Threat To The World Cup
WIE-JA replied to TwoMinuteWarning's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
You mentioned in an earlier post somewhere about that it's easy for riders to stay in the GP series and they are almost guaranteed to do so. I mentioned Rune Holta might dissagree with you. You then posted about it only being one rider and implying it doesn't matter. That is when I posted that the majority of riders who lose their slot in the GPs would be dissapointed. I have deliberatly typed this slowly for your benefit. Also glad to see in your post that you are looking forward to watching the GPs in 2012. -

OK. The majority of riders who have lost their GP place in the last 3 seasons. Is that recent enough for you? Or I could have just given you a list of all the riders that have dropped out since the start of the GP system. What about your constant banging on about a system that has been gone for 16 years? That's going back further than me. What do you think is better for a wider audiance. Top class World Championship GPs on TV every couple of weeks or one meeting a year? -

Indeed. Untill all the countries in the world have a fair chance of qualifying, how can it be considered a true World Championship? -

Oh I am sorry. I didn't realise there was a time limit on when riders would be dissapionted on loosing their GP place. -

OK smartarse. Protasiewizc, Walesek, Zagar,Mikael Max, Screen who lost his place through injury. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it wrong. The system isn't perfect but nothing is. Deal with it. -

Bet Rune Holta isn't saying it's easy to stay in as long as you want. World number 4 to non GP rider in one easy step. -

He's old and confused -
And he met the requirments for racing in the league.
-
So you found the racing entertaining last season and were quite happy to pay to see it but want some unknown Polecat or Scandie to be included to add to the value? I've allways found the racing to be good at Mildenhall in the 3rd division and don't see how binging in random foriegners would improve it. Maybe if they went Elite League and brought in some top riders it would make the racing better but then you would be paying 16/17 quid to get in.

Someone with a bit of knowledge, Malcom Vasey or Jayne probably, explained it last winter. Riders requiring a work permit are not allowed to compete in a semi-professional league. At the end of the day what is wrong with looking after our own for a change?
-
It matters where they are born as the league was set up to help BRITSH riders develope. Tai could ride in the league because he is British. Not that hard to understand really. Let young Swedes, Danes etc learn in their own countries then come over here to race when they are ready.

Speedway Gp In Tatters !

No it aint. -
I'll agree with that. Speedway sells and promotes itself too cheaply. There is no glamour in its promotion or making the general public believe that they must be there. Look at what has happened in darts. A more piontless and dull sport would be hard to find but it has been promoted very well over the last few years.

Thanks for the answer Parsloes. The only problem with that requirment is that I can't think of any other motorsports World Championship that meets your expectations. Does this then mean that all other motorsport World Championships are a farce and that Speedway is actually not alone in being percieved as a joke sport?
