Cardiff Grand Prix
philfromcov replied to Steve Shovlar's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
my only complaint? i printed off the race order before i went so that the kids could fill in the programme too! Imagine my surprise when after spending £8 for a programme i had to write the riders down myself! the web programmes were better than the real one, i wont make that mistake again! -

nope dont agree to that kind of stuff, i have my principles and i wont be swayed just because of 40 000! i you want to stand up like mind controlled sheep thats your problem, as i say i don't stand up for the british one either! the entertainment was very good... or it had the effect that the kids wont watch X factor again! when bombers on his GP bikes around brandon his normally miles ahead, just goes to show how poor the elite is! well done Mr holder, excellent to see someone determined to get to the top and still have a smile! -

to be fair: who actually goes for the pre meeting stuff? no one! if you were going to get any good no one could agree with that size of crowd! so why even bother. my biggest gripe is all the people standing for the welsh anthem, im not welsh so i dont! mind you i dont stand for th British one either as im not german! lets do away with pompus rubbish like this -

tickets just turned up! do they still have the young riders performing? -
the madness of the ticket system, is that im taking 2 kids so its cheaper to buy a family ticket for 4 and throw 1 away than buy three tickets, mind boggling!

is old people remember singing at speedway meetings, but then we had a crowd mentality then.. who remembers singing "when the red red robin..." shoot the b***tard shoot the b***tard for the swindon fans! -
can you still buy them on the day? thats how i did it the first few times, still not sure how many im taking yet so that might be an option, where do they sell them?
-
only one comment, despite peoples memories being vague. yes ther were big crowds in the 70's, i was one of them, but to suggest 10-12 could win was wrong, normally lee, collins, jessup and one other1 at most 4 in with a chance although all competitors were in the top league and most were heat leaders.

hang on a second thats just not the way it is. we have backed rory solidily over the last two years, he has, im he will admit, massivley underperformed over that period. fans and the team have kept faith, this season is his turn to return that faith, or he could end up a janirro figure, lots of talent but not the application to do it. the team itself will perform weel this year as long as bomber and rory step up to ther potential, if they dont the team will do nothing. at the end of the day and as long as the poster on this forum goes through the turnstiles then he/she has every right to complain about all riders performance. if they are just sitting on this forum and never put money into the sport then thats completely different -

actually the trck was very very good especially considering the weather, it always looked good. the late running of meetings is becoming a pain and they need to sharpen up, last season league meeting would end at 10:30! why cancell the parade and then mess around, "lets give the unkown pole more time to fix his bike" wrong wrong wrong! POSITIVES eddie looked impresive and nice to see roo boy showing a bit of balls giving crump a hard time davy watt from apprently the 2010 elite league chumpions 3/4 a lap behined everyone else, no wonder holder stayed away! NEGATIVES well i wont list then apart from riders giving up to quickly the huge number of engine problems.... or where they faked too? but as mentioned before presentation zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz yorkie go home please i cannie take it anymore captain! oh and the back straight bar closed! -

perhaps the site of pooles number one running a few lasts will cause panic on the south coast.. you can just see some unknown pole being warmed up already! -

what would be good is if each track had a web cam or two pointing at the track, so that we check ourselves! suns out and warm -

it has not rained at all this morning, last night till about 20:00 yes but its dry and a good breezy wind too, which all helps. have seen mr pedersson van a couple of days ago so his pit team is already here. knowing how crump goes round brandon and if fully fit he will win this by a country mile! -

now you could have argued on the basisi of the brandonopolis that £13.65 would be the correct value for the elite league. £16 poor value not when you compare the price in the premier i suspect, 2 teams of elite league reserves £7.50 tops! -
Brandonapolis Is Back
philfromcov replied to Beeone's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
£20 is good value look at the elite league £16 for 15 heats at £1.07 per heat, with out of 14 riders maybe at most three world class riders brandonopolis £20 22 heats £0.91 per heat cheaper and the quality is much better. if you used the elite model entry would be £23.54! some people complain about everyting -

Brandonapolis Is Back
philfromcov replied to Beeone's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
actually the meeting was quite enjoyable, dpending on where you stand! the main point is if we can get old supporters back into the ground thats gotta be good surley? at the moment the core supporters are "happy" to see the elite teams but support is not growing, so once we pop our clogs i suspect that will be the end of the sport, unless you can get some new blood through the gates, if the top stars turn up and say 1000 extra turn up even if only 10% then come back again then it was worth it. i just get the feeling that both the promoters and the supporters have "given up" on ever getting big crowds and are just managing down -

philfromcov replied to Beeone's topic in Speedway Testimonials & Individual and Shared Events
this will be interesting to see what the crowd will be like, do big names pull in the crowds? i know that "lapsed" speedway fans are interested in the brandonopolis as both my6self and missues have been surprissed by how many people "used to go to this" and are considering going! if you can get these prople through the gates again and smell the bikes then i think it will all be worthwhile. if its just the same old faces down the backstraight then this experiment will have achieved nothing. i have a suspicion that it might be busy, just like the gp challenge which was ridiculled on this forum but was probab;ly the biggest crowd outside of the gp and play offs -

sounds like to me ther trying to get a a GP line up, all of a sudden a cut price cardiff is on the horizon.... i remember the 70's and it was agreat event, think you would need semis and a final just like a gp to keep riders interested
