As ever an interesting read. Thank You. As a postscript the much truncated stadium at Crayford closed it's doors for the final time last month. Gone to the dogs: Crayford closure a stark reminder of the downfall of a sport that could once attract royalty | Racing Post

Longest Stay Norwegian riders (reverse of previous post)!!
salty replied to BOBBATH's topic in Years Gone By
Odd Fossengen and Edgar Stangeland spring to mind. Odd rode from 1968 -1974 at Poole whilst Ed rode for a number of clubs throughout the 70's. -
Wolves Speedway potential new stadium???

Hadn't seen that news. Probably makes it less likely that Entain would be prepared to lose Monmore as well. -

I suppose it boils down to whether Entain can continue to provide enough dog racing to fulfil the needs of their customers. As far as I know they also run Crayford, Romford and Hove. Having worked for Ladbrokes many years ago my understanding was that they kept the tracks in their ownership (in those days just Crayford and Monmore - Romford and Hove were Coral) to give them more control over the dog racing product in the betting shops. -
Finally got round to watching this. Fascinating. Thanks for posting.

Haven't seen this news anywhere else on here so thought I'd post this link. Simon suffered a "serious stroke" last week and is currently starting the recovery process. The facebook page has been set up by his family to keep everyone aware of his progress. (13) Facebook

A life well lived who gave an awful lot to Speedway over the (many) years. RIP.

Of Cradley's 1972 team - 4 still with us, Bob Andrews, Roy Trigg, John Hart and Mick Handley. Three sadly not, Bernie, Pete Jarman and Jimmy Squibb.

2025 GP line up/wildcards
salty replied to eric i's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Whilst Rune was indeed riding under a Polish licence and rode for them in the WTC, he was also conscious that he would have been unlikely to be nominated for a Wild Card as a Pole and was aware that he needed to be a top 8 rider to qualify for the next year's series. Can recall him saying that on one or more occasions in interviews. -
A good read as always. Particularly enjoyed reading about the Tigers move to Hampden and how close they were to moving to Cathkin Park.

Believe so.

Yes, I saw him ride when the Lions visited Dudley Wood in 1969. He only got 1 point from 3 rides. but an average of 4.88 in his debut season suggests he would have been a bigger success if he'd returned to these shores. Best remembered I suppose as a member of that 1969 Leicester line up that were all ever presents in the British League.

As ever, a good read. Thank you!

I was there! August 1975. Cradley did it with just 6 riders as well as Sandor Levai withdrew following a first heat fall.

Cracking meeting, really enjoyed that.

Interesting read as ever - Thank you.

Lived in South-West London through the 80's so only occasional visits over to Waterden Road. Most memorable race I saw there was the final of the National League Pairs in 1985. Stan Bear riding for Poole kept trying to push Louis Carr (Ellesmere Port) ever wider to try and avoid last place but finally overdid it and took Louis off on the final bend, race awarded to Ellesmere Port. race was won by Joe Owen just a few weeks before his career ending crash at Birmingham. Attended both GP's at the re-configured track and even went a couple of times for the London Lions season. Was ever a plusher stand built that had such a short life?
