Riga Gp Tickets 2014
racers and royals replied to James 12345's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Happy to try and help on a couple of points-firstly Latvia is 2 hours ahead of the uk at present and probably in August still 2 hrs ahead. Ryanair,Wizzair and Air Baltic are likely to have the cheapest flights from the UK(obviously don`t know in which part of the country you are living. On all my foreign GP trips I use booking.com for hotels. From the info on the GP website the Riga stadium appears not to be to far out of the city. -
You are indeed correct in his age-I took 2 years off my age instead of adding 2 years !!

It depends how you want to get around and which airport you fly into-Bydgoszcz is nearest airport and the airport bus goes to the main station from where one can get a train to Torun.Poznan is an alternative-much the same airport bus to station and train to Torun. Stadium in Torun is situated about 4 miles from the city centre on the Bydgoszcz road-good tram service from town centre and stadium ticket holders can normally use the trams for free after 2pm on the Saturday.I like driving abroad so always hire a car-cheap in Poland-and I normally fly into Poznan(Torun is about 2 hours away)

From today`s Racing Post website-if the stocks are out -then surely speedway would go with it. Derby would stay at Plough Lane: Feltham By Jim Cremin 3:35PM 18 JAN 2014 WITH the vital hearing into the future of Wimbledon taking place next week, GRA managing director Clive Feltham on Friday said the Derby will stay at Plough Lane should Galliard Homes be rebuffed, and that his group would effectively give up the rights to the Classic if Paschal Taggart’s greyhound plan prevails. Feltham, who will not be attending the planning inspector’s hearing, said. “Obviously we’ll keep a watching brief, but it is really a matter for Galliard, who own the site. We are just the tenants, and have a three-year lease agreed last summer to promote greyhound racing there. “Crowds remain good, and it’s quite possible that things will drag on, and we’ll stay in place for longer – but our long-term interest is Belle Vue, Hall Green and Perry Barr. We wish Paschal well and hope he is successful – why wouldn’t we? It would be good for greyhound racing, which is our business. London deserves a greyhound track, and Wimbledon is the home of the Derby. That will stay there if Paschal succeeds.” We Want Wimbledon campaigner Diane McLean reiterated that the local residents do not want a football stadium, citing the Wimbledon Park Residents Association website which, ahead of the Government two-day planning hearing (starts at Merton’s Morden Town Hall at 10am on Wednesday), carries strident criticism. On it, Iain Simpson, chairman of the Association, says: “There are two developers who have made proposals. Paschal Taggart, a well-known personality in Irish greyhound circles, who wishes to build a new greyhound stadium which would accommodate a maximum of 4,500 spectators, 400 residential units and a supermarket. They have indicated that they would no longer have stock car racing. “On the other hand, AFC Wimbledon and GRA Ltd propose to build a 20,000-seater football stadium for AFC Wimbledon, 600 residential units, 6-10 stories high, and a retail space. “We do not regard the building of a stadium with such a large capacity to be consistent with the very restricted public transport and we consider that the building of a large number of residential units is not compatible with the flood risk. “While we do not have any fundamental objection to AFC Wimbledon aspiring to a new ground in the borough we do not think the greyhound stadium is a suitable site. “The impact of large crowds, 10,000-20,000, which is the number planned, would be very considerable and has the potential to blight Wimbledon Park Ward, which has two main transport hubs: Wimbledon Park Tube station and Haydons Road Railway station.” McLean added: “The flood plain is an issue, and you need to allow/keep land to help deal with it. Our plan does, Galliard’s doesn’t. “We will increase the development footprint by just 12.5 per cent. The Galliard plan works out at 155 per cent.” The Wimbledon hearing, which is open to the public, is expected to run Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd January at Morden Town Hall (across road from Morden Underground), starting 10am.

Racing Post article today By Jim Cremin 3:38PM 11 JAN 2014 IRELAND’S National Asset Management Agency (Nama) has stunned greyhound supporters by backing the plans put forward by Galliard and appearing to rubbish the alternative Paschal Taggart-led vision for a new world-class greyhound stadium. Mark Pollard, senior asset manager at Nama, in a December 11 letter to Planning Inspector Robert Yuile released under disclosure rules to interested parties, describes “speculative third party approaches”. “All such approaches are given due consideration,” he writes, “but in this case are not being progressed. None of these ‘alternatives’ are from as strong and experienced a home builder in Galliard Homes nor offer the deliverability of the sporting facilities.” He added: “Nama hold the loan advanced to the stadium owners GRA (Galliard),” and says the Galliard proposal is “viable, deliverable and most beneficial to the area through its regeneration with primarily sport and residential uses. The proposal does not require any third party land holding or co-operation and can thus be implemented in the short term.” Such support from Nama is potentially seriously damaging with the planning inquiry due to open on Wednesday week at Merton Town Hall in Morden. Indeed, Diane McLean, the greyhound owner and barrister leading the We Want Wimbledon campaign, on Friday expressed her astonishment at the letter and says she has immediately written to Pollard, sending copies of her response to Irish government ministers and other interested parties. McLean questions whether it is appropriate for a governmental institution such as Nama to lobby another country’s governmental body in charge of an independent review, and highlights Taggart’s track record and the ferocious opposition from residents to a football stadium. She points to the support from the Mayor of London for greyhounds and the excellent performance of the existing greyhound operation despite it being so “run down”, and stresses that funding is in place for the new stadium, stating: “Unlike a 20,000 capacity football stadium, [it] will require minimal changes to planning. I am therefore very puzzled as to why Nama has not given any due consideration to these plans. This must surely be contrary to the best interests of the Irish taxpayer?” She underlines that Taggart’s plans have been on record with Merton Council and the Mayor’s office since last February unlike the “speculative” plans of AFC Wimbledon and Galliard Homes, which only came to fruition last month. McLean went on: “Perhaps of equal significance is the fact that an Irish governmental department, set up for the benefit of the Irish taxpayer, should wish to be party to extinguishing a valuable, and cultural, part of the Irish economy. “The Irish greyhound industry is worth €500m to the national economy of Ireland and supports approximately 10,300 full-time and part-time jobs. Furthermore, the industry generates a gross wage bill of €207m per annum and the tax contribution from this employment is estimated at €21m. “The Irish greyhound industry has a very high reputation internationally and has an acknowledged pre-eminence for greyhound breeding. Has Nama not considered the long-term economic effect to Ireland should it be party to closing the last remaining greyhound stadium in London?” McLean added on Friday: “Paschal has always seen this as being about the future of the Irish and British greyhound industry, and it beggars belief that an official Irish department could take such potentially destructive action. “On the other hand, we have been buoyed by the decision of Oxford City Council on Wednesday to turn down the Galliard scheme there, and the hard work going on there, with real Parliamentary and local support, is something we can replicate for Wimbledon. “I call on Nama to reconsider their position. We are happy to meet with Mr Pollard and other officials there, and for all greyhound fans not to lose the faith. We can and will win this battle.”
