Yep, British Speedway can only dream of the entertainment, the size of the crowds, the police presence at stadiums and the fan violence that the Ekstraliga experience on a regular basis.
-
Plum. Whenever Greg does decide to hang up his kevlars, he'll be able to look back on his career and see World Champion etched next to his name in the record books, which is more than Nicholls will ever be able to do.

Lezaw, young Poles can (and do) ride with the best in the EL over here.... well until their Polish clubs demand they return home & improve their scoring in Poland before they are allowed to return. There just seems to be many more prospects coming out of Poland but the PZM seem to be their own worst enemy in holding back these youngsters progressing naturally. btw. I think Woffinden has decided he's an aussie and not a Brit, so that's another one off our list.
-
That may be true in some cases, but we're still more likely to see a Pole become world champion before we see another Brit lift the trophy.

Was there in 2004 as well Rob, got so p!ssed waiting for the meeting to start on that lovely pivo I can't actually remember a thing about it, do remember the atmosphere was great though even though we'd been stood or dancing about for hours, Had to phone home the next day to find out who the winner was. It absolutely chucked it down that day and they still got the meeting on, 'bit' of rain shouldn't cause too many problems on Saturday. Edit. Vectra - there never used to be a charge to get in to practice.

World Cup At Coventry
Wackie replied to Gemini's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Is that an opinion? Must make mental note to change my Avatar to a Polish flag should the Ruskies not get through on Thursday. -
World Cup At Coventry
Wackie replied to Gemini's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
In which case why are people getting so het up about which nation someone's supporting or which avatar they are sporting? Afraid the days of having a laugh seem long gone on this forum. -

World Cup At Coventry
Wackie replied to Gemini's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Don't get all this patriotic stuff with speedway. My speedway hero was a swede in the 80's & a Swede in the 90's. When it came to world finals or anything else that Jan Andersson or Per Jonsson was involved in then it was that team who got my support. Club generally does come before country in speedway where supporters are concerned. I'd like to see the Brits do well on Saturday, but I like to see exciting racing even more and if that comes from a Swede, a Pole or a Ruskie then I'll cheer them on. I was changing support for nations with every race last night. Speedway fans have always been the same, I remember as a kid going to Ullevi for the 1980 WF and being stuck on a boat for hours with a group of very tedious Coventry fans (funny how things go full circle ) who were there not to support Michael Lee (neither was I tho) but Tommy Knudsen, all decked out in their Danish flags. These days there's supporting the Brits because of Bommer & Nicholls. -
Stand Tall Team Gb
Wackie replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Yep, well done Team GB, job done. Can't see Kennet and Stead being able to contain the Poles & Danes on Saturday though. C'mon the Ruskie's though - how entertaining were they? Every EL team should have one. -
World Cup - Vojens Sat 14 July
Wackie replied to Mad Mitch's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Vojens generally is slick as it's a homer for Olsen, but he needs to leave the track prep at Coventry & Leszno to the blokes who do it week in week out. They are the experts there and they are the ones who know how best to prepare it suitable for RACING. Sorry, but the weather is a poor excuse in this instance. Remeber the world final in Wroclaw 1992, the track was absolutely flooded mid-meeting by a huge storm, the poles called in the fire brigade once the rain stopped, pumped off the water & re-graded/re-laid the track to allow the meeting to continue with decent racing. A GP in Sweden more recently also springs to mind - they re-laid the track prior to the meeting using hot shale to combat the damage the weather had done to it. After a few heats when the track had bedded in, I see to remember that being a good 'un too. As for Jan Staechmans comment re the Smallmead track for the race-off last year - who was responsible for the track prep that night as well? If last night is the best Olsen can do trackwise for such a high profile meeting he should stick to dancing in future. -
World Cup - Vojens Sat 14 July

Hmm, hadn't noticed that before you mentioned it. Big boys won't ride Sheffield without one, but are quite happy to ride at Vojens. Another observation...... no grip. -
Speedway Is Reaching ... Malaysia!
Wackie replied to miik-miik's topic in International World of Speedway
Asked my Malaysian friend to translate and yep, it pretty much says that Malaysia also hope to become the hosts of the International SGP in either 2009 0r 2010. Can tell you now, a SGP in KL would p!ss all over Cardiff experience . -
For Our Entertainment!
Wackie replied to AmberCelt's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Yeah but you love your "cheese" don't ya Chivs! -
Looks like crowds are down all over Sweden. Noticed in the Speedway Star last week that one of the lower division (2nd I think) Swedish teams had a grand total of 40 supporters turn up to watch

Oh & Havvy wouldn't dream of making a sarcastic comment, have biased views or make a joke of a situation would he.
-
Personally I think Paulco is along the right lines with his idea of a diagnosis.
-
Oh lighten up, thought it was quite quick witted & amusing myself.
-
Did Andersen a fat lot of good in the end though didn't it. He who laughs last.....
-
Those odds changed a bit from yesterday. He was 33/1 this morning, but 25/1 last night. Can't moan though i still had a nice little earner.
-
Nice one Andrea's, you just made me a good few quid.
-
My money'd be on Pedersen Paulco, Hans apparently has sore wrists! Nice touch that the riders are sporting black armbands out of respect for Kenny Olsson.
-
It's a GP Shawn not our EL, can you see the likes of Andersen & Pedersen riding cautiously!!
-
As much as I'd love to see him carry on the GP form he's started with, I don't think this is going to be a track Bomber enjoys. Final line up. Crump N Pedersen Hancock Andersen

More very sad news, condolences to Kenny's family & friends. The sport carries a very high price when things do go wrong for these riders who we love to watch race. RIP Kenny.
