  1. Will check but last I heard was £1,375 - which is a superb effort by those on the terraces - and in the posh seats too of course (and on the grass banking!!)
  2. ste Look I'm not arguing that we have riders swapping and reswapping places on all four laps of every race but it really is rose tinted glasses to suggest that the Owens - great riders that they were - David Bargh, Bobby Beaton, Brian Havelock, Kenny Carter et al were continually picking up wins from the back. What I will agree is that a deep track where it is difficult to turn a speedway bike will lead to errors; errors allow more opportunity to make a pass - whether it is quality racing or not is very much in the eye of the beholder
  3. Berwick Bandits 1 Aaron Summers Rider/replacement 2 Dany Gappmaier 3 Tomas H Jonasson 4 Kevin Doolan (C ) 5 Jye Etheridge 6 Coty Garcia 7 Leon Flint Newcastle Diamonds 1 Steve Worrall 2 Ulrich Ostergaard 3 Lasse Bjerre 4 Marry Wethers 5 Thomas Jorgensen 6 Max Clegg 7 Danny Phillips Also Berwick Academy v Ashfield Giants in the Northern Junior League. Half-time collection for the Speedway Riders' Benevolent Fund and the first Bandits 5-1 Draw. Admission £17 adults, £13 concessions, children accompanied by a paying adult free, Family and Friends two adults admissions and two Matchday Magazines for £35. Car parking free. Start 7pm.
  4. Doesn't stop you being a bunch of gaters - the fact that they haven't is, as you say, why they are at the bottom. Truth is speedway's always (in the 50-odd - some very odd - years I've been around anyway) been a gaters' sport, with some honourable exceptions. Ivan Mauger wasn't famous for his from the back victories was he? Ole Olsen, Hans Nielsen, Eric Gundersen, Bruce Penhall, even Tony Rikk won their world titles because they gated more often than the others - Peter Collins won one, largely because he didn't. Didn't make any of them unwatchable in the slightest.
  5. Anyone still interested can still register their details as there is the option to expand the numbers - and the prizes - in future. Name, email and a contactable telephone number via the Berwick Bandits Supporters Club Facebook page, email club@berwickspeedway.com or I'll have a sheet to fill in at the Box Office table at the remaining home meetings. Come on 56, come on 56, come on 56!!!!
  6. I'm wide awake thank you very much and in the interests of clarity he hasn't replaced Summers he's replaced Busk Jacobsen. as for your reply Why? Exactly what is he earning? How do you know? Are you his agent? A friend? A sponsor? Bankrolling the Bandits? ... or are you just one of those "I say it , so it must be true" style contributors?
  7. Fine ... now while there's no reason to know what the deal is let's just say that he has come on exactly the same deal as the man he replaced was on and his signing brings maybe a handful of fans through the turnstiles for the two remaining home meetings (three if you count both elements of the double header) who might have been tempted to give it a miss if the Bandits were using r/r and or guests then he's paid for himself. You're one of those who are always banging on about speculating to accumulate and promoters promoting - you should be happy (look it up in any dictionary). Just passing comment
  8. ah the obligatory forum black cloud - might be worth turning the predictative text off tho
  9. Just eight numbers left in the 5-1 Draw. Great effort by the Supporters' Club to sell the 120 numbers. Reserve list will be collecting expressions of interest at the Box Office entrance over the next two Saturdays.
  10. Not just the last meeting of a hugely busy August; not just a derby against our nearest and dearest; not just the opportunity to help riders injured while banging handlebars for our entertainment ... but the chance to go home £500 richer. Teams to be posted later in the week - and the riders will be in the crowd after heat 10 collecting for the Speedway Riders' Benevolent fund. But there is still, until Wednesday at least, time to join the Bandits 5-1 Draw - £500 t0 the winner, £100 second prize - which will be drawn after heat 15, between the main match and the NJL clash of Berwick Academy and Ashfield Giants. 102 of the 120 numbers have already been bought for the draw which, when fully subscribed, will hand a £600 monthly boost to the S.T.A.R.S initiative which aims to help secure the future of speedway at Berwick. Berwick Bandits Supporters' Club is running the draw on the Bandits' behalf and anyone wanting to register for the first draw needs to have a direct debit or standing order set up no later than Wednesday (August 28). Messenger the Supporters’ Club via its Facebook page (which also contains a list of the available numbers), text Angela Wilson on 07572520363 or email club@berwickspeedway.com If any numbers remain unsold names will be collected at Saturday’s meeting – along with a “reserve list” – but they will not be “active” until the September draw. More information from the Box Office entrance.
  11. Edinburgh were already due on the 7th, Glasgow is the additional fixture
  12. This is kind of a repeat of an earlier post but I've now clarified one or two bits. Effectively each individual meeting of the double header is valued at £17 adult entry, £13 concessions ... but it costs £30/£25 concessions to get in because that is what the promotion believes is a reasonable amount to ask for 30 heats of Championship speedway. Anyone holding a rain-off ticket can use it against that entry fee - ie an Edinburgh one is worth £10 off admission, a Glasgow one £17 or £13 concessions, a family and friends ticket £34 off the combined price of two entries (ie £60). There were no concessions or family and friend tickets issued at the Edinburgh meeting. Anyone wishing to leave after the first meeting will receive a £13 refund on adult admission or the equivalent of what they paid. For example an adult who used an Edinburgh rain-off ticket and paid £20 to get in would be entitled to a £3 refund. Let's assume (even if it makes an ass out of u and me) that no Glasgow fan would use their rain-off ticket and then leave after the Edinburgh meeting! They will only be able to claim that refund in the interval between the two meetings. A ticket protocol will be in place to ensure that anyone wanting to leave gets the appropriate refund. The turnstiles will also reopen in the compulsory 20 minutes between meetings and anyone just wanting to watch the Glasgow meeting can for £17/£13 concessions. Sorry this is long-winded but there isn't a simple answer because of the many differing forms of potential entry on the night. Oh ... and children accompanied by a paying adult will be admitted free.
  13. There are ... everyone will pay £30 to get in for the first meeting. They will be able to leave after the first meeting and get part of the £30 refunded - sorry to be vague but I've forgotten exactly how much the refund is (as you can imagine there are a lot more variables than normal with rain-off tickets of different face value etc. Will check and post the exact figure as I wouldn't want to get it wrong and cause confusion on the night. The turnstiles will also reopen in the compulsory 20 minutes between meetings and anyone just wanting to watch the Glasgow meeting can for £17/£13 concessions.
  14. Anyone who has missed one or more meeting will be able to use their pass. Those that have full attendance - and it's a couple of handfuls (as it were) will get admission and programme for Edinburgh included, pay £15 for the Glasgow portion (I suppose they could go home after the first meeting ... but why would you?) concessions £12.50. Ticket use has been recorded over the season - anyone in any doubt can check with me on Saturday night. Holders of rain-off tickets will get the face value of those tickets taken off the £30 cost of admission - ie £10 for an Edinburgh ticket, £17 or £13 concessions for a Glasgow ticket; £34 for a Glasgow family ticket (concessions and family tickets were not issued for the Edinburgh meeting). Bumper programme being produced but will still cost £3. Think that's it all covered - any questions please ask ... I'll answer between stacking the baked and suncream
  15. Berwick Mike Hope of Wooler Bandits 1 Aaron Summers 2 Nikolaj Busk Jakobson r/r 3 Dany Gappmaier 4 Kevin Doolan (C) 5 Jye Etheridge 6 Coty Garcia 7 Leon Flint Team manager Gary Flint Birmingham Edwards Plumbing Brummies 1. Adam Ellis 2. Tobias Thomsen 3. Tero Aarnio 4. Paco Castagna 5. Jason Garrity (C ) 6. Josh Embleton 7. Nick Agertoft Team manager Laurence Rogers Bandits’ fourth meeting in seven days and the third at home. There are rumours of another visiting invasion of fans in the wake of the ultra-friendly Eagles posse last week; Birmingham also entering the Edinburgh/Berwick/Newcastle triangle. Admission is £17 adults, £13 concessions, children accompanied by a paying adult are free, Friends and Family admits two adults who receive two Matchday Magazines for £35. Birmingham recall Tobias Thomsen – who made five early-season appearances for them - in place of injured skipper James Shanes. He has quite a bit of Shielfield experience having appeared in the last two Stars of Tomorrow events. Following the surprise retirement of Jordan Jenkins early in the week the Brummies have booked Josh Embleton from the all-conquering Newcastle Gems side as a guest replacement. Tero the Hero returns to his original UK stomping ground while Jason Garrity is often worth the admission price on his own while Adam Ellis and Paco Castagna have both had productive evening in the Borders. As always the gates open at 6pm, meeting starts at 7pm. Dick Barrie promised those who huddled against the Arctic wind on Wednesday night that it would be a sunshine Saturday - as always other weather forecasts are available ... and will no doubt feature on this forum.
  16. bright and breezy, cloudy but it's been like that all day. Might be worth packing a hoody - Bandits ones are available at the track!! - because it's not an obviously summery day temperature-wise - even for Berwick
  17. Bandits 1 Aaron Summers 2 Jye Etheridge 3 Dany Gappmaier 4 Kev Doolan 5 Nicolaj Busk Jacobsen r/r 6 Coty Garcia 7 Leon Flint Scorpions 1 Jake Allen 2 Danny Ayres r/r 3 Stefan Nielsen 4 Josh Auty 5 Ben Barker 6 Ryan Kinsley 7 Simon Lambert A rare midweek home outing for the Bandits against a Scorpions side filled with riders who have all gone well at Shielfield in the past – Ben Barker recently so when guesting for Somerset. Should be a comfortable home win but as heat 15 on Saturday showed it’s best not to take anything for granted. Both sides operating rider-replacement. Housekeeping notes: gates open 6.30pm. Anyone who was at the Eastbourne meeting already has a programme containing the racecard for Wednesday night. If you forget to bring it, weren’t there on Saturday, are a supporter of Scunthorpe, a 15-match Bandits’ season pass holder determined to get their full entitlement or just have a thing for buying programmes they are on sale as normal, priced £3. As usual accompanied children are admitted free. Friends and Family deal operating. Obviously if you already have a programme it doesn’t make financial sense – but life is all about making choices so if you insist we’ll let you pay an extra quid. Anyone wanting to join the new 5-1 Draw should waylay a member of the Supporter’s Club – most obviously on the third bend or in the B&G after racing finishes. Only 120 numbers and they were filling up fast on Saturday night. Monthly prizes of £500 and £100. £600 to the S.T.A.R.S. Project, first draw August 31.
  18. cleared by a combination of muscle power, a tractor and a chain virtually before the post-match interviews had been completed. Plenty of laps completed by the juniors before the curfew kicked in as, despite the aftermath of the heat 15 crash the main meeting was still over by about 8.45. Reports are reaching me that bearing in mind we have a home meeting on Wednesday as well as Saturday this week that a second pint of diesel has been ordered ... just in case
