Swedish Elitserien 2017 Round 2

Great view of the pits!! -
They weren't fans of kebabs either?
-
That's the flip side, but had he turned up and been beaten legitimately by a reserve, wouldn't you have wanted to see that? Probably the only thing I remember about Havelock's WC year was him turning up at Reading and being beaten by Phil Morris from reserve. Loved it! But then Havelock was a bit of an arrogant cock too!

I know not all people who go to Cardiff are speedway fans. I've taken a couple along with me in the past for a 'day out'. Being double world champion, it's a kick in the teeth that Woffinden doesn't race in his home league. You seem to have been around speedway long enough to know what a draw a world champion can be to a domestic meeting. The chance of seeing the WC in aciton or the chance that one of your second strings, or even (and it's been known) a reserve beating the current world champion is often enough to stick a few extra people through the turnstyles who maybe would have given it a miss otherwise. More revenue for the promotions, making clubs more secure - that's just one way him not racing here could affect British Speedway.

Warsaw Gp 13th May 2017

Who's wearing leathers again SB? -
Tai isn't a universally popular World Champion here in the UK in the same way Mark Loram was, I think that's a given. His attitude, actions and words have turned people against him, whereas some people have just never liked him from the off. It certainly doesn't seem to bother him, so i'm not sure why some posters on here are getting their knickers in a twist about it so much. Did it ever transpire what this 'Massive Project' actually is?

Does make you wonder doesn't it, Riders not racing in the UK have had what, 3 - 4 competitive meetings this season in Poland & Sweden? Freddies had that plus 7 more with Wolves. I know it could be said that Holder is in the same position, but he's obviously struggling across the leagues as well as the GP's at the moment. Doyle on the other hand also seems to have hit the ground running. -

Those PJR engines don't look the rockets they've been for the past couple of seasons. -
I'm not sure he's the most unpopular British World Champion, my opinion is very much like your's on him, however I recall Mike Lee also divided opinion and remember personally being gutted as a kid when I walked out of my first world final trip abroad in 1980.

Threat To The Gp Grid Girls?
Wackie replied to a topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
He doesn't wear high heels though! -
He's started off his own thread on the subject now so that should be the end of it. At least it was bike related this time. Watched some of the stox stuff in betweeen the swedish league coverage on Tuesday - what a snoozefest! I thought it was top 15 who could keep their number?
-
The Catalan GP is all a bit weird at the moment - they've banned alcohol within the track compounds too much to the displeasure of many fans. To be honest, the grid girls don't really bother me. They're there, they're used as marketing tools but they're not overly prominent and there's plenty of other women working in the paddock so that argument is flawed. Can't remember who it was but one of the Spanish Moto GP riders had his Mum as his 'grid girl' last sunday at the Jerez GP as it was mothers day in Spain.

Decals on vans etc. would be easy to change, merchandising wise it's actually quite shrewed. All the die hard Nicki fans will buy new merchandise with his current race number on it, where as fans of riders who use the same race number each year may decide to stick with what they've got. I think the whole race number thing has been good for marketing and merchandising purposes for riders as a whole, but it nowhere near has the same impact as it does in Moto GP. Ask anyone with an slight interest in Moto GP who #46 is and they'll know, ask the casual speedway fan who #85 is and they won't have a clue!
-
I believe riders also have the choice to use their previous year GP finishing position as their race number, and that's what Nicki has done hence the change each year.

When did these 'drainage' issues on the new site spring up? Sounds like the new stadium is now going to be portacabins with a bit of poncing up.

You blaming Bob for your antics on the mic at Smallmead then?
-
Sad news, Bob was a man of integrity and for many years was a fixture at Reading Speedway in one capacity or another, His most brilliant masterstroke in my opionion was putting his reputation and job on the line when the SCB wouldn't support a work permit application for for Per Jonsson stating they didn't think he'd make the required 6 point average. Too young/not good enough they said! I think both Bob and Per enjoyed throwing that one back in their faces. R.I.P Bob, my thoughts are with his family & friends.

Tai Woffinden Dumped (on) By The Scb / Bspa
Wackie replied to uk_martin's topic in International World of Speedway
I thought he'd turned his back on Team GB this season making his thoughts quite clear previously, there must have been an ulterior motive for him to change his mind for this event - big sponsors in Wraclaw to keep happy perhaps??
