Top Post It's about time people got to know what it's like organising a Team, it's not just about picking top names, you have got to make sure those riders will gel together as a Team. Things don't always just fall into position, not everybody has the knack of putting a Team together, who can work together, Rob Lyon has the ability to get a collection of riders to work as a Team and all pull together, I think that was shown Monday night. I wish them all the best for Saturday -
What a terrific night, well done to buster and all the Kings Lynn staff, from the word go when you arrived the car parking was well organised, the track was well prepared, exellent lighting, liked the new lights added to the Apex of the bends. I think a special mention must go to the presentation, with Mike Bennett getting the crowd going with the air horns, and in particular, the Air Horn Mexican Wave, I thought that was brilliant, and timed well to the opening of the Sky broadcast, and a mention must go to the chioce of the music, particularly the Playing of Land of Hope and Glory with the brilliant win, whether people who watched Sky heard any of that I don't know, I would love to see a recording of the Sky broadcast to watch it all over again. And a big well done to Rob Lyon, Scot Nichols, Lee Richardson, Tai Woffinden, Simon Stead and Chris Harris, they worked as a Team indeed.

Sorry, I was thinking about the music they may have played just before the tapes went up

I would take a guess at The start of "The Gallop" from "William Tell". I dont know, but quite a few tracks used that, I think one or two still do.

Julian57, Did your wife get any of the memorabilia that Jim's brother Archie had at his home Nr Leighton Buzzard. I knew Archie when I lived in Leighton Buzzard, and went to his home and he showed me all the Trophy's and scrap books of Archie and Jim's time in Speedway, there were loads of items and I wondered what happened to them when Archie passed away

Sorry, yes it was Hans, but I just said if they were working from the correct gate position sheet, why didn't he query it when he got to the gate
-
As regards the gate mix up, if Jan Staechmann and his Team were working to the spreadsheet why didn't Klindt know he was going off the wrong gate It seems the start line crew had the same gate positions as Rob Lyon and the other Teams, which is why Rob looked bemused, as did the other Team Managers All riders work to the gate positions in the official programme that is given to them before the meeting starts, it looks like only Jan Staechmann was working from the spreadsheet, the thing is was the referee working from the spreadsheet or the official programme Bit of a cock up all round, but you can't blame Rob Lyon for looking like he did. Anyway, my thoughts on Team GB, brilliant, a resounding success Edit Sorry, just seen doc61's post, and he has said much the same as I have

There was a time when the SCB ruled that you could not ride in anything else other than Leathers, but they relented on that about the same time as they relented on the use of the laydown engine. perhaps not many of you can remember those rules, it is some time ago now. Leathers still are the better protection, road racers are not allowed to use anything other than leathers, and as regards cost, that is a ridiculous argument when it comes to protection The money Nikki will lose from being laid off by that burn, he could have bought himself several sets of leathers -

Agree with you Stoney=Legend Rob Lyon has the ability to take riders and get them to ride as a Team, there's no doubt the work he has done at Kings Lynn is tremendous, getting them to work as a Team. This is a chance to build for the future, to be a true Team. -
Here you have it in a nutshell, "TEAM", this is why Rob Lyon is the best man for the job, he has the knack and ability to get riders to work together as a team, helping and encouraging each other in the pits, the teamsmanship within the Kings Lynn Stars is terrific, and this is all down to Rob Lyon making it the best "Team" in the league. Given time I'm sure Rob can get Team GB to work as a Team, and not a group of individual riders. So many people are ready to knock Rob, but it is mainly based on jealousy of how well he has done with Kings Lynn, and how successful they are. They are a true Team

Mustn't forget that tracks had to pay entertainment tax on the gate money, it was quite hefty, it closed a lot of Cinema's , theatres, and Speedway tracks

The 1981 world final was shown live on TV, well I say live, it was shown late and showed recordings of the earlier heats until they caught up with it live, if you get what I mean, I've got a recording of it, although I went to Wembley, I set the recorder to record it, but as it ran late, I didn.t set the timer long enough so lost the end

Hi Rod It didn't end there, I knocked the throttle back and she dropped, I fell across the tank, when I opened the throttle to recover, she lifted again then dropped again, Its the only time I got to the turn first, I don't think anyone else would come near me ......as you say the face says it all

For those of you have never seen a Brafield Badgers race jacket, I'm wearing one here, getting out the gate in a hurry, at Peterborough, the black and white V shape represented the head of the Badger. Badger jacket

Vic is quite poorly at the moment, I spoke to his wife a couple of weeks or so ago.

I think you could refer to most Elite League riders as part time.....They ride part of the time for British clubs and part of the time for Foreign clubs

Great bloke, good Speedway rider, Team Captain, team rider, he had the art of getting to the front and then slowing the racing down to get his partner through. Martin Goodwin said when he was at Arena Essex Bob Humphreys taught him how to win races without going fast. I had the pleasure of being mechanic for Bob, his wife Jane and my wife Jackie got on well together so the four of us used to travel around together track to track, in 1980 he was not only Milton Keynes No 1 in the NL, but also rode at No 4 for Swindon in the BL, we did quite a lot of traveling then but enjoyed every minute of it, that time was some of my happiest times in Speedway, everybody liked Bob
