  1. Its Big Tony, Garys dad that will keep him grounded, and there is hope that he will also keep Gary grounded as well.
  2. I would not recommend he be at any Northern club, let alone Newcastle.
  3. As I said, would love the opportunity to watch Leon race regularly, if his progression in the sport is elsewhere to the benefit of his career, then I am happy whatever his decision. He is it a stage where sentiment is launched right out of the window. He owes Berwick speedway nothing, most of his progression has been elsewhere, and with the support of Big Tony is all of his own doing.
  4. It can also put pressure on a rider riding in front of his local crowd, not necessarily from the fans but from the rider himself, who will want to perform to his best at home. My hope is he will sign for a senior team in the Premiership possibly then be loaned out to a Championship club, that club may be Berwick, who knows. My gut feeling although he has come on leaps and bounds this season, another year at National League level is needed
  5. Would be great for me to see him ride on a regular basis, would be great for the club and his sponsors who have supported him so far. Would it be good for Leons career, probably not, so I look at the bigger picture, Leon needs to be going to where he can advance the most, I feel that is elsewhere. Leon is intelligent enough to make his own decision, and at the end of the day it is what he wants, and I hope no individual is placing any pressure on him.
  6. Will have to decline the No1 position at Berwick, got a much better offer from Koprivnze as No1. Not a hard decision a very well prepared track and as much Slivovice as I want. HAPPY DAYS
  7. Thats what happens when you follow the money, as opposed to where you would be better served for your future.
  8. Next weeks entertainment as there is no speedway. Colin is performing the Hokey Cokey in Cornhill village hall. Followed by The Highland Flunk, all in his Northumbrian Tartan
  9. Sorry Sarah, for me this season has been poor racing not always Berwicks fault nevertheless. The 1st meeting against Glasgow was fantastic, brilliant racing on a well prepared track, considering the score on Saturday I did enjoy the meeting, Apart from that the racing has been fairly poor with the odd good heat thrown in this season. I have missed a few meetings this season to be more precise chose not to attend and it does appear that the meetings I chose not to attend were wise choices. Some fans think a win is good speedway, for me it is about good racing and the win although preferred is not the main thing over good close racing, of which there has been little this season at Berwick. I do know that you can only race what is put in front of you, but it has not lent itself to being entertaining
  10. Bl**dy hope not, scores like that are generally boring meetings, I like to be entertained
  11. Well Saturday is the last home meeting of the season. Can anyone remember when Berwick had a season this short
  12. I assume the Trust at Edinburgh have an input into the running of the club as the trust does with the Berwick Rangers Trust, Glasgow totally different scenario 2 brothers with lots of disposable income that they seem willing to lose, would be nice to have that at Berwick, SUGAR DADDIES.
  13. Just being a pragmatist, I see a need for fund raising in specific areas of need, the Cancer Cars need donations to help cancer victims, the Air Ambulance need donations to help save lives and so on. Speedway is an entertainment provision where the entertainment is disappearing, the way forward is to provide entertainment that the public are willing to pay for, they gates will improve and will pay for itself. This format is asking fans to prop up the sport because of it's own failure, hence perpetuating the poor entertainment that is provided. As you say use it or lose it, the answer is USE IT. Sort out the structure, reduce the running costs for riders, this will result in lowering overpaid point money, the gate money is already overpriced for the entertainment provided probably worth £10 a meeting. If fans want to donate, so be it, I already do via heat sponsorship and rider sponsorship, most fans are not in my situation, simply they cannot afford it. IMPROVE THE PRODUCT, TO IMPROVE THE GATE
  14. I can only think with my business head, charity starts at home for me Direct sponsorship yes, advertising yes, attendance yes. wouldn't it be great if someone ran a car boot sale and gave the proceeds to me to support my business, because I had got my business structure wrong. If the sport of speedway is based on being propped up by the hard pressed supporter , then the only conclusion is the sport is flawed and is doomed to fail.
  15. Support comes via the fan paying at the gate surely, plus businesses like mine paying for advertising which I class as a donation to the club. Get the gate up with good quality entertainment and the business should pay for itself
  16. I will simplify this, I get as much entertainment following speedway on updates, as I do in attending Shielfield Park this season, it is a sad indictment when old die hards like me can TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT, in entertainment value. Something serious needs to occur before it's total demise , a good start would be to strip Promoters from the decision making, everything set by an independent group.
  17. I wouldn't bother buying the DVD from Saturday against Glasgow though
  18. One league of up to 20 teams, less daft cup matches and Play Offs. A 2nd tier for under 21s British only as a development league, at least 2 British riders under 21 at No ^ & No 7 in The New League
  19. Management Pal , knowledge is paramount,, sport needs to go Semi Professional in the UK, too many Prima Donnas on inflated wages,
  20. It wasn't Berwicks fault on Saturday night, as Glasgow didn't turn up. After Friday up at Glasgow I was expecting a meeting similar the one at the beggining of the season. Apart from heat 9 which was brilliant and heat 13 to a lesser degree there was little entertainment to be had. I have said it many times we pay to be entertained and simply are not being entertained. I am not blaming our club for that on Saturday night as it isn't their fault the opposition wasn't up for the fight. Heard it was 56 ton of shale, but was hardly noticeable, shows how little shale was on the track previously
