Joe had gone British League in 1977. Bear in mind the points limit was way higher. I'm sure the Diamonds had three 10+ riders in 1976.

Maybe he enjoyed the team spirit in the Diamonds camp?

Once went to an NHRA drag racing event at the Las Vegas Motorspeedway. Boy, do those guys know how to put on a show!!

Actually, club supporters do get excited over a new sponsor, ususally because it means more money pumped into the club to buy new players or fund stadium improvements. Not that any stadium improvemnts are needed in speedway of course..

Young people do. Just think of the excitement on here if PG Tips and Werther's Originals had sponsored speedway.

I can't believe some people are being negative about a major global brand being brought into the sport. People, we HAVE to get young men interested in speedway again or it is going to die. It is a shame for those who think George Formby is cool but it HAS to happen.

The spectacle is still there but there are so many other things for young people to do, When speedway was attracting tens of thousands there was not recordable TV and DVD's or computer games which so obsess the young. Shopping was not a leisure activity and you had to go 'somewhere' to meet your friends and talk to them (hey, why not the speedway or the pub - no coincidence both are dying and mainly frequented by men over 45). These days they are in 100% contact and their meeting places are on-line. If speedway is to grow then it has to embrace this societal changes. People expect discounts and free stuff and they expect it via emial, Why does the BSPA not sponsor a Groupon voucher for free entry to the local speedway? ANd here is one to shock you, having discussed what they look for when searching youtube for motorsport, the words 'crash' and 'fatal' are most often used. By the way, fatal does not mean a death to todays kids, it means cool. Is there anyone under the age of 25 looking at ways of promoting speedway to their own generation? We see clubs lauded for putting an advert on the side of a bus. Better than nothing but not where young people look for sources of entertainment. Today's tie up with Monster Energy drinks for the SGP is a good one and more needs to be done along those lines. Get 'cool' brands associated with the sport. It might make us old 'uns feel a bit uncomfortable but if we don't the sport will die.

Hopefully he can get back to full racing fitness and give the young lads some gating tips. He really should be in the PL and I'm sure he will be later in the season. Good luck Jason.

He has the raw talent and speed. He needs the breaks now. All I know for sure is that I love watching the lad race a speedway bike. He is box office and I don't understand people who want to knock him. I pay my money to watch racing, not gating. I pay my money to watch the likes of Ward, Holder and at our level, Robbo and Rene Bach because they are exciting and will attempt manoeuvres that others bottle out of.

Certainly as good a 16 year old as I've ever seen. He never seemed to be fully fit in the last few years of his career and I don't think he reached the heights he might have done.
