What Would You Change In Speedway Next Season?
topsoil replied to 4thbender's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
The good work which has been done over the past few years has now started to show fruition. Look at Tom Brennan, Kyle Bickley, Jordan Jenkins who have come through this season. Drew Kemp and Jason Edwards will come through next season. Fantastic work. Hopefully even more in the pipeline. It would be great to expand numbers and give the set up as much help as possible. My own wish is that every team would have some sort of junior team, NJL, MDL, SJL type and a junior meeting would take place after every meeting, even if it meant racing against the same team on a few occasions, because it would probably have to be regionalised to cut down on costs. The more track time young riders get the better. And you would be surprised at how many fans actually stay behind to watch the yongsters. -
A team is for life, not just for Xmas

Meetings are what you make them. I can only speak for the group that I go with, but in between races we talk, have a laugh and make each meeting a social event, rather than just a speedway meeting. If you are not having a good time at a meeting I reckon that says more about you as a person, rather than the actual entertainment on show.

I just see what weekly competitive team racing has done for other riders who have come through the NJL and think this is what they need to progress, far better than the odd after meeting practice. -
Championship Rider Final 24/09

Got it in one. I can understand fans are frustrated at having to miss one or the other, but speedway as a whole has suffered too long from people in positions of power looking after their own interests rather than the sport as a whole. As regards the re-arranged date, I can imagine it would be a nightmare trying to find a date to suit all the riders / clubs, without even having to take into consideration end of season parties, family gatherings, weddings etc. -

Would be good to see these NJL riders taking the next step. I would like to see Keiron Douglas getting the chance of a National League number 7 spot. Luke Harrison is a great prospect for his age. You can already see him attacking the corners. Hopefully the training track will give all the youngsters more laps and bring them on even more. -

Really did not see that one coming, but what a great finish to the season. Helped by some machinery troubles for Tigers and Steve Worrall having one of his poorer visits to Berwick. Great finish to the season over the past couple of months. Fun and games afterwards, you can tell this team and promotion are close. Now the silly season begins and the debate about who signs on for next year. Just pleased there is no uncertainty over the winter, unlike the past few years. Really enjoyed this season, despite finishing bottom. Racing, presentation, forward looking promotion, all been better this season. Not long now until next March. -

Very tough ask for Berwick tomorrow night. Sheffield are the form team in the league at the moment and won quite handily when they were up earlier in the season. Add to that Berwick are weakened considerably with the guests, Nick and Jye have been two big scorers in the recent good run. I know Josh Grajczonek is missing as well but Steve Worrall is a handy replacement, usually goes well around Shielfield. Jan Gravesen could be a key man, scoring well at reserve. Would be great too finish off the season with a win but I can only see an an away win tomorrow night. Either way, looking forward to it. -

Two world titles compared to never even close to one suggests Chris Harris is not a better rider. Harris is entertainment, yes, I really like watching him racing. But as good as Woffinden? Not even close. -

First time we have had a proper number one or a few years now, agree it's important to have one. -

Been great to see him riding for Berwick this season. Can't see him being back next season unless it's in a doubling up situation. Been a proper number 1. -

Nigh on impossible to tell what is going to happen next year, one league? two?, ban on doubling up? average limits, etc. Can't really plan for a team until you get a decent idea what's going on. -

I will be the first to admit that neither David Howe or Jye Etheridgemade me think 'wow' when we signed them, but so glad they proved me wrong. Glad to have either and hopefully both back in 2018. -

It's a Berwick v Edinburgh double bill today. Should be another good meeting tonight, gutted to be missing it, inconsiderate family members having birthday parties. Edinburgh won a close one at the start of the season and I can see this one being tight as well. Pity about Masters missing, but I'm sure they will get a decent replacement. Can Berwick keep the good run of form going and finish off the season well? Josh Pickering was a revelation in the first meeting, interesting to see how he goes. Could be a key to the outcome. Edinburgh always bring a good following, so should be a good atmosphere tonight. Rangers to beat Edinburgh City comfortably this afternoon, a tight one tonight, could go either way, but can't see there being more than 4 points in it. -
How Many Of Us Are Losing Interest.?
topsoil replied to Sidney the robin's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Not losing interest in the slightest. For me the racing has been better this season and it's still a good night out and a laugh with mates. But then again I don't get hung up on guests, r/r, doubling up, tactical rides, I want to see good racing and enjoy myself, which I do. -

60-32. We may have improved lately, but all the meetings have been at home. On our travels I think we will still struggle, especially up against the like of King and Schlein. -
Just add Woffy / British to the conversation, light the blue touch paper and stand back :-)
