Rockets V Sheffield Pl 17/5/14 7.00pm
Rockets replied to Ben91's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Funny meeting. For Sheffield steady and Compton really gave it a go. The young reserves looked composed but hungry too. If proctor is better than roynon then Adam must have really lost it. Leigh and Taylor pale shadows of their former selves. For Rye essentially a three man team. Eddie Steve and Jason were excellent.warming to Matt. Luke a night to forget but on the wrong end of the referee who in my opinion had a poor night. Jason showing glimpses. Simon - it's not down to a lack of effort. We could all see that. But it's time to change and as someone said we could with a bit of thinking have Steve and Jason at reserve. Len really has to start preparing the track for the riders he has. Far too slick. -

And back to speedway boys. I think I have resigned myself to another season of ups and downs but probably mid table at best unless Len realises the error of his ways and sorts the JB and SL problem. Think we will win but Sheffield have enough race winners to keep it close. Should be entertaining though. Carrying two passengers will mean big home wins will be a rarity. Ps - lets hope the gooners get stuffed Ben. -
Blimey that is a no brainer

Rye house v mildenhall was always something special as was hackney v Ipswich in the mid - late seventies. The away fans always seemed so unreasonable.

Rye House V Peterborough 4th May
Rockets replied to Dave Stummings's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Strange but it almost seemed a much more comfortable win than the final margin. Track not bad to start with but don't understand why it was nt graded around heats 10 or 11 as it just got slicker and slicker. For panthers bjerre is realising that potential he showed in his debut season and Oliver greenwood again showed what a good prospect he is. Ulrich deserved more points for his efforts. Fisher looked out of sorts and very lucky to escape serious injury on a nasty looking crash. For us Eddie and Boxalls look very good and a very welcome return to form for JG. I really do think people have overlooked the need to get himself race fit after so much time out last year. Luke looked a little subdued and tress did what is expected of him. Now our problems. Lambert. I can only assume Len was waiting for the green sheets. And Bunyan . A few little spats in the crowd over this one. It would seem Jason is still riding with a broken rib. Clearly not on the pace today. Only from a personal point of view whilst his bravery is to be admired I'm not sure it helps him as a rider or us as a team. Decent crowd. So far as I am aware neither the beer or chips ran dry. -

I think the apathy stems from three things. First we are out of this competition. Second the team desperately needs changing if it is to be competitive and third there is a knock in from a lack of success year after year. Now the new green sheets are out and Eddie has a true average the promotion must make changes. JG was out most of last season and was always going to take time to find his feet. He is class when on form and it would be stupid to lose him. Royon and Nielsen ( or even nelson) if he has sorted his visa for lambert and Bunyan are no brainers. -

Would roynon fit and in place of who? -

Was it in Lens interest to call it off? Kennet would have got a new average? Scunthorpe were there to be beaten based on their away form. He probably still has hard costs to meet like staff and first aid etc? He may have got it wrong but more often than not he gets it right. I drove up from Brighton for the Ipswich meeting and was convinced it would be off as I aqua planed the M23 but it was nt. Yes the team isn't doing well but exactly what was gained by calling this off? -
Wilson used to be awful around Rye.

Rye House V Ipswich 20 April League Cup
Rockets replied to Vincent Vega's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Thanks had enough. By my reckoning Eddie will have done four home and away by the 1 st. Shame we can't include his scores for Birmingham . Showed his class yesterday in heat 13 and bravery in heat 15. If you read this mate welcome back Eddie. -

Ben do you know when the green sheets come out - presumably before our first league fixture? -

We are so hard on our teams. For Ipswich. If you want to give us heeps or run gate feel free. You are nt far away away from being a good team. Would you prefer to be challenging for the LC or the PL ? For Rye we need to be patient too. Edward gives 100% as was shown by him in hear 15. Steve B and Luke are doing all and more that could be asked of them. Tress again settling in nicely. Jason b won't get any better but slowly settling into the season. I think we all know Simons time is up but do we bring in Ben now or wait till Eddie has got a new average then pick a rider on a higher average. Three things about today. Rye could do with a gripper racing track but weather prohibited that. Same for both teams though bearing in mind the ongoing rain which hit shortly after the finish. Two the quite sublime start of heat 13. A joy to watch. Third the garrity incident. Ref got it horribly wrong. JG went around Ellis and was half a wheel in front It seemed Ellis not unfairly moved out and JG from a self preserving perspective elbowed Ellis to the left. Thankfully no one injured and a true racing incident but it shows the shortcomings of the ref - or the rules whereby true racing incidents have to show one rider penalised. Poor crowd but that may have much to do whether the meeting was on or not x -
Have to say comfortable for the Rockets and hopefully a sign of at least a good home season to come. Boxall and Kennet exceptional Bowen and JG showing very promising signs coming back from injury Matt dialled in after his first couple of rides. Lambert still looks uncomfortable. Be stronger still when Bunyan comes back. Fisher deserved better back up only Ostergard performed to form. Berre and Dryml need to pick their form up. Greenwood continues to look a good prospect and Phillips was nt far off the pace. Good crowd for a challenge.

Rye house and mildenhall late seventies for me. A genuine dislike that still festers.

A lovely guy and racer when riding for us Rockets. Get well soon Sean.
-
Steady!
-
I hear Boxalls looked quick. Could be a trump rider for us this year.
-
Hey it's not like someone has been stabbed or anything.
-
Rumour of garrity not practising on his home track today? Problem anyone?

One foreigner per NL. When Rye signed Jens Rasmussen ( one of my favourite riders by the way) it was said that we would only have one or two foreign riders in the PL - now look! Actually what we should do is artificially inflate british kids prospects by giving them a start rookie average of say one point in the PL providing at least four other team members are british.

Rather than just making one appointment why does nt the bspa set out a blueprint we can follow. For now Rosco is not a bad choice. Phil Morris is the prince waiting in the wings. Phil should have the widest possible mandate and budget to get the next generation through to a world standard. It should be made clear now that unless there is a change of circumstances he will be Roscos successor. Like wise someone maybe even a current rider should be being groomed as Phils successor. As for riders we have to accept the current generation cannot compete at the very top ie top three or four. We have to look at fast tracking some of the talent we have like Garrity and Lambert. Set up test matches for them home and away give them a lions series in OZ find them places in foreign leagues so they can progress on the same playing field as their foreign counterparts. This is what the sky money should have been used for! Rather than just making one appointment why does nt the bspa set out a blueprint we can follow. For now Rosco is not a bad choice. Just about to say Crayford myself. If you were on the opposite side to that dip at ground level you virtually lost the riders. Of modern tracks Peterborough is my favourite. Of those now defunct the old hackney track. Fair to all with lots of different racing lines. I'm a rye fan and despite what some say its a better race track than many think. The camber has been there forever and the only ones who now get caught out by it are those who don't bother finding out how to ride or avoid it. Be interesting to see whether when installing the air fence Len brings the fence in to nullify it.

If you have the free run of the stadium like we do at Rye then the major costs must be staff - ref, admin, track and catering - track preparation and insurance and ambulance cover. Len said he used to not lose money on NL racing at Rye when he charged no admission fee due to catering sales etc. I suspect the costs of a winter meeting will easily be offset by a small admission charge catering takings or even a modest team sponsorship. Maybe someone with promotional experience who reads this could assist?

More likely ride for free or for a share of the gate if the league takes off x
