Birmingham Brummies 2020
stevebrum replied to ProudtobeaBrummie's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I’m assuming that’s why the thread on discussions was closed down as until someone is proven guilty it’s a very dangerous ground to leave open. Maybe wait until the May verdict until commenting on the case has been heard. -

Unfortunately some really do believe one offence is worse than the other named rider, hence the ridiculous personal attacks that ensure threads get closed down. Ward was very lucky to get a second chance (quite possibly 3rd or 4th!) so I fail to see why JG wouldn’t get the same. Saying that one rider was a potential world champion so deserved the chance is about as blinkered as it gets. There is no difference between the 2 riders as far as guilty and appalling behaviour . JG will rightly get boos and abuse if he decides to make Speedway a career again. I remember Ward getting booed at home matches I attended when Swindon were in town when his ban ended. Some people will let those riders know exactly what they think. Nobody on here should be defending the behaviours of either rider imho. -

Garrity has the one conviction (it’s suspect whether either had more) also. I’d say stupidity played a part for both riders. Plenty of undercurrent activity for Ward such as his involvement/none involvement in the case that won’t be mentioned, the mysterious head injury prior to the night of the PO final for Poole (supposedly due to a fight). I guess the question of when does stupidity become more dangerous behaviour? Anyway I’m assuming we shouldn’t be discussing the case or any other cases so let’s try keep it a low key discussion. I think neither character are the brightest tools in the Speedway world. -

I’d imagine IF the season was running the press release may have been different. However I still think it would include the line ‘we will not be making any further comment’. Some people quickly forget when something like this happens. Ward abused chance after chance and must rank as one of the worst regular offenders but some people forgave or forgot because of how good he naturally was on a bike. Garrity should be treated no different as it was no worse than Ward’s involvements back then. No doubt the moral police will continue to attack Garrity and defend Ward in equal measures because time elapsed. Just to be clear I am in no way defending the behaviour of any one of the individuals. -

I fail to see what purpose it would do given the season has no chance of starting before the court date. Birmingham have already issued a statement, and its true there is nothing else to add. -
British Speedway to be reborn?
stevebrum replied to Theboss's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
IF Speedway came back I’m sure it would be top flight with an overwhelming majority. I’m sure fans attending regular would have been happy with a level above if still running. -

Like I said no stats and either one of us could be right. no doubt some meetings and seasons Cradley might have done slightly better attendance wise but I doubt as a general tho. -

Never seen such dedication and probably Cradley Speedway is the one thing that even today unites Cradley folk. I seriously hope one day it’s possible that you guys get your own place. I don’t think any region of the sport deserves it more. -

stevebrum replied to Theboss's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
No figures to back that theory up, and I’ve read that comment before. I’ve been to both nights and whilst Cradley had great attendances they were no way ‘better’ crowds. Cradley in their own stadium would hands down top any attendance figure imho. Plenty of Cradley fans won’t go to Wolverhampton to support Cradley which just goes to show how dedicated their fans are if they were ever able to come back on their own. If all teams had fans like Cradley ones the sport would be in a healthy place. Although I’m baulking at the idea that any general speedway fan has the displeasure to admit being from Cradley. -
Lee Kilby has done fixture lists for a May/June or July return. The first 2 he reckons we could still get a full season with cooperation from all promoters. The July return would be trickier and probably involve 1 home and away league fixture. At least the BSPA seem to have contingency plans.

What an insightful post that you have randomly hand picked. I assume you yourself have done your homework on the virus versus generally expected expectations? You do know that on average over a thousand people die on any given day in the UK? (It was 1400 in 2019 btw) You do know that an average of 17,000 die every year from flu in the UK with a high of over 28,000 in 2014/15 and a low of just under 1700 in 2019? Published by Public Health England btw. Those figures may suggest the high figures was before the current vaccine was successful. There are lots of stats out there if you want to educate yourself. I’m assuming you have done the same. Covid19 still has “flu like symptoms” and no one can deny the severity of the virus. Nearly 80,000 have had and recovered from the virus to put the risk factor into context. Its a serious virus that NO ONE should take lightly anymore. And lockdown is now the only way of slowing it. Until they find a vaccine this will still be a killer. Just like SARS and Flu before it. Id love to hear your take on the stats and information shared and those you have clearly seen yourself. Replies without personal insults would be appreciated.

Lambert to comeback stronger.?
stevebrum replied to Sidney the robin's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
He is what 21/22 and has achieved a lot in his career already. I can’t believe anyone would say he has reached his peak. So long as he takes the chances offered to him and makes the most of trying to break thru in the Polish league I’d like to think there is plenty more to come. The trouble being of course is that he has been thrust onto the world stage pretty early in his career so that’s always going to be hard to top. I see no reason why he won’t continue growing as a sportsperson. -
The good thing is that some teams are still allowed to official practice then.
-
I don’t believe an ambulance is required for a practice session.
-
I know you have to have access to medical cover (via 999 I’d imagine) for practise and amateur meetings even amateur practise. Wether that would even be allowed to happen I’d say is highly unlikely. id imagine ‘organised’ racing would have to have St Johns.

Will the premiership start on time?

It’s what we all expected despite the lone mouthpiece of the forum thinking they were the only one that knew. -

Which just goes to show they had already made the decision last week if they are letting riders leave the country. As always the authorities assume the public are stupid. -

Yes apparently so, but there are other teams affected. Birmingham have 2 Italians in their team who I believe aren’t here either. -

We all know your true colours however. If I’m so ‘selfish’ why was I shopping for elderly and vulnerable today to get them some essentials they desperately need that the greedy are taking for themselves? know nothing, know nothing , know nothing. -

stevebrum replied to tellboy's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
What utter codswallop and you know it. Unless they have relatives who are elderly and vulnerable they don’t ‘need caring for’. The riders must have been told they won’t be racing for their clubs till at least April which begs the question why aren’t the fans being told this instead of this secrecy of a meeting tomorrow that will update fans on the current situation. By all accounts we all know the season isn’t starting this week if riders are being allowed to isolate so this isn’t going to be any new news. Most people will have guessed all this anyway, even you. -

If the riders have been told then why not just tell the fans too? There should be no cloud of mystery -

I can’t see many businesses allowing staff to self isolate in a different country. Although of course they are self employed. Just doesn’t sit right with when you have work waiting to start in a matter of weeks. -

Why they can’t self isolate in the country they are working in is beyond me tho.
