I can see why people are saying about the age of the team but that's just a number.. Look around at other teams? Your going to wolves without Lindgren , Swindon without Doyle ? What you have is solid base to start the season, we know how it works and it won't be the team that finishes it. Full of entertainers and a good British core, a team that fans can relate to and use last year as a base to work on. Not in their prime but no means over the hill with Bomber, Barker and Nicholls you are going to see some brilliant racing at home week in, week out. If say the Poole deal goes sour and you end up with Holder that would be amazing (if he fits average wise) KK is a risk but on that average one very much worth taking as you treat him right and he gets on well with bomber then you have a few who can mix it with Morris, Thorsell and co.
-
He is good, If he isn't somewhere from the start it won't be long before he is picked up. The main problem is that he is in the middle order and has never really looked like stepping up a level to improve, I think of him as a next season he will show us kind of rider and he does try hard and when he is good he is good but can also dip in form a little. Nicholls and Harris are sadly past their peak but still have it more often than not to produce or use what they know to get into positions to get an extra point here and there.

The footage is excellent and it really is a trip down memory lane and being 39 I only remember really from 84/85 season but seeing the history of it was something I really enjoyed and wasn't aware of. We have done 2 dvd's so far and savouring the other for over Christmas. Be a lot of work but maybe one day Pete from clean cut sports can do a best of speedway dvd from his time filming at Coventry, must be some great heats and thrills and spills.
-
My dad and I were also watching the excellent dvd over the weekend. Excellent memories and footage and if it wasn't clear enough to the younger fan then it certainly is a must watch of what a speedway owner should be like. Charles Ochiltree and Mick Horton couldn't be further apart, he must be going crazy up there looking down at what is happening to the club and stadium he built up to be what we all enjoyed for so many years. The dvd should be sent to Brandon estates and shown to rugby council. They purchased a running/working stadium not a building site.

I think the amount of comments regarding this about sums it up. Mick Horton will not get a penny more out of my pocket, the man is a walking disaster and we will vote with our feet. I miss speedway, I miss Brandon but I have certain morals in life that when you are being taken for a complete idiot then I'm out. Why Mick Horton and Neil Watson actually think this is going to work is a little strange if the answer is that simple then please shed some light? It is clear as day the fans don't want this ! How is it financially viable and what is the minimum attendance to make it break even? It's on par with putting Donald Trump in charge of us, not a grip on reality and its not going to end well. Maybe its more on par with Blackadder and who has a cunning plan ?

Such bad luck for Ipswich, the rules are the same for both teams but it's still a kick in the nuts when in both legs to lose a rider after the first ride to be replaced by a reserve is not really a fair meeting. My only argument on the guests is that yes as fans we moan about them but... Maybe if some of the riders who pull plain daft excuses and pull out meetings then guests would not be needed half as much. Some are genuine no doubt but I think some riders think we are that stupid we can't see what is going on. The amount of 24 hour bugs or 1 day recovery from injury is amazing. This time of year most have lost interest and so that's why Scotty and Bomber have picked up bookings, not many riders left in the uk and have gone home.
-
I think Freddie will be back for you. Greaves & Jacob Should also be signed up as soon as. The middle order will depend on the points limit but that will effect most teams. Kyle has been good on occasions but I thought at times he has no awareness for his team mates on the track and got in the way but as a number 2 I don't think there are many better. Rory has given you a great season, proved so many wrong and that's been great so see as a bees fan, his problem is that where he gave what he did I think Masters has more about him to improve his average and especially at home he can be very good. All in all you have the spine of another team that can challenge without making many changes and continuity is I think an important role. A great team manager and owner and I think after a few seasons of struggles it's good to see wolves back fighting for the title.

Ipswich V Sheffield Po Final 2nd Leg 30-9-17
Coventry_Bee replied to Super Blue's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
I think at 39 Nicholls can cope with a few boo's. All will be forgotten when he probably ends up back with the witches next season. He tweeted about the response he was getting yesterday and if any extra motivation was needed then that was it. Obviously not seeing what people are on about in heat 1 it's not for me to really comment but I will echo the thoughts previously put on here that Scott is no dirty rider. Very hard at times but has always left racing room, this was the grand final second leg and he was going to set the tone from the start. Glad to see his night picked up and grabbed a few wins. Also very happy for simon stead, a guest at Nuneaton speedway supporters club earlier in the year. Came across really well and you can see what his team think of him. Congratulations to Sheffield on winning and congratulations to Ipswich in taking defeat the right way. A certain Manchester club learn a few things from you all. -
I am sure I read that Brandon Estates are not even talking with the committee group set up. The group is however very active with the council so it's a confusing story to read about a possibility of speedway for a few more years at the stadium. Even if a new site was to be found I would never want houses built on the stadium grounds. The village would not be able to cope and it shouldn't be "forget about them if we get somewhere else" attitude. The traffic and all that goes with it would be horrendous and put more strain on what is at peak times a nightmare area to be in already. I expect a few more stories, it's a shame they get printed really as has already been mentioned it's a one sided theory not mentioning the main income of the stadium. Quite bizarre !! All we can do is keep the faith and get behind the group set up by Jeff and David.
-
I understand it was the bank who sold Coventry Stadium not Sandhu, When it was purchased from the Ochiltree family he could have easily done the same as what Brandon Estates did and locked the gates. I have no idea where the sites were that were looked at apart from Brandon Farm was it called but in regards the proposed site, you think it can be built with monopoly money? The land, planning, building will cost millions. If Mick Horton has the backers then that's all well and good but.. in reality i think we know the answer. The council will i am sure want assurances that capital is in place otherwise its a waste of everybody's time.
-
If you have the evidence to say otherwise then please by all means inform us all. What IS offensive is reading half the utter tripe written on here. As a Bees fan I think we have so much to thank Sandhu for or did you think 2005,2006, 2007, 2010 was just a magical happening that occurred in this cloud cuckoo land you are in. Were you moaning when Emil was signed, were you moaning this time 10 years ago in the clubs most successful ever year. Riders have come out and spoke in support of Sandhu and the way he conducted himself as owner of the bees. If the finger was to be pointed anywhere it is the BSPA as they made Coventry's life very difficult and Sandhu sold up, British Speedway would have been in a far better position had at the time Sandhu been took seriously. Who do you think maybe funding this new venture out of interest then? The Council, Mick Horton or Somebody who has just sold an asset for a few million?
-
I love how the conspiracy theory just won't go away, no matter how many people say it. Sandhu's name has been dragged through the gutter in all this, I just don't understand how people think this is all so pre-planned. My concern would be how the hell to shut Mick Horton up and who is giving him information to go blabbing. The telegraph and Horton seem to now and again crop up with unhelpful headlines. We were told we would know something when it was the right time, the work that the committee have put in along with the councils has been risked by somebody who should know better But instead we add this to the CV of hortons cock ups and disaster stories. More than ever, I'm not sure if it's because it's the end of the season or the realisation that 2018 looks the same as this that I really miss Brandon. 10 years since the glorious treable and driving past and just wanting so much to be able to have a walk round for a last time. Brandon estates have proved a nasty piece of work that can't be trusted, won't speak to the speedway group set up by Jeff and David but can comment on travelers. I hope Rugby Council repay the silent treatment for decades when they finally come crawling out the hole and submit an application, nobody wants them about and the reputation and press they have received has not been favourable at all. I just want my speedway team back, I want it run by somebody with integrity and honesty. But I also want to win the lottery ... Fingers crossed on all counts then hey.

Kings Lynn Vs Wolves ( Double Header) 23.08,17

A Grand Prix winner, multi time British champion, entertaining and all action rider who gives 100% every race then I think Lambert will be ok with that. -
Kings Lynn Vs Wolves ( Double Header) 23.08,17
Coventry_Bee replied to g13webb's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
There is only so many times a person can say "not my fault" and brush things over. The track prep the other week, the responsibility of the fixture planning and the responsibility of being able to produce a team to compete falls at the promotion. It wasn't a busy night of speedway up and down the country to get a guest or at worst a number 8 as the risk was there with it being a double header. Nobody takes pleasure in tonight's mess, however questions have to be asked? They have of riders and clubs the past few weeks and this really is embarrassing. Not only would first time fans be put off but long time fans must be devistated. -
King's Lynn V Somerset 7/8/17(£10 Adults)

Any team news ahead of tomorrow's meeting yet? -
How many meetings each week are actually run where there is a 1-7 with no guests and no r/r? I think trying to attract new fans in the current state of the sport is so difficult, how on earth do you try and explain the farce of the team line ups tonight? There is no future in team speedway, you are better running an individual meeting week in week out as this doubling up issue gets worse year on year and as a bees fan I have missed speedway but not the merry go round and as in the star with Berwick using 46 riders so far this season it's absolute nonsense. The team Kings Lynn put out is embarrassing, to pay elite league entrance fee for that is robbing the public. Who wants to see that tonight, they should be fined for fielding such a poor team. Buster can't blame this on anybody else, he made his choices and has to live with the consequences. Sad night for British speedway and Monday night on TV isn't exactly the fixture we need to sell the sport, be praying for rain I imagine.

Swindon will give anybody a run for their money at the moment, good point in the above post about Harris and Nicholls. At Swindon on Thursday I believe they were in the thick of the action and Harris especially has scored well recently away from Rye at home. With out Doyle they seem just as strong and that takes some doing, fair play to rosco as at the start of the year I thought they would be too far short after Doyle's average took so much but good fortune and sticking by Ellis has paid off. A long way to go but looking good and going to take some team to take this Swindon team over 2 legs.
-
I see Robert lambert thinks it's out of order at what's happened. Clubs no loyalty to riders, riders no loyalty to clubs because of this and where does it leave the paying public? Leaving the sport year on year, run like a semi-professional sport.
-
But it is a joke.. Riders getting sacked left right and centre this season, look at the farce at Ipswich where they sacked two guys then realised they didn't add up correctly and have to ring them so say ...sorry, your back in. . Clubs have no loyalty to riders what so ever, if they get injured they simply replace them and goodbye. This season has by far been the worst for crazy team changes and I've missed going to Brandon this year but simply for what it means because of its history. I haven't missed Mick Horton and watching this merry go round of riders, call me old fashioned but a team was a team for the season and in previous posts I have put that I believe 2 changes maximum should be allowed per season.

Everybody has arguments at work, both parties here at fault in some proportion however holders getting a slating and busters ok to produce that track as an acceptable nights entertainment and from what you hear it's not the first time it's been not so good. Should have shook hands and that be it done, the way it's been carried out by buster is that of somebody not to trust. Speedway is dangerous and yet so is F1, look at the lengths they are going to with this halo to protect the driver. if the track isn't right they have a safety car and are held until it is safe to race. The surface is drivable but not raceable and in their carbon fibre shells these guys safety is paramount. Crashes in speedway will happen, injuries will happen, always have and always will but it has to be fair game. If somebody had been to their first meeting or it had been on tv what advert would that be to the sport? Does not deserve to be called a professional sport being run like this.
-
Lost the plot in then calling off the Rye meeting when sun was forecast... Robert lambert even commented on the track situation so of course its if your face fits or not. Buster has nobody left to hide behind and all eyes will be on track he produces. Clay based material is always going to be awful !! The team he has put together would struggle in the league below, a few hammerings coming there way and the top 4 clubs now look a class above the rest.
-
I am obviously one of the few who disagree with this. The manner in the the way Buster has handled this should concern everybody. As a club Kings Lynn are just about on their backside, people used to look upto how they conducted things on and off track and now people are walking away, quitting or getting sacked and the tracks been way below what is expected. Troy was a pratt for guesting for Swindon and made buster look one by doing so, Holder is never going to risk an injury after his record of bad knocks and like it or not he will never be the Chris holder of 2012 again. Darcy's crash has but a certain point to where holder will go and what he will race on and to be quite honest I can't blame him. If the track had been prepared for a top level uk meeting then we wouldn't be here debating this. Facts are that that the track was awful, dangerous and wasn't upto scratch, who's Door does that fall at? Buster has changed and who I once thought would do ok for British speedway now makes me very concerned. If this is how he does his business and puts 3 riders out of work and 2 for the season then I am saddened. This team is designed to cut costs for the rest of the season as no way can they compete with Wolves, Swindon, Belle Vue and now Rye House.
