  1. Don't get the comments about it not being a good meeting. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
  2. We had to take a sabatical to give our M4 neighbours a shot at some glory Buzz. Felt it only fair that another generation or two of Robin fans got the chance to experience what it felt like to win something
  3. Sid, you were a closet Wackie! Well, suppose it made a change to support a successful title winning team
  4. I'm not sure about well mannered. I learnt quite a few new words & expressions during my childhood stood on the 3rd bend during Racers/Robin derbies. Lots of banter, but never any trouble from what I recall, well someone did throw a can at Jim Lynch when we dumped you out of the play-offs in 2006, but we'll let you off that and hope that whoever did threw it aim is better if the opportunity ever arises again.
  5. You never used to stand on the 3rd bend in the 70's/80's then RTR? Indeed, I wish the Robins well in their push for a new stadium, but with GI involved you can't help but be pessimistic. Ideally for me Swindon moving to Oxford would be great. I live in Oxfordshire and it be nice and neutral for us Racers fans to enjoy some speedway again, but I don't really want to see that happen, it's a possible outcome but not the best one for either Swindon or Oxford fans.
  6. In my opinion, honestly? No. They moved the goal posts so many times with what they wanted and were going to build, had full backing of the council and full planning permission at least twice on plans they submitted. I think the casino opening up half a mile down the road was a welcome 'get out' for them, and of course wasn't their fault!
  7. Been there, seen it, got the programme board wrapped up in moth balls I honestly can't see how a new track let alone stadium is going to be built in 5 months across a winter period. GI have form with this type of situation, and unfortunately you can only really see Swindon going a similar way. It won't be there fault of course that a new stadium isn't built, they'd have spent hundreds of thousands on planning, specs blah... blah .... blah.... blah. Sorry for the negativity, but I think the realistic Swindon fans see the situation for what it is, and what it's likely to become.
  8. Here's a little message for a few other posters particularly active on the Darcy Ward or a certain attention seeking apology thread!! https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/70791025363214190/
  9. 25 years ago we were in full celebration mode after watching a fantastic rider win a fantastic world final. Hard to believe it was a quarter of a century ago. Happy Per Jonsson Day!
  10. Maks Gregoric won't be lining up as reserve. Taken from his facebook page Short information about Maks: Yesterday he suffered a head trauma, after a track crash in italian Badia Calavena. He was transported to the hospital in the city of Trento, where he is kept in an artificial coma. His condition is currently stable and further operations aren’t necessary. All the news and other information on its status can be read on his FB site. Thank you for all the positive thoughts and we appreciate your patience. Get better soon Maks!
  11. Yeah, you're not alone there Dave! Figured out the 'Ignore' function, going to be a busy afternoon!
  12. I apologised numerous times, but still stand by my instinct that the whole KKS things didn't sit right and was abhorrent trolling. (Maybe as your post is!) The setting up of the go fund me page with a £5k target just tipped it for me and I had to say something - rightly or wrongly. Seems I wasn't the only one who felt that way, but maybe the only one with the balls to say it. The thread would have gone off topic sooner of later anyway as all threads do on here. At least it removed one of the duplicate aliases for a while, although I'm sure this KKS is still about in another guise
  13. Maybe Star Lady should create multiple accounts like some other sad individuals do on here, then there could be more like her!
  14. People probably ignore it, but there's always a disclaimer in programmes too about spectator safety with it being a dangerous sport, anyone attending a meeting accepts these without question. If there was something that could be done to improve safety further I'm sure the riders would be 'on it' with the authorities immediately. Maybe we will see a change to the silencer rule now if they honestly think it wouldl make a difference. We've seen in the GP series this year that top riders are quite willing to make a stand and challenge authority, it's possible a life changing injury to a top rider as it seem we sadly have here may change things. At the end of the day though, it's 4 blokes on 4 bikes going hell for leather round a track for 60 seconds or so, accidents are always going to happen.
  15. Likewise kbt, like I said elsewhere love him or loath him you'd never wish anything like this on any speedway rider. I think a few people are getting a little hysterical about the whole situation. It's rubbish, proper rubbish, and if I'm begin brutally honest I don't think it's going to be a good outcome (hope I am wrong, really do, but the signs aren't good.) squabbling about he said this or she said that ain't going to help anyone, let alone Darcy Ward in the days and weeks to come. Keep it real people, we're all speedway fans and nobody wanted this!
  16. On one hand you've got people saying that bikes are too fast for the tight tracks we have, but then you seem to have the most serious accidents occurring on the big wide tracks of Poland. Tracks now are probably safer than they've ever been in the UK at least. We used to have one ambulance at each meeting, no air fences, lamp posts right up by the track fence, and unforgiving solid (metal at Exeter!!) fences. It's a dangerous sport, which is probably why people enjoy it, and riders race it. Fans love fast, close racing and often bemoan when races are strung out and 'boring'. As unfortunate as any injury to a rider is, and even more so when it's life changing, I really don't think there's much more which could be done to reduce risks. There's neck braces, but it's down to the riders if they choose to wear them. How effective they'd be in crashes like Darcy Ward's I don't know. You can de-tune engines, but there'll always be riders looking for ways to get that bike to go just a little bit faster than their opponents - that's the nature of the sport. It's always more hard hitting when it's a top line rider who gets seriously injured, you think they're almost invincible, there is no reasoning, there is no solution. Unfortunately it just seems to be down to fate - wrong place, wrong time. Michael Schumacher's accident whilst sking is testament to that.
  17. Speedway riders are riding 500cc machines with no brakes in close proximity of each other, they know the risks and they accept them. There's been plenty of bad injuries or worse in the speedway in years gone by and unfortunately there'll be more in the future - it's the nature of the sport. One thing though, you rarely if ever hear a rider who has suffered a serious career ending or life changing injury blame the sport. Most of them would love nothing more than to swing their leg over a bike and do it all again.
  18. Seeing their opponents is all part of the concentration of the race, being aware and in control. In my opinion I think Tai's concentration wasn't fully on the race with KK. He wasn't fully focused but was more interested in gesticulating to him about being moved out wide than, than worrying where other riders were on track. Why not wait until the race had ended before you start remonstrating? The sport is dangerous enough as it is.
  19. But to me it shows that the riders full attention isn't on track, and more on the opponent they're gesturing at. Nothing wrong with a bit of handbags once the race has finished, But I do think that a riders concentration for the 60 second or so they're hurtling round the track should be fully on the race in hand, and not on what has happened during or before it.
  20. But then you look at the time span between Greg's first 2 titles, he's had the continuity of being a top class rider and regaining a title over a decade after he won his first. It's very hard to pick who's better than who. Generally there's always 3 or 4 riders who are dominant above all others over a period of time who are pretty evenly matched, it's not always down to who won more titles etc. as there's an element of luck in all title wins.
  21. Nope, British with a sprinkling of Irish & German. Have visited Denmark though
