  1. I think we all know "who" cost us the title that year.....!
  2. Newcastle Diamonds will open their doors to the new 2022 campaign on Sunday April 3rd at 4pm. https://newcastle-speedway.co.uk/2021/12/08/stoke-potters-revival-for-one-night-only-in-memory-of-the-late-dave-tattum/
  3. I don't think Matty Wethers gets a reduction and he rode in the National League/Conference League, too.
  4. Broke a collarbone on 13 June 2019. Seeing as everyone missed the 2020 season, I doubt he'd get a reduction. He was also New Zealand Champion in 2020, so rode that year anyway.
  5. No Rising Stars in the Championship. But, there will be (and number 8's) in the Premiership.
  6. Taken off Facebook: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT Unfortunately, we are making the decision to cancel the upcoming Christmas Party on 10th December. With the uncertainty surrounding the new variant of Coronavirus that has recently been confirmed in the UK, we feel it is our responsibility to take the sensible approach and protect our fans and staff and unfortunately cancel the Christmas Party. All refunds for those who have already paid for their tickets will be processed over the next couple of days. Please allow us time to do this before contacting us. We understand that this may be disappointing news, but the safety of everyone at Newcastle Speedway continues to be our priority during these times. We will hopefully have another social event just after Christmas to look forward to. Thank you for your cooperation.
  7. Better ask @NSSG, they will be able to tell you better than me.
  8. Friday 10th December. Adults £10. Under 16's £5.
  9. 7.34 (7.16 with reduction), so, no, I don't think so.
  10. That was to waste a bit of time while they tried to get the lights fixed, I seem to recall. Cars on the centre green during a meeting was never going to happen.
  11. Matty + Max + James = 17.39 (without reductions). Troy Batchelor is on 8.98 = 26.37 (without the reductions). So a "reliable number 1" would come in at 9.00+, so = 35+ for the top 5. It all depends on what the decisions are at the AGM regards the top 5 (or 6) total averages and whether it's 1 or 2 Rising Stars. Only Steve Worrall (9.28), Danny King (9.22) and Scott Nicholls (9.18) are over 9.00 averages (as far as I can see!) from this years Championship.
  12. Or, clubs over-estimate how many they think they will get through the gate. Until clubs budget for the minimum of support expected, rather than hoping for more fans coming through the gates, clubs will always struggle.
  13. Think they mean the Oxford Cheetahs 2022 thread
  14. So, if only on a Friday, what would Newcastle, as a for instance, do? Forced to run NDL only?
  15. Extra time could have been given, surely? It's happened before.
  16. Copied and pasted off Facebook: Newcastle Diamonds brewing a storm for 2022 with the return of Matthew “Stormy” Wethers One of the most popular riders to don the Black and White of the Newcastle Diamonds, Matty Wethers, is coming back for 2022 and has said he will be back at full fitness come Springtime’s season-opening. New Newcastle Speedway co-promoter, Dave Tinning, said: “Matty Wethers has been a popular rider up here since he first rode for us in 2018, and it was a massive blow last year when he injured his arm so badly early on, but he was desperately keen to return, and his healing has been slow but progressive. His movement has largely returned to his arm now, so he’s totally sure he’ll be fully fit and raring to go when the club reopens next season. “Matty is the perfect rider to join our first two signings, skipper James Wright and Max Clegg, making a trio of riders who will push for points from the gate to the flag of every race they’re in, which is why all three are crowd-favourites who will be welcomed back with open arms by the fans. “This is a great start to the team building for 2022, and once we’re done I think people will be very satisfied with who we’re bringing to the tapes.” The Diamonds' management were also happy to reveal that, in bringing back James Wright, he is now a full Newcastle Speedway asset, which is a fine boost for the club in general. Matthew Wethers (b: 30 May 1985, Adelaide, South Australia) first rode at the age of 12 on 125cc machines at the famous Aussie Sidewinders club. He made his British début in 2003 with Edinburgh, then joined Glasgow in 2005 before returning to Edinburgh. Wethers settled at Berwick where he was taken to the Border hearts, joining Workington in 2015, then returning to Berwick in 2016, but had an enforced year out in 2017 before joined Newcastle in 2018 and is now back for his fourth season on a track he knows well (excluding the non-existent 2020), and indeed excels, having scored a paid 21-point maximum with Edinburgh in one of the most masterful inside-line performances at the Byker track in its entire 93 year history. His major honour is his South Australian State Under-16 Championship gold medal of 2001, while his club honours include League Championship wins in 2003, 2008, and 2010 [all Edinburgh] and a Premier Trophy win in 2008 [Edinburgh] as well as Play-Off wins is 2008, and 2009 [again with Edinburgh].
  17. Depends how they organize their fixtures. It would make sense not to run on the day he is committed to a Grasstrack meeting. Easily done.
  18. That's as may be, but if it were to reduce costs, particularly at Championship level, then that can only be a good thing, surely?
  19. No idea if this helps?? https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa
  20. Max and Roy back in 2022: Taken off Facebook: Max Clegg returns for 2022, as does local centre-green mic-man Roy Clarke photos: Steve Brock Photography The Newcastle Diamonds have added a second returnee from this 2021 season to their 2022 roster in the shape of 24-year-old, from Brighouse, West Yorkshire-born Max Clegg, a rider who originally joined the Brough Park club in 2019, instantly becoming a firm fans' favourite with a series of excellent rides on Byker shale. Club owner Rob Grant said: "Max was a pretty easy choice to ask back for another season with us, as he's a real tryer who will always give us his best on track to take every point he can, and you can see that effort every race. His last meeting for us back in September saw him tally a paid 15 points' total from his six rides proving he knows our track well and produce the goods. "Again, Max has been a pleasure to deal with and was equally as keen as we were to have him, to come back for us, and that's the sort of loyalty which should translate in to points once the new season gets going next Spring. "With Max joining James Wright for 2022, it gives us a great base to build a team upon which will be competitive in next season's competitions, and as always give the supporters some thrilling racing to watch. "One other person coming back to Newcastle in 2022 will be our centre green presenter, Roy Clarke who will be resuming his roving on the radio microphone after talks between myself and Roy were successful. He did an amazing job out our last meeting of the year and it will be good to have him back as he certainly helped create a much better atmosphere, which is all part of a great night out at the speedway!" Roy himself then added: "I'm really looking forward to coming back to the presentation at Newcastle next year, especially after the reception I got from the fans, and the promotion at the last meeting. Roll on 2022!" Max Clegg Career history: (b: 11 April 1997, Brighouse, West Yorkshire) started racing grass track at the age of seven before moving onto speedway when he was a teenager and was local club Sheffield’s mascot. He rode in the British U-15 500cc Championship in 2011 finishing second and made his National League début for Scunthorpe in 2012. In 2013 he made his Premier League début for the Sheffield Tigers in the last meeting of the season, and in 2014 he made his Elite League début aged just 16 vs. Wolverhampton, signing for Cradley for 2015 as their number One and captain. In 2016 he won the British U-19 Championship and the National League Riders Championship. He has consistently been a shining star in the Diamonds line up in 2019 and 2021, frequently in double figures.
