  1. There comes a point where you either run it at a profit, or at least breakeven or not at all, no one unless they are a multi millionaire etc is going to continually write off losses year after year - I remember many a promoter rolling up in a blaze of glory saying how they were/ are going to turn their club into a powerhouse and win the league - they all fade away into obscurity before too long. I can also imagine you have a 'life expectancy' in running something like speedway - to be fair to Buster he has been in the game quite a while now. This is a key line - yes we do but also we have to sometimes accept that maybe we can't - my football team is a small town one (well city now) and they are never going to get into the premier league so I have to make do with lower league and right now Conference league stuff. I don't particularly like it but as a realist i understand thats where we are at the moment. We had some good times in the Championship but it has pretty much bankrupted us - look at Portsmouth - their 'winning' team almost saw them go out of business and the football league. I think part of the issue is us fans sometimes have no sense of realism in their expectations sometimes and then the moment the side loses a game / match or two people are demanding changes often for changes sake! If a manager in football loses the first 3-4 games in a season they are often out the door before the end of October. And of course as fans we have a lot of "I Told you so" experts out there!
  2. He was really good last night at Sheffield 9+2 from a visiting no 2 is about as good as it gets! Completely different track of course but........
  3. Kemp was on the pace last night, think he suprised Holder a bit by leaping out of gate 1 in heat 4 and leading holder for almost 2 laps before he stormed by.
  4. Just imagine how gloomy it might be had they not beaten them!
  5. The reason the Witches won is because I wasn't there, I am a curse - 3 meetings this season 2 at Foxhall - Witches have lost both - 1 at Owlerton last night and the Tigers lost - any away teams want me as a fan?? I seem to guarantee a home defeat!
  6. You can park in some side roads or a bit further away and walk, it was made worse by the roadworks - I spent about 20 minutes queueing to get into the car park, the crowd was also larger than normal so it all had a knock on effect. There also is a paid for Car Park near Hillsborough corner (not sure if its free at night) - its probably a 5-10 minute walk to the stadium from there. Leicester looking a good solid team last night - should have won by more!
  7. I really wonder why some people go to either speedway or sporting events, it seems to stress them out far too much! Pleased for Danny however!
  8. It is yes - never in it tonight - gating was poor as well so he was never in with a chance in any race he was in
  9. He was unlucky / slack in heat 10 lions were cruising to a 5-1 and he clipped the lower fence panel as he threw the bike going into the third bend and down he went along with the others behind him! that 1-5 turned to 3-3 and gave the Tigers a chance to get back into it which they took!
  10. Lions really on form right now - they were pretty solid - Sedgeman was excellent and possible their matchwinner 9+2 was a great score from a visiting no 2 given the stick the track got last week with lack of passing there was plenty of decent racing and passing by tonight!! Plenty of water was put down. Pick of the races was probably any involving Bomber and or Howarth / Pickering. in heat 15 Lawson and Fricke team ride for 2 laps holding up Musielak before he did get past Lawson but he had too much ground to make up - so the Lions got the win they deserved and had almost thrown away.
  11. We had a wee bit of rain (around lunchtime) but suns been out hopefully all clear for tonight
  12. I'd have said get stuffed to em, sadly there is a very bad parochialism in many places - I call it 'smalltownitus'
  13. Pleased he has done well - some weeks he wont do as well but thats all part of it, he is a talent but can frustrate at times for sure. I felt it was wrong that having had decent season last year in both leagues he found himself without a place for 2023.
  14. Pleased to see it as well - it was in my view wrong he didnt get a starting place in either league - waits for the usual waffle and piffle
  15. Oddly I was expecting to be at this one but will be home at Sheffield v Leicester instead - kinda reckon I will see a more even meeting there - anyway I am a curse as the two witches matches I have attended this season have both been losses - is 60 possible - no but 50+ yes.
  16. My first match at Owlerton this season - looking forward to it - rain seems done for the next week now so no issues I hope. I think a home win also but say 48-42
  17. to be fair I once attended a football match in the late 90s where the announced crowd on the night was higher than what was reported in the paper the next day - this match was on Sky Tv. on a friday night as well in what was the the time the now Championship. to be fair lots of other sports I have attended over the years ice Hockey, Basketball Rugby haven't always been that open about attendance either!
  18. it really needs 2 in there to bounce off eachother - Nigel (a huge loss) was the main man too and its clear Tatum would probably be better going back to his role of the co-commentator. It seems odd just having him do it and he probably (still) feels a bit lost withouit Nigel. At least at the GPs he has Chris and there is 2 of them.
  19. Much prefer their camera work - Scott is very good actually yes really grown into that kind of work
  20. Huge amounts of moaning on this thread - some of it seemingly moaning for moaning sakes - was it too hot and everyone just grumpy. The general precedent always used to be unless they have started the last lap then a re-run is *usually called. A bit like if they crash after the first bend *someone has to be be deeemd to be the cause of the stoppage and excluded -thse are long standing speedway rulings! As ever these are at the refs discretion. The crowd seemed very low - then again Ipswich always looked empty when the meeting is on TV - this is a shame as no evident atmosphere - the only times i went to KL was in 1990 and the place was packed out for a bank holiday may meeting and to British final semi final about the same time (maybe 89) again was packed out. There was some good racing King Lynn were in my view a bit unlucky to lose that one. Leicester took advantage to claim a decent away win. Please get rid of helmet cam and do get a producer and or camera man/women/person than understands speedway and the best angles to view a race from, most people would prefer a wider angled view that can show the action going on particularly if there is chance of passing.
  21. He has a touch of the Batchelor about him this year in that one meeting he can be great and then the next his is disappointingly poor - I had hoped he had turned the corner with a decent score at Foxhall the other night but then at Sheffield he and Barker were definitely a weak pairing - in the end of season meeting last year he got 9+1 from 5 at Sheffield including 2 heat wins. His average has also dropped a point now to 6.27 (6.67 inc Bps) thats a point in about a month.
  22. Of course they do yes - they had a stint in the DV before they demolished it -
