  1. Villa Park opened in 1897 speedway at the current Perry Barr venue started in 1929. The problem Birmingham speedway has, is that it in 2006 they agreeing to regulations that are not controllable. I was under the impression that meetings should end by 10 pm, the semi final went on way past 10pm, Also I believed only certain days of the week could be designated as race nights I don’t remember Tuesday every being one of those days. Hopefully the fact that the plays off’'s contiuned after 10pm and then on a Tuesday shows there is some flexibility in the regulations and the council are happy to play along. So a few air horns in what was the grand finale isn’t going to cause a major issue.
  2. A friend of mine who is not a speedway fan but lives in a part of Perry Barr were they objected a lot about the noise. Said to me a few weeks ago that they don’t really hear the bikes racing much “it’s the d!ck on the microphone they can hear” which is rather odd as there are parts of the stadium (4th bend) were you can't hear anything from him, By the way what happened to the trees that were supposed to be planting along the river bank to cushion the noise? I paid £60 for 3 trees did they ever grow?
  3. I had hoped to be there on Monday even booked some holiday off work to get to the meeting but the weather put pay to that. I couldn’t get there last night due to work but I have just watched the meeting this morning after recording it. Congratulations to the Pirates a rather apt nickname as they did rather steal the title but everyone knows the rules at the start off the season and I was there in 2010 jumping around when Coventry came from nowhere to take the title from Poole, so what goes around comes around. And I’m sure nearly all; if not all speedway fans are happy when Greg wins a trophy. I thought last night was a decent meeting given the track conditions and any new fans watching would have enjoyed it. Auty in heat 8 spectacular overtaking and as much as we don’t want to see riders injured new fans can be attracted by crashes and there was a few last night (sorry but crashes do sell the sport). As for the stick Matt Ford gets I have to disagree with a lot of it. I think he is a fantastic promoter, he has a great team, racing in the best stadium with the biggest support, if only there were a few more like him in British speedway it would be much stronger. And if he can get the best for his team when it comes to rule changes then good on him others should be equally as strong. As for the air horn issues, it’s not right that Mr Buck got abuse but come on its the grand final honestly did you think fans of either side would not make as noise as is possible and I guess most Poole fans were unaware of the no air horn policy. My commiserations to the Birmingham fans I just hope your back again next year and hopefully in the top flight, It would be nice if Birmingham or any future winners of the league are awarded something to show for their efforts maybe a pendant they could fly outside their stadium as they do in county cricket. But questions have to be asked about Birmingham’s strength when it matters? How many times have Birmingham failed in big matches since they returned, be it play off’s or cup finals apart the Wolves victories a couple of weeks ago I can’t remember them winning any crucial meeting either home or away.
  4. f You have my deepest condolences “Nottingham a city celebrating armed robbery for over 400 years”
  5. what ever happened to that big hair drying thing they used a few years ago?
  6. The forecast is looking a little better, maybe the track staff can work their magic, it might mean a delay in the start of the meeting and possible Poole might not be happy with the track, but I’m sure 10 heats can be run before the curfew. With Birmingham’s home advantage and Poole being a little put off by the track I predict a run off 4-2's before the meeting is called off after 10 heats at 40-20 I can’t see how that would cause any controversy.
  7. I'm not up to date on what Birmingham riders have been doing since last monday but i guess some may not have riden anywhere thats a long time for a speedway rider. It was lack of track action that led to the practice session earlier in the year and if nothing else it could have been a good team bonding exercise and help blow away the memories of last Monday Does anyone know if the covers are being used? can’t see any mention on Birmingham's website.
  8. I guess the weather may have put pay to any idea of this, but with Birmingham not having a home meeting in the past 7 days i wonder if they had planned to do a behind closed doors practice today. I know they did it earlier in the season.
  9. I'm sure theres plenty of English in Bristol, Birth place of the last English born world champion ; #2004 2006 2009 Good to hear things went well in the practice.
  10. Can't be, its a well know historical fact that anywhere north of Derby isn't truly England. Good lucky to Tai.
  11. Why crash a website just before a main event, most people would have made plans to go the event days before only lardies stuck at home behind there computer would visit the site just before the event, i doubt anyone accessing the site much after 5pm was going to attend anyway.
  12. agreed, If its true has, has been pointed out elsewhere, that the server was about to crash due to the immense amount of people wishing to gain information about the plays off, surely this confirms that British speedway is indeed, very very popular, but sadly only with lardies who sit in front of the computer and never actually attend. Also if the system was about crash why not temporally take down every team not involved in the plays off rather than the teams involved in the plays offs. I'm not a great believer in conspiracy theorys as to be honest I don't believe the people involved have the intelligence to hatch such an idea, most likely what has happened is some office cleaner somewhere unplugged a computer as they needed to plug in there Hoover
  13. I get your point but its a bit of a leap of faith to compare the second leg of a domestic speedway semi - final with the European football champions league final.
  14. Interesting post that, I hope you know what your talking about or have a very good legal team to support your claims or maybe you have very deep pockets full of unwanted money, either way I wish you luck with your brave statement. edit due to typo
  15. They must have payed the bills now, as the website is working for me, allbeit with no meantion of last nights result ? Just looked at the fixtures and result page they haven't even got last weeks score up on there yet ?
  16. Yes, I seem to have got my popular pubs mixed up a popular actress. Although I did read in last month’s empire magazine that Reese was looking forward to the play offs “and hoped Wolverhampton and Poole would make the final, with Poole now signing Greg Hancock and Ricky Wells being at Wolves it would be great to see to Americans in the English play off final” she is reported to have said. The quote is on page 46 just after the article headlined “Terry Russell to play the next Bond villain”.
  17. I’ve heard rumours but only rumours so I don’t know if it’s true, but due to the cultural significance of this event to the local area of Birmingham, the club, the stadium owners, the local councillors and indeed the whole of Birmingham city council have agreed to allow fans to bring along French horns, vuvuzelas, kazoos, oboe’s, saxophones and stylophones to make as much noise as is possible. I believe it is rumoured one councillor was quoted as saying ”we can’t allow air horns, but we do hope to make this play off like the Handsworth carnival, gay pride, St Patricks day, diwali and eid all rolled into one joy filled evening” Also on hearing last night’s result, sources close to Perry Barr MP Khalid Mahmood are believed to have overheard him shouting” let’s just party” and unconfirmed reports say he then went on to sing “throw your hands in the air like you just don’t care”. It is believed that Witherspoon's are to change the name of their pub in the one stop shopping centre from the Arthur Robertson to the Arthur Browning as a nod to Birmingham success. At present the T on top of the BT tower in the city centre is being removed simply leaving the letter B The Birmingham post and mail building are going to change the colour of their famous FORT DUNLOP sign to red and yellow. Along with that, FREE radio who took the licence from legendary radio station BRMB are once again to broadcast as BRMB this time with the tag line “Brummies Really Mean Business”. Whereas local BBC station Radio WM has countered this by announcing for the next week it will broadcast as Radio WolverhaMpton. I cannot confirm or deny if any of this is true or not, so please don’t believe it. For all the true Birmingham fans that stayed loyal from the 80’s (unlike me) and for the new generation of fans from 2007 I really hope the team makes it happen for you.
  18. The last time Birmingham raced an opening night at a new stadium was in 1984 it was junior team tournament I guess there were about 800 to a 1000 in attendance
  19. i voted for birmingham and wolverhampton to be the two teams to make the final
  20. Have to say excellent coverage by speedwaytv and great commentary by Dave Rowe. Thanks
  21. just how much extra do they charge to sit on the home straight stand? the stadium seems full, apart from the home straight # cheapskate supporters
