National League 2021 - has it been abandoned?
gazzac replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in National League Speedway
Had to have a 'laugh' this morning, on the official BSPA website praising team GB's win and proud that all 4 riders involved came through the NDL having practically finished it off now. -
I think Peterborough were great this year, and were fabulous to watch on tv and remarkable how all of the army probably found form they hadn't had for a few seasons and just gelled into a forceful team. I just wondered if it was a pinicle that can't be repeated again especially with the older riders and maybe need to keep some of the older team but need to bring in a couple of younger riders to freshen the team and spur the likes of Nicholls on again, just a thought?
-
Slightly disappointing on the official website in the latest post congratulating team GB on their fantastic win, apart from his picture and name in the scorers, not a mention of Tom Brennen by name. Think 7 out if 8 points from his 2 rides deserved a mention, don't think we'd have qualified for the semis if he'd have scored 0,0.
-
Fingers crossed then!

I did say it with it with a smiley face and tongue in cheek, but was a jibe at the 2 leagues being too close together really. Not likely to change as the top riders won't or can't ride here, and doubling up/down will always keep it as it is now.

All good posts above, if running I'll be back, just hope the last couple of years haven't lost too many. Certainly will need a good promotion which can really promote.
-
Perhaps next year as the Premiership and Championship are more or less the same standard and use the same riders, could run one of KL or Peterborough in either league and use the same riders for both ?
-
Feel sorry for fans and riders owed money, but shows the damage done. Would have to be brave promoters to take it over to be honest.
-
On a slightly different note, so pleased to see Tom Brennen doing so well for BV and Glasgow, especially having seen him as a tiny kid and through the NL to the Championship, and Jason Edwards seems to be getting back to some form as well. Just goes to underline even if we do return in some way, what we've thrown away, sure Tom would have been our homegrown No1 in a couple of seasons, although he may have outgrown the club anyway I suppose, but can't see any of our nurtured youngsters wanting to ride for Eastie again, even if by some miracle we do return.

Belle Vue v Peterborough Panthers - Grand Final

Depends on the points limit as usual I suppose? Hopefully be enough to accommodate them and the reserves, but with the annual habit of points reduction who knows. -

Best team all season, best team in the playoffs, right result for speedway at the end of the day, champions confirmed champions. -
National League 2021 - has it been abandoned?
gazzac replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in National League Speedway
I know that people complained about it being a National League and not a National Development League, bit it did fast track the current crop of Kemp, Brennen, Palin, Flint plus others, don't think the current 'development' league if it continues will bring on anything like the quality or numbers. Seem to remember BV were fairly successful with their NL team. Whether that was right or wrong the current system certainly is wrong, hasn't enticed the likes of Buxton or the IOW into it. -

When you look at the latest posts on the Kent NL section and on this post by Sings, Mikebv etc , I just get more and more annoyed with the destruction of the NL as it was a couple of seasons ago and really was the way to go for the bulk of speedway clubs in this country. My team Eastbourne would probably still be going if that had remained at a decent level, if it's not resolved next season (NL and hopefully my team) that's my interest gone for good after having first gone in 1972, been taking my children since 1999, and they have already moved on to other things, talk about self destruction. Think I need another beer! -
Well done to Lewi Kerr, 9+1, was a great return, especially as virtually every Peterborough fan didn't want him as a guest.
-
Sounds like you live in a Sandbanks mansion?
-
I suppose with broken bones, there's no half fit, he's either fit or not. Still at least Kerr will be going into the meeting on a positive note with all the posts about him on here.

Birmingham Brummies 2020
gazzac replied to ProudtobeaBrummie's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
We (Eastbourne) did back the kids for 4/5 seasons and had a good product taken away by 2019. Had a few pretty good seasons and battles with Brum as well. The level it is at moment wouldn't make it viable for the likes of the clubs you mention I would have thought, as it's no longer a proper league really. Raise the level to pre 2019 and the above may come back, plus the IOW perhaps and you have a good sustainable league again. Whether the powers that be would allow it is another question. -
I imagine they're pretty sure MPT isn't going to be fit enough, even if Kerr gets a few points at worst r/r with the regulars should see you through. If he happens to have a better than expected meeting and gets 7/8 definitely through, but MPT doing one ride and withdrawing definitely puts pressure from race one.
-
Still means Harris , Andersen, Nicholls, Pedersen or Kerr could take r/r, still looks like a comfortable(ish) home win to me, I think better to go with Kerr than MPT unless he really thinks he can hang on to the bike, how many times have you seen a rider with that type of break/injury do one race and withdraw from the meeting.
-
That's good, (not the engine pop)its happening already for him becoming steadier with keeping the speed. Don't think anyone can imagine what it takes physically to hang onto these 500cc beasts who hasn't ridden one, and Vinnie and the riders of his age can only get stronger with age. I only saw him at Arlington so really pleased he's getting better already.

Elite Champions in 2012 and 2017 also if I remember, so pretty big over the last 9 years all things considered.

National League 2021 - has it been abandoned?
gazzac replied to old bob at herne bay's topic in National League Speedway
It was a perfect product, entertaining and brought on the likes of Brennen, Kemp, Flint, Palin, Thomas etc etc, so did a pretty good job at the development, and can't see the conveyor belt of talent continuing at that level. It was basically abandoned at the outset this year by the powers that be. -
As they say in F1, it's easier and cheaper to make a fast car reliable, than a reliable car fast. Let's hope thats a similar scenario with Foord before he hurts himself or runs out of money, calming down but keeping the speed.
