Oxford v Ipswich 4th July
GeneralMelchett replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Be closer than monday for sure - Didn't Ipswich win there earlier in the season? - can they repeat this quite possibly! -
Lets hope Tates makes a full recovery. His first crash looked nasty as well. And the people bellowing on here about fault, checking on riders etc need to take a long hard look at themselves!
-
Usual decent home win here - shame for Mountain to be dropped seems he has paid the price for 2 bad recent matches scoring just 2 and 1. Lets see how the new boy does - hes got an in form Keynan Rew in heat 2!!

This season seems to be going v well for Adam, he was up and moving after the crash so hopefully no ill effects! -
I think this is largely as the fans stay away when the TV cameras are in town, I go to Owlerton 4-5 times per season and about the same to Ipswich and the crowds when say BV or Leicester are in Sheffield are usually really good the home straight is largely packed as is the grandstand and usually a very healthly spread on the 3rd and 4th bend. Its never easy to say what the crowd is as no promotion releases figures but easy 2-3k which doesnt match Poland but does Sweden. I would say Ipswich get a decent 2k or so maybe more when it was Peterborough last season or Kings Lynn.

I have found from long experience of working in money and running businesses that humans can be complicated when it comes to parting with money - many will see the value in spending money on something i wouldn't even consider but baulk at the idea of speanding it on something I would happily do so. My company last year employed a young lady (17 y/o) to do some PT data entry etc she was paid a decent £11 an hour - and she would happily spend a weeks wages of that on getting her nails / eyelashes done! I used to have a perks scheme at my work where you could get a free cafe nero coffee every week or month i forget now - but to be honest i would often not use it because i was either lazy or preferred the coffee in Starbucks. I bought 4 pints for my mates (yes I have them) on friday that cost me £23 - about the same as a speedway match - i happily spend that - however i no longer go to league football as I don't consider it value for money any more at £45 or more, yet each week thousands do spend that! Oddly however when i go up to Edinburgh to see my lad I go to Tynecastle and watch Hearts as often its only £20-25 for a ticket which i consder much more reasonable to pay. Again its about the same as a speedway match Some people place great value of things that cost money - some will happily take in a free speedway match simply cos it was free but not pay if they have to - I always get slightly annoyed when people say oh its free great - nothing is free it always costs something somewhere to someone!

Birmingham vs King’s Lynn - June 24th 2024
GeneralMelchett replied to SamKM91's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Things looking up for the Stars - again if they could have not had that points deduction and got their ducks in a row properly and not been playing silly beggers with calls offs etc they could have been up there, as it is they could have a say in the playoffs if they can keep this momentum going. Pleased to see the bigger crowd for Birmingham - and have to say would never have predicted a max for Tungate! -
It might be - however i recall Arena Essex (my team) promoting a free meeting serveral years ago - place was packed of course - lets just say the regulars were back a week later but not the ones that had turned up for free! Great meeting - some really good heats - very much enjoyed that - Fricke was just brilliant

Ipswich v Leicester June 20th
GeneralMelchett replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Witches becoming very strong at home although it seems Leicester were terrible apart form Lawson who is often / usually good at Foxhall. Nice to see almost a full Witches side too - good scores from Danny and Adam as well as Jordan and Keynan - in fact bumper pay night for them all - Thanks to Scott fvor another great showing. Last year Leicester made changes (and it backfired) will they do the same in 2024? -
Last season at Owlertons 2nd match Lidsey was your best rider scoring 10 from 5 (including 2 wins) - on both visits this year he has scored 6 and 5 with 0 heat wins - hes gone backwards this season for sure! Bewley on the other hand scored a terrible 3 last season but as you say has been great at both meetings this year! He was the only one in the cup match that looked like he was riding flat out. Wasn't there last night but he did even better last night it seems

King's Lynn v Oxford 17/06/24
GeneralMelchett replied to Bald Bloke's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Possibly the Peterborough of last season - however wouldnt it be nice (for stars fans) if they could just for once get it right from the beginning of the season! if they hadnt had 2 points taken off and won their home match in hand they would be off the bottom and likely pushing for the last plsyoff spot! They do look decent at home - although with Tobias out for 28 days one wonders if he will return! I hope so as he is a decent rider. As for the crowd or lack of I rather suspect no one is suprised but as someone else says it just seems sad to see a decent match on TV in front of what appears to be a rather sparsely attended meeting, altho i reckon it was maybe about 1000. -
Ipswich Witches 2024 serious team predictions
GeneralMelchett replied to SamKM91's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Largely agree with TTT no point signing anyone just yet plus it looks like Danny King will be back now after his 10+1 at Redcar last night, so the Witches just 1 rider down now - admittedly their best and most influential! -
Oxford v Witches 13th June
GeneralMelchett replied to Badge's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
His form in the last few weeks has been good - he struggled early on - he is the 2nd top BP scorer and 2 recent heat wins occured in the KO cup so not reflected in that 2.84 (with no BP average) - He and Rew are doing fine for now at reserve. -
Ipswich v Sheffield Monday 10th June
GeneralMelchett replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Showing he has a SOH as well! With the exception of his comment about effing off back to Ipswich I dont have a problem with him - i just feel that lacked a bit of class. British Speedway certainly is benefitting from having a lot of the top riders back in my view. He certainly is very decent around Sheffield right now. Your comments about the gates and passing tally with my previous visit which was Leicester in the cup - gate 4 at Foxhall is the new gate 3 at Owlerton! -
Ipswich v Sheffield Monday 10th June
GeneralMelchett replied to Arch Stanton's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I remember these types of shouts / chants - the type heard earlier this season was more boorish football chanting and it just sounded damn stupid at a speedway match! good win for the Witches and it seems that talk of Woffindens demise in the U.K. is perhaps a bit premature - also sort of well done to Jack Holder 3 wins at Foxhall is not normally what he gets! solid thought the Witches however and good to see Adam back scoring well! -

I thought I imagined it when i heard it the other week, it was just one person but it just sounded so naff and out of place at a speedway match!! -

Anyone who has been a fan for a few years will have a tale or two, 99% of fans are good genuine people but you just get the few that are idiots and cant help but show themselves up. Just occasionally on here you feel youve moved to a football forum as there can be the bit of name calling etc. This has definitely developed in the last year or two like you say two of the stronger teams around and of course the rivallry is for now set for a while due to the cup and play off finals last year. The Sheffield home match that got curtailed didn't help either with the long delay after Danny King took out the air bag etc. (Some) riders probably haven't helped the situation either. There is a saying win and lose with good grace! -

Well fair play to KL they have gone out and signed a Grand Prix rider - let’s hope it works out for them! -

Great result - the guests were perfect and it seems Rew is really banging in some big scores right now! -
Kings Lynn v Sheffield 6/6
GeneralMelchett replied to Manifesto's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Good result for KL must boost their confidence, as someone who attended their 58-32 thrashing at Owlerton this season I hope / expect they will do better - but now what are the odds on a KL V Ipswich final I wonder! I think Sheffield will still progress to repeat last years but this isn't over yet!
