Very sad news. RIP
-
Sad news and condolences to all his family. Thanks for the memories at Lakeside saw some great speedway thanks to him and stuart. RIP Jon
-
Will it definitely be 6.30 starts? I’ve not been to a meeting since the last lakeside one at arena essex, would love to get to Kent but 6.30 start would be hard to make it in time.
-
AJ was always my favourite rider I loved watching him at Lakeside especially watching him not make the start and work his way to the front normally flying around the fence. Top bloke aswell, all in all a real class act.

What happened with Bowtell? -
Anyone off to the meeting today? Good to see the Thurrock Hammers have a meeting, fingers crossed it’s just the start.

EASTBOURNE v SOMERSET 13th April

As a Lakeside fan it’s good to see Lawson doing the business, top man he is. Good luck to Eastbourne for the season. -
Feel sorry for all you Workington fans having just gone through the same thing with Lakeside shutting down I know exactly how you feel. I hope it’s not the end and you can come to tapes next season.
-
There might be no Thurrock Council debate on it so what’s the problem. They have backing from the council and the local MP. You’ve made your point the petition is worthless. Let’s move on
-
No one cares. Just sign the petition or don’t. If it doesn’t help then it doesn’t help but no harm is done by signing it.
-
Who cares? Every signature helps.
-
Maybe one day but why would anyone want to get involved in speedway now you might aswell throw your money down the drain.
-
None at all. We all know that’s it for speedway in Essex.
-
Lakeside had a meeting with the developers today who confirmed there is no plans to have a track anywhere on the current site. Bit more info on the website
-
I have no idea Iam just saying what the presenter said on the radio but Iam guessing it’s nothing to do with the safety of the riders.
-
That is right Tony, Cook said we had 7 meetings to run and we was offered 2 dates by the landlords at Arena.
-
The presenter from the radio interview with Cook last night said the BSPA wouldn’t allow Lakeside to run in the Premiership or Championship at Rye due to the poor facilities. They could have run national league though.
-
Jon Cook saying in the speedway star they made a loss of over £9000 for the Peterborough meeting which was restaged and the attendance was 211.
-
Another interview with Cook today and he said things have started to look a little better and he has a meeting with the developers next week. He is also doing another interview tonight on the radio.
-
I totally agree and for a while Lakeside did loads of different things to try and get more locals through the gates. The product needs to change to keep these new people coming back.
-
Lakeside tried hard to promote the sport to the locals.
-
Just listened to Cook on the radio who said they are still fighting to stay on the Arena Essex site due to half of the land not being suitable for houses anyway, he also said the cost of moving to Rye House cost him and Stuart a fortune and if any third party wants to help it would purely be as a fan as they would lose lots of money just to keep the hammers name going. He did say the BSPA wouldn’t let them run at Rye even if they could due to the way they fell out regarding Rye House closing. He didn’t say where but said him and Stuart will be moving onto other projects but there is two people dedicated to continuing the fight to get Lakeside back on track. Iam pretty sure he also said there is no chance of the club running for at least the next two seasons. Lastly he said what happened with Swindon was a big positive and the local Thurrock MP is good friends with the Swindon MP so hopefully that can be a big help to the hammers.
-
There will be no new track it’s never going to happen, Grays Athletic are still waiting for a new football stadium to be built 8 years later, Thurrock Council couldn’t give a toss about sport.
-
It was a one year lease with the option of a second which was not taken.
-
Didn’t the people renting the stadium have a two year lease and decided not to take up the second year due to poor crowds? Think it was more to do with the four wheeled events but Iam sure that’s what they said, they also said poor crowds at the speedway but Cook said they get the same money from them regardless of the crowd.
