  1. Steve was also part of the track staff at Arena Essex. I would imagine he would no longer be welcome on anybody's track staff after that sting.
  2. Oxford is sometimes referred to as the city of dreaming spires.
  3. I imagine the same as happens when a woman marries and takes her husband's name. New cards issued when the name is legally changed.
  4. Tommy Knudsen only rode for Coventry I believe.
  5. You're needlessly slagging off his son. That makes it his business. Adam may not be your favorite rider but you are being incredibly unpleasant about it. The man already won this title once. Show some respect.
  6. I was always amused by Wally referring to the person in last place as "pegged backattheback" with those last four words all tumbling at as one.
  7. Well that was only my second meeting of the season and it was very good. However, what I really wanted to say is a well done to the stewards and medical staff. I was literally standing next to the unfortunate gentleman who was injured. He feinted and hit his head on the ground very hard indeed inflicting a nasty wound. The response from stewards and medics was rapid and professional and deserves praise. Thankfully the gentleman was lucid and talking when they took him to the ambulance so hopefully no major damage done. Well done all at Oxford.
  8. His decision in 2018 to force Lakeside and Workington to cancel established fixtures and then run on off nights (so he could have a better choice of guests) did huge financial damage to both clubs who both folded at the end of that season despite being in all the cup finals and in Worky's case winning a treble.
  9. There appears to be some kind of information missing as there is no indication of how to even begin.
  10. Thank you for the correction. It was a long time ago so I'm not surprised I got the detail wrong!
  11. I think I saw PC race Kevin Keegan among others on a bicycle on Superstars? Or did I imagine that? Speedway can only dream of that level of mainstream exposure these days. As for the business with the book signing, I think it's all such a shame. He hasn't behaved well and people are rightly angry about it. However, it's hardly in the same league as what Kenny Carter did and people still think it's okay to laud Carter's achievements as a racer. Likewise we can still appreciate what Peter Collins did on track.
  12. The local MP is trying to get housing developed on the Arena Essex site, even asking about it at PMQs a few weeks ago.
  13. The MP for Thurrock asked a question about the Arena at PMQs this week. She wanted to know if the PM could help the local authority build 2500 new houses on the site. Apparently there is an issue with Highways Agency objections around the impact on the M25 junction. She stated that the development is ready to go.
  14. I stand corrected I didn't know there had been more than one Canadian at Hackney. Never too old to learn something new!
  15. There was indeed. Shawn Venables was his name. No relation to El Tel I assume.
  16. What a fantastic meeting! Wembley 81 was a stunning atmosphere, with massive stakes and two fantastic races. A truly memorable occasion. Tonight had many more great races, on a hugely better race track. Thank you to both teams for a brilliant evening of entertainment. THIS is why we love speedway.
  17. What awful news. Alan Grahame was my absolute favorite rider during my teenage years attending Cradley every week. Despite the world class superstars he was teammates with, Al was the man for me. Never let the team down. Always gave it everything. I only recently watched the terrific interview he did on You Tube with Lee Kilby and was reminded what a great guy he was. RIP Big Al.
  18. I only had the pleasure of speaking to Colin a handful of times, but he was always a very approachable lovely man. A genuine legend in the sport. Condolences to his loved ones. RIP.
  19. The only motor sport interests listed are the owners of the likes of Silverstone and Goodwood. No speedway included as far as I can tell.
  20. It's legal to put whatever clauses you like in your contract, the riders are not forced to agree; they can choose not to sign and ride elsewhere. Of course, realistically if they want to make any money they don't have any other viable options. So whilst not illegal, it might be immoral.
  21. Some awesome riders discussed here, but I can't believe nobody has mentioned Erik Gundersen. Three titles, and who knows if he would have taken more but for his career ending accident. A wonderful rider, and an incredibly nice guy too.
  22. Which number issue do I need to dig out for that?
  23. After the way he beat Olsen and Knudsen that night, does anyone really think Penhall would have needed help to beat Stancl? I was more concerned that Carter would try to knock Bruce off his bike, and judging by the way he let Kenny go away from him for the win, Bruce was too.
