  1. Apart from the Palovaara debate, this was a good close match with the result always in doubt. Glasgow started like an express train and 6 up after 4 heats and again after 9 heats was fair reward. Pijper blitzed heat 1 as did Ellis in heat 2. In fact Ellis rode well throughout and was very at home on the bigger track. Might be the first meeting I've seen him in when he hasn't fallen at least once! He rode very well to beat Ostergaard in heat 4 - the only rider to do so in 9 attempts. Pijper also rode well to beat Dryml. Wolbert was never a threat to the home heat leaders and even lost to Dilger in his last ride!! Aarnio looked useful and looks to be getting back on the pace. Harrison was a bit of a handful and had a good win over Dryml before taking a nasty tumble in his last ride trying to move up from the back. He went into turn 2 far too fast and paid the penalty. Seemed to crack his head hard on the track so it was a relief to see him up and walking back after a while. The ref was seriously late late in getting the red lights on after the crash - the riders were past the start line before they came on. Lykke Nielsen was pretty impressive - certainly gated better than when I saw him for Rye. He and Ellis showed what reserves should be doing - 15+3 from 9 versus 4 from 10. For Panthers, Bjerre recovered after a slow first race to be unbeaten by an opponent in his next 4, including 2 big 5-1s with Ostergaard in 13 & 15. Dryml rode well to only drop a couple of points - such a supreme stylist! Roynon was very erratic. 2 self inflicted falls and a good heat win and a second plus a last. Needs to settle down a bit. Ostergaard was majestic. A surprising defeat to Ellis and then vroom for the rest of the night. Probably didn't gate first at all but so spectacular round the boards. Dilger tried hard, gated then lost position, until his last 2 rides - a good finish ahead of Wolbert in heat 12 to reduce the deficit to 4, and then a very good second ahead of Ellis in heat 14 to avoid the deficit opening up to 4, after Roynon had binned it whilst third. Barrett - words fail me!! Glasgow were certainly faster out of the gate most of the evening and may feel hard done by not to have got a draw. R/R for Hall mustered only 4 from the number 2 position so maybe no improvement on what Hall might have scored. It's grim when you are giving r/r rides to Dilger and Barrett!! Lovely fresh batch of chips from the catering van plus programmes available this time plus the lighting seemed better in the stand. Just need the riders to talk more slowly when being interviewed on the mic!! Not sure how Panthers are going to occupy themselves after Sunday given the League Cup final against Monarchs is was down on their priorities.
  2. I know Palovaara gets a huge amount of stick on the BSF as do the Glasgow management for signing him, but.................. ..... he did score 10 in the World U21 Qualifier at Leicester in May - http://speedwayupdates.proboards.com/thread/13312/world-qualifying-round-leicester-30pm This included wins over Gino Manzares, the highly rated Eduard Krcmar and against Max Fricke in the run-off. So based on that he should have been a decent signing. To be honest he didn't look that bad last night. Wasn't gating but was keeping up. Maybe it's his equipment that's not up to it over here - is it still borrowed stuff?
  3. I really don't see your logic here. According to my watch heat 13 was called at pretty much 10 o'clock. Panthers had virtually nothing to gain by running the race, being only 2 points up at the time - a 5-0 was so very improbable. More probable was that they might suffer a heat loss resulting in a draw or home defeat. So why would they have pushed to race it?????? Anyway back to the racing, it was a good close entertaining meeting. The racing wasn't always close but Ostergaard is worth double the admission cost on his own. His rides round the boards are as scary as hell!! Angle the bike at 45 degrees and ride round the bottom of the fence!!! 8 wins in a row including the Glasgow match. Dryml was also outstanding until his tangle with Campton in heat 9. He did move over a little after a good gate from 3 but it was compounded by Roynon moving out a touch from 1, so Campton was the meat in a nasty sandwich. He did extremely well to get off the back before the bike wrecked itself and the bouncy castle. Thought he were going to get some handbags when Dryml went over to check on him but there were only words! It certainly seemed to energise Campton who comfortably won the rerun and beat Bjerre in the following race, having only beaten Dilger in his previous two. Dryml went the other way and after reeling off 3 straight wins by heat 8, he lost out to Compton and then to Jacobs. Bjerre was a bit patchy losing to Wells and Campton before the good 5-1 with Ostergaard in heat 13. Roynon wasn't great to be honest. Part of a good 5-1 over Bach in heat 3 but only finished ahead of Jacobs apart from that. I agree he does seem to be over-riding too much. He might score more points and keep safer if he reined it in a bit. Not much to say about the reserves - outscored 11 to 5. Both tried hard but don't look likely to score enough, though Barrett did manage to keep Bach behind him in heat 12 to keep Panthers 2 point lead. Fow Worky, Grajczonek & Bach disappointed. 9 points between them from 8 rides. Wells was a threat when he gated but that was mainly in heat 1 against Bjerre. Jacobs rode well and obviously had a point to prove. He gated well throughout which was important when it slicked up (unless you were Ostergaard!!). Lambert wasn't really a threat all evening. I agree there was too much time wasted though there would have been time for all 15 had it not been for Campton's off. Oh - r/r for Hall mustered 3 points (Dryml's win in heat 8) and for Howarth mustered 7+1!!
  4. Potential? I missed that. Didn't Pavlova do well in the U21 qualifier?
  5. Berwick seem to have blown up. Started to believe the hype? Haven't now got the high scoring reserve to bail them out.
  6. I'd fancy Sneddon & Fox to clean up against these Panthers reserves even at the showground. Barrett was even worse than last week. Dilger tries and gates not too badly, he just gets outmuscled and his style is against him - hunched over the bars. Not confident they'll score much against Jacobs & Lambert but you never know.
  7. But if Barrett rides like he did against Scunny everyone will wipe the floor with him. He might have had a chance against Pavlova but won't race him!! .
  8. Should be another decent evening though Glasgow look a touch light with Pavlova still at #1. 6 points are critical for Panthers but I don't see them getting the full house. Weather looks fine for the evening but maybe a bit chilly by curfew time!! Hope Dryml has fully recovered.
  9. Doubt it. Might do ok at home - would get mullered away.
  10. Unless the weather steps in I don't expect Newcy to hold on to 6th place. Panthers deffo need to beat Worky tomorrow and pick up the 3 home wins by Sunday to get to 39 points which would make it all very interesting. Probably won't pick up a point at Plymouth but you never know. Worky are unlikely to get anything from the away trips to Berwick and Somerset so they need to get 6 points from their double header with Sheffield to also get to 39 points. But it has been know to rain in the north west!!
  11. Probably all academic anyway - doubt he should come back that quickly - and unlikely Peterborough will still have any fixtures left!!
  12. Need to hope Peterborough finish ahead of Worky so that I can get to see it!! Peterborough are certainly not the team that busted our unbeaten record.
  13. Wouldn't fancy Ippo in our group so hope we can top the list at the cut-off and leave that hot potato for Somerset!!
  14. No track grading at all during the meeting last night. Is this normal at Rye nowadays? Does it save money? Have to say in fairness though the track seemed to ride well all evening. Mostly gate & go but maybe Monarchs were just too sharp from the gate? Cookie was very fast. Untroubled all night - made it interesting in 1 heat by letting the Rye boys gate first then picking them off with nonchalant ease. Kennett wasn't. Pretty dire all night when I had expected him to score nearly a max. Sam Masters rode some great second bends. Max Fricke was steady but unspectacular apart from his pass on Kennett. Justin Sedgmen again steady and unspectacular. Deek did better than I expected. Still slow but kept to his lines and picked up a decent score though I think his slowness resulted in Bowen catching Aaron Fox on the last bend in heat 2. And Foxy rode very well - gated well and rode with aggression. Promising. Much better than Dilger!! Garrity showed some fight (the right kind this time!). Won his races comfortably when he gated though it kinda looked like Monarchs were happy to fill the next places rather than give chase. Bowen likewise showed some good spirit. Boxall?? Must be a nightmare having him in your team. How many did he score at Redcar? And then he produces this crap. Even Aaron Fox beat him comfortably. Barrett - what can I say? Absolute pants. Greenwood tried hard but he was so much better on my previous visit to Rye when he was with Peterborough. What a dismal place Rye is nowadays. Could hardly hear the PA on the first bend. No atmosphere at all. Crowd looked better than I expected but not great. Spirally downwards.
  15. Deek's big scores have been in the past for quite a while now.
  16. I too think Rye will win this unfortunately. Maybe we'll nick a point. Rye's reserves will murder ours. And with Stevie missing or second hand Rye's heat leader strength will be too much unless Boxall rides to his average rather than his ability.
