  1. All this serves to highlight the fact that, these days, there is no bond between riders and fans, riders and promoters, fans and promoters, like there always used to be That will only return with some stability in the make up of teams, not by the continued acquisition of journeyman riders, who don't really build up any strong relationship with the clubs they ride for Remember the good old days at Brandon when the riders all lived locally, rode for Bees year in year out, mixed with fans in the bars after meetings - and that was replicated around the country I too have rose tinted glasses - but lessons ought to be learnt from the past, and particularly from 1964/65
  2. If the club to which they are contracted still has fixtures outstanding . . . . YES!
  3. Tongue in cheek, I hope? Australian GP should be moved to a date when our FULL SEASON has been completed, and riders contracted to ride here should do just that, or face future suspension No, sir! One properly and professionally organised British League will solve the doubling up/down problem. One rider, one team. Exceptions being "development league" riders allotted to BL teams' reserve positions
  4. Nothing I've read changes my opinion that the way to go is one British League with clubs hosting meetings on the nights/days which suits them and teams made up of those who will support this 100%
  5. Shouldn't have arranged it for during the speedway season
  6. Meaningless fixture? Not for the riders, that is their chosen "job" - they ride to earn a living, and also for the enjoyment of - as Bomber says - "riding my bike" Fixtures are never meaningless to anyone involved whose livelihood depends on them
  7. Why in a "championship" does there have to be a wildcard? If it's got to be the OOFC - sorry, SGP - shouldn't it be between 16 riders and not 15?
  8. The unpredictability of a World Final! Exactly! There's unlikely to be much at Melbourne That's rather my point!
  9. The climax of the season used to be World Final night, with, theoretically, any one of 16 riders able to take the crown Now, for 2017 it's any one of two, and long odds against one of them - and the rest of the excitement is about qualifying for next season Oh for the good old days!
  10. Why not just open all the windows and throw out handfuls of £20 notes?
  11. Let's hope, if this is correct, that Sheffield and Ipswich, at least, move up
  12. Coventry Bees C Harris 7.26 J Garrity 6.32 K Woryna 6.00 J Bates 5.52 J Auty 4.50 J Shanes 2.95 J Sarjeant 2.20 Total 34.75
  13. Oh, so it's taken place - what's been decided then?
  14. 1 Jake Allen (Guest for Ben Barker) 2 David Wallinger (NL Guest for Ellis Perks) 3 R/R Charles Wright 4 Connor Coles (NL Guest for Jonas B Andersen) 5 Josh Auty (Capt) (Guest for Jason Garrity) 6 Ben Morley (Guest for Tobias Busch) 7 Mitchell Davey (Guest for Danny Ayres)
  15. Perhaps Hans Andersen could come up with a workable solution
  16. Not quite as simple as that - remember, according to Neil Muddlo, it's a "contact sport"
  17. No need to take that attitude with our Gemini, even if your name is "sharp...."
  18. Surely the "ban" is because of his illness, not because of his absence?
  19. Congrats to Nick Morris, certainly He was the best rider in heat 22 He won one other race when competing against the other 15 riders in heats 1-20, and was second in heat 21 Congrats to Richie Worrall - the best rider on the night, beating ALL others If there has to be this build-up in individual meetings to a final race decider, surely the fairest way to go is the system discarded by OOFC (SGP) whereby riders are eliminated along the way after two 3rd/4th places - that way, it is right that the last four men standing race off for the title At the moment, there is little or no justice that a rider can beat everyone else but not be the winner
