclined to start one too if I had actually been looking on here when it was all kicking off...a simple note explaining why a new thread was not welcome would have sufficed rather than giving people a ban without a justifiable reason. For the well behaved contributors to that thread, it really does feel like a kick in the teeth and like class detentions at school when two or three have been playing up (something I am very very against as it doesn't work psychologically - it tends to make everyone else behave badly), we have all been put into an Ipswich detention! It is certainly not the sort of action I would take, my method would be more removing the offending posts and posters than the entire thread. But then, what do I know?

For me, it was Teletext or the local paper a few days later....most annoying if we were away and the television didn't have teletext and the national paper we picked up didn't have the team we wanted results for listed!

Quite a lot of which I removed last night...great fun doing that via a mobile phone, the recent forum upgrade makes it so much more eek to do anything via a mobile. I do get annoyed when people get on a young rider's back, we all have good and bad days or go through bad patches and sometimes I think we need to be more supportive and patient, it tends to get more out of a person than when we are constantly on their backs and being nasty about them. Ok, it is not nice when your team is losing but sometimes that patience can have its rewards. -

Ipswich V Glasgow . Premier League . 27-6-13
crazysue replied to Super Blue's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I've seen Ipswich in 1st and 2nd tier speedway over the years home and away (first starting going to Ipswich in 1989 until 1994 and then 2003 to present -my first speedway meeting was actually at Exeter in 1988 and returned via Poole in 2002!) and to be honest, I don't really see a great deal of difference between the two...apart from the names being on the telly more. You can get good and bad races in either of those leagues, good or boring meetings in either of those leagues etc etc etc. I actually love watching NL and junior meetings, not only do you get to see the riders progress from being rather nervous and just starting out to becoming more confident and moving up the leagues but the racing is pretty good too. Alas, finances, childcare and illness have put a temporary stop on me being able to attend anything other than the Ipswich home meetings for the last year or so (and Cardiff for the last 3!) but I hope in future as the boys get older, to be able to take in more Ipswich away or Mildenhall meetings. -

Jackal - I don't go in for hype, I just like to support our young riders. BTW - I am not a CL idolizer, although I attend Ipswich, I am more of a speedway fan than just an Ipswich one. -
Still need a texter for this...anyone?

Jackal - Please give Adam a chance. He is a relative new comer to the sport and he is young, very young. We need to support our riders not denigrate them when they score less than we personally expect of them (not that I expect more than 3 or 4 points anyway bbecause of his tender years and experience). I seem to remember a similar vendetta against another young rider in recent seasons and it was as distateful then as it is now. -
