  1. In no way am I standing up for Mr Horton But I would suggest that his comment relates to a speedway-only stadium not being viable - which is probably true I'm intrigued as to his motives - it couldn't possibly be financial (to run a NL team 20+ miles from "home") so . . . what is it?
  2. Happy memories of 'Buzz' at Brandon RIP Antonin
  3. Great news! Want to watch speedway? Then go and pay at the turnstiles to see it
  4. Peter Oakes' article is mainly about trying to create another British World Champion and improving British riders It says little or nothing about the steps needed to rescue British speedway
  5. I didn't qualify my statement other than to say "best two riders on that list"
  6. Any of Peter Collins' 100 mates on the list?
  7. As long as you're not suggesting that Tai Woffinden is one of the all-time greats . . . yes, he is one of the best Brits, but nothing more
  8. Would that be anything to do with the creation of Ole Olsen's Flying Circus, by any chance? The catalyst for the downturn in interest in the bread-and-butter speedway which had been enjoyed for so long, now it's all about self, money, greed, etc etc. And the downturn in fan-rider relationships with all the journeymen in the teams now - nobody seems to belong anymore
  9. Anyone know what happened to this club, and in particular their ex-Midland Red Motorway Express coach?
  10. That surely deserves a thread of its own - longest association with one club
  11. All this serves to highlight the fact that, these days, there is no bond between riders and fans, riders and promoters, fans and promoters, like there always used to be That will only return with some stability in the make up of teams, not by the continued acquisition of journeyman riders, who don't really build up any strong relationship with the clubs they ride for Remember the good old days at Brandon when the riders all lived locally, rode for Bees year in year out, mixed with fans in the bars after meetings - and that was replicated around the country I too have rose tinted glasses - but lessons ought to be learnt from the past, and particularly from 1964/65
  12. If the club to which they are contracted still has fixtures outstanding . . . . YES!
  13. Tongue in cheek, I hope? Australian GP should be moved to a date when our FULL SEASON has been completed, and riders contracted to ride here should do just that, or face future suspension No, sir! One properly and professionally organised British League will solve the doubling up/down problem. One rider, one team. Exceptions being "development league" riders allotted to BL teams' reserve positions
  14. Nothing I've read changes my opinion that the way to go is one British League with clubs hosting meetings on the nights/days which suits them and teams made up of those who will support this 100%
  15. Shouldn't have arranged it for during the speedway season
  16. Meaningless fixture? Not for the riders, that is their chosen "job" - they ride to earn a living, and also for the enjoyment of - as Bomber says - "riding my bike" Fixtures are never meaningless to anyone involved whose livelihood depends on them
  17. Why in a "championship" does there have to be a wildcard? If it's got to be the OOFC - sorry, SGP - shouldn't it be between 16 riders and not 15?
  18. The unpredictability of a World Final! Exactly! There's unlikely to be much at Melbourne That's rather my point!
  19. The climax of the season used to be World Final night, with, theoretically, any one of 16 riders able to take the crown Now, for 2017 it's any one of two, and long odds against one of them - and the rest of the excitement is about qualifying for next season Oh for the good old days!
  20. Why not just open all the windows and throw out handfuls of £20 notes?
