Why should British league speedway be organised to fit in with other countries' requirements Let's build our own structure, around riders who will commit to BL racing, at tracks which run on the nights (or days) most beneficial to themselves It may be a slow burner to begin with, but let's use our own building blocks and not cow tow to the greed of others Make it so there's enough racing to be had in the UK for those who want to race One big league, a proper KO Cup, regional comps, individual meetings Riders, commit to the UK, or go

The Save Coventry Campaign Group would like to invite all supporters and local residents to a meeting on Monday October 9. This meeting will take place in association with the NSSC at the Brandon Club, starting at 8pm. The purpose of the meeting is to update everyone on the latest position in the efforts to bring speedway and stock car racing back to Coventry, as we approach one year since Brandon last staged racing. There have been several developments over recent months, not all of which have been accurately reported, and we will be looking to set the record straight on a number of issues and hopefully give supporters a clearer understanding of the current position. All speedway and stock car supporters, and local residents concerned by the possibility of housing, are more than welcome to attend. Venue: Brandon Club, Main Street, Brandon, Coventry CV8 3HW

Do We Still Need The Play-offs
Midland Red replied to Star Lady's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Interesting comments following last night's Rugby League Play Off semi-final - many like this (familiar noises!) A fabulous game of Rugby League, well done Cas and Saints. However, I do not like the end-of-season system: If you win the league you are champions; if you finish bottom you are relegated. It shouldn't be a knockout system - the (much under-valued) Challenge Cup is for that purpose. -
89 years ago today, on 29th September 1928, the first ever speedway meeting at Brandon took place - I wonder if there will be another one? Rugby Advertiser, Friday 28 September 1928 Speedway Thrills on a Real Speedway. FASTEST IN BRITAIN. FIRST SPEEDWAY MEETING AT BRANDON MOTORDROME, To-Morrow (Saturday) at 3 p.m. Gates Open 2.15. POPULAR PRICES 1/2 and 2/4 (including Tax). Children Half-Price. Refreshments obtainable on Ground. Famous International Speedway Riders. First Time in Coventry. Coventry, Birmingham, London, and Australian Riders in Opposition. Midland Red Ruses will run from Coventry and Rugby direct to the Ground. Reduced Train Fares. Rugby (L.M.S.) to Brandon, 2.17, return 6.30. A Real Speedway. As will be seen from our advertisement columns, the first Speedway Meeting on the new track at Brandon Motordrome will held to-morrow (Saturday). The track, which is reputed to be the fastest in Britain and the first of the D shape in this country, measures, outside 462 yards and inside, 352 yards 40 feet wide on the straights and 60 feet wide at corners. A new patent safety fence device has been erected, and in future meetings will be held at night by electric light. Some very high speeds have been attained by local riders, and thus real thrills are assured the spectators, as famous international riders will be competing. There will be special bus facilities from Rugby and Coventry, and reduced train fares to Brandon Station.

What a pleasure to watch a meeting and not have to listen to Sir Shoutalot or Ermolenko Great commentary - are you listening, BT?
