That is entirely the point, thus destroying the myth that the races in the PL are contested by more equal rivals.

lol a bit sad some might say! But worth it on each and every occasion. -
If You Could Bring Back One Rider...

Everything 3 times in the last few years Sam has rode in various meets in the UK.. as soon as I have found out I've booked flights from Portugal to be there. I forgot to give a reason, other than him being my hero... He epitomised team speedway. He'd team ride, nurture riders, turn average riders into good ones and quite simply was Wolves Speedway. It's never quite been the same since he finished. -

Totally biased answer from me, but my boyhood hero Sam Ermolenko. He remains to this very day the only rider I would drop everything to see ride. -
It's been mentioned already about the standard of rider being closer in the PL.... which of course now with the race format in the EL is far, far from the truth. You only have to look at the spread of averages in each league, far more tightly congested in the EL.

And here lies the key to the overwhelming majority of the sports problems!
-
These threads basically show us some (not all) Premier League fans are completely and utterly deluded. Why the feel there is a constant need to try and justify why 'their' league is better is beyond me. It's all speedway ffs. 99% of the stuff they come out with is just plain wrong. The one argument that can be put forward is that there is more variety in the PL as it is a larger league. That is a perfectly legit argument.. but one rarely used. Instead we get all the myths we can see listed in this thread.
-
Ah we're back to the old myths again. I do wonder why Premier League teams aren't packing stadiums out.....

The last two Sky meetings have shown that with just a little bit of imagination and a bit of promotion the sport can be great! The racing in both of those meetings was decent. It was not amazing racing, far from it, but it SEEMED much better because there was a big crowd and a vibrant atmosphere. Present this product each week on TV and slowly but surely more and more people will start to make their way to tracks. It really is SO SIMPLE yet after 15 years of tv coverage they still haven't grasped it (perhaps they will now). One of these meetings was PL.. one was EL.. so the league made no difference. One thing I do note is, with the PL meeting, EL posters were quick to post that they enjoyed it... not so on the EL meeting, the PL whingers were nowhere to be seen... yet if a poor EL Meeting is shown they are all over it like a rash.

It really is staggering the mentality of a few PL supporters. For starters, I would never want to be labelled as PL or EL supporter.. I'm a speedway supporter and tire of seeing the constant sniping that comes consistently from certain PL fans. The first snipe they have is attacking the Elite League name.. even though the name is 100% correct. Yes, 100%, not even a debate. It is the highest league in the UK and is therefore the Elite. The incorrectly named league is the Premier League. Again, that's 100% and not even a debate. The next ridiculous snipe they make is the prices that Elite League charges due to the extortionate wages of top riders... again oblivious to the fact that some PL teams charge as much as Poole! So the 'extortionate prices' are in the PL. Not even a debate. Finally the constant snipe about the 'low standard' of the Elite League.. which again, the posters who make it are completely oblivious to the fact that however low the standard of the EL is, the PL is lower so in effect they are abusing their own league.

So do I. He's proved otherwise.

As I said, perhaps if he said it at the time, not waited till there was a backlash from his latest action, then thought up a reason, more would accept it. Except he didn't. He contacted Leicester and gave them some flimsy story. Not the spin doctor version he put out the following day.

Swindon Robins V Coventry Bees 26th May 2015

No 2 isn't a difficult position. It's the easiest position in the top 5! -
Another sick excuse. He didn't tell Leicester this did he, maybe he would have garnered a little more sympathy. It was only after he started coming in for the flak he produced his sob story... and even then it was an add on after his excuses about the bikes and riding as a heat leader. Those things are irrelevant if an accident to another rider has made you lose your bottle and wouldn't even be mentioned.

I personally think a big crowd and atmosphere naturally brings more out of the riders too. It really is a no brainer. Every sky meeting for the rest of the season should be promoted in this way. -

Except she showed no bias in her post, unlike you, merely stated facts. That Coventry lost their No 1 and had 2 exclusions and that was glad to take a pt.. as any Coventry fan would have been going into Heat 15! No mention of whether the exclusions were fair or unfair is made. A little too eager to further your personal vendetta and made yourself look a tad silly. -

That's the point! Every single tv meeting should be promoted in such a way. -
Of course. However the changes made have only made things worse.

Second Sky meeting in a row with a big crowd and decent atmosphere. Some decent racing, with the odd great move.. but it all looks and feels so much better with a big crowd watching it. The sport is SO easy to sell. Will they learn from this? I doubt it.. be back to normal again soon. 15 odd years of wasted TV coverage. The sport really could be in a so much better shape. -
Except that happened 3 years ago. In case it escaped your notice Bridger has ridden in many, many meetings since then.
-
Yet its still a higher quality than the Premier League. The more you mock the standard of a league higher than your own, the more you mock your own. Season after season as the Elite League was weakened many of us predicted it would only result in a further deterioration in the fan base. So it has proved.
-
Exactly. So PL are ripping of their fans.. Simples. The very idea of weakening the EL has caused riots on here because those 'rioting' predicted exactly what would happen. And it has.
