  1. I think the Aussie team manager might be able to help them a bit with set ups.
  2. The temporary East grandstand. Looking impressive. https://twitter.com/TheAces/status/756903917909409792
  3. Wait until he's ridden at the NSS but he'll have to join the queue.
  4. Steve Worrall has made significant progress and he deserves his place as a standby but people need to remember that his current average had been achieved mainly riding at reserve and as a second string whereas Cook is riding as a heat leader. Even then Cook's average this season at the NSS is almost half a point higher than Worrall's.
  5. As riders have said, the track has been different match to match so, at the moment, they don't know what to expect. Against Swindon the inside line was best, at the British Final way out by the fence and against Leicester, Palm-Toft exploited a mid line. I don't see it as a track where there will ever be a big home advantage because it is too easy to ride and most seem to enjoy it but when it settles down home riders will know most weeks where the best grip and lines are likely to be and that will give them an edge. Our away record shows we are the best team in the league, we would beat almost everyone on a neutral track so or home record doesn't prove we have a home advantage. However Phil after your comments about the strength of the EL I assume your just joking ti get a reaction.
  6. I enjoyed my visit to Brandon last night. A good crowd and some decent racing despite the poor referee. My first visit was in the 1960's and I have seen many memorable meetings there over the years. I sincerely hope last night wasn't my last visit and that something can be done to secure the future of the Bees.
  7. King won the BF because the wet track made the best racing line out wide and King had the courage and skill to use it. Similarly at Cardiff he did nothing until the outside line developed. I suspect that the weather next week is not going to be wet and therefore not provide the conditions he needs to do well. I hope I am wrong and he does well. As for Cook it is a myth that he is not a racer. I have seen him chase and pass riders so many times. However, he has not yet ridden at his best this year but is still the right choice at the NSS. Some think Steve Worrall might have been a better choice. He has made fantastic progress, which he showed again last night but you cannot compare his scores as a second string to Cook riding as a heat leader.
  8. I used to think the same but having seen a few matches go ahead at the NSS after a lot of rain with good racing and race times, particularly the last meeting against Leicester, I have changed my mind. The bikes can cope well if there is a good track shape and drainage. Obviously, there will be occasions when it will be just too wet or when it is raining during a meeting but there is now much more confidence at Belle Vue that meetings will go ahead.
  9. I wouldn't claim 5 from 3 is brilliant but it's a decent score from a second and third heat leader away from home with the current race format where heat leaders race each other.
  10. I think it depends whether we are going to suffer the backlash from the heavy defeat at Wolves. It looked as if Swindon had their gating boots on for the few races at the debacle at King's Lynn last night. On form this could be close with Aces to pick up at least a point. Zagar has ridden well recently, Steve Worrall is doing well as a second string, Fricke had a blip in his last home meeting but has been riding well everywhere and Cook has a point to prove to Rosco. Much will depend on how Scott and Richie W do, they've both struggled a bit recently.
  11. So you were expecting a sell out crowd of 10,000 to be able to park free in the streets outside the stadium? As Phil has said it is the Council that have arranged this and it is BSI event but the joke would have been if nothing had been done to solve the traffic and parking problems. £5 to park and a park and ride system strikes me as a professionally organised event for a stadium built within a couple of miles of a large City centre. If you really do want to park free I am sure a quick look on Google maps will reveal plenty of streets unlikely to have restricted access within reasonable walking distance but Gorton is not exactly a salubrious area.
  12. Not every other promoter. Belle Vue have Max Fricke, Steve Worrall, Dan Bewley, Kyle Bickley, a NL team and the planned academy. That really is forward planning. The construction of the NSS took less time to build than it took Matt Ford to fill in that notorious hole on the first bend. Be afraid, be very afraid the times they are a changing.
  13. I think the better description is deluded.
  14. Lakeside have already tried that one without success because very few, if any, returned to pay the full cost and Belle Vue have tried reduced admission in the days of Gordon Pairman and just lost money. Sorry to disappoint but no. Doesn't really matter anyway with the excellent drainage.Lots of rain during the day of the last match and a downpour 20 minutes before the start but the track was fine.
  15. I just wish the Belle Vue management had the wisdom to appoint Starman as a special consultant. So far he has given invaluable advice on the construction of the track, the supervisory role Colin Meredith should have played, the pointless purchase of track covers and now the futile pr of after meeting press conferences. No wonder Poole are so successful when Matt has such a valuable advisor to guide his every move.
  16. Should be close. Wolves strengthened by the inclusion of Lambert and Masters should score more than r/r on their last visit but nobody missing for the Aces so should get 3 points. Be good to see PK, one of my all time favourites.
  17. A bigger league. A home match every week giving 28+ home meetings a season. Keeping most of the team season after season. Local riders in the team. The old T/S rule. Last year I would also have added some of the other things mentioned but the NSS now provides a brilliant track where spectators can be close up to the racing and with the option to get covered in shale for those who want it.
  18. Jakobsen and Lambert certainly gave 100% and looked impressive. The track was very wet following all the rain including a downpour after 7pm. The drainage again showed how good it is and in the circumstances the racing was OK. Some passing on the 3rd and 4th bends of the first lap as well as the usual on the 1st two bends. The wet heavy shale made it difficult to pass on later laps but there was some close racing. Considering the terrible weather and the absence of NKI, Robert Lambert and Cook I didn't think the crowd was too bad. I suspect many thought it would be called off.
  19. The league table I'm looking at Swindon are in the top four and Poole are fifth. I'm not saying Poole won't get into the play offs but with Poole currently fifth Coventry have got an even tougher job.
  20. An enjoyable meeting. The track was slick and the outside line just wasn't working but still some close racing with some good races. Wolves didn't give up, Lindgren looked fast in his first couple of races and was worth more than he scored, Thorssell battled hard all night and Kylmakorpi had his moments. I was surprised at how poor Howarth was, he was the best EDR at the start of the season. For the Aces a good solid performance. Fricke was superb, Cook rode well and it was a shame having passed Lindgren that he made a mistake coming off the last bend that let him through for the win. Nicholls seemed unlucky to be excluded in heat 6, he certainly got a nudge from Lindgren going into the first bend, Steve Worrall acquitted himself well in a heat leader role, refusing to be intimidated by Lindgren who was in close contention in the rerun of heat 6. Jacobs also did really well and makes those calling for his head in the earlier part of the season look foolish. It's good to see the fear coming from some of Ford's disciples. Not too sure about that, no Fricke and a question mark over Bomber's current form. Although I still think we shall win.
  21. Hansen may well score as many as PK would, maybe more if he gates and Morris is probably an improvement on Clegg on current form and at the NSS. I can't see r/r scoring as many as Masters might have done. The new improved Fast Freddie and Kylmakorpi should like the new track. 3 points for the Aces.
  22. I know Bomber usually does ok but he's not exactly on form at the moment. Fricke is a significant loss and again the question is why are these matches arranged to clash with events like the World U21 and the Slovenian Championship. I think Aces will come away with all the points.
