  1. Isn't it the same thing with Rafal Konopka replacing Richard Hall at Redcar and Nico Covatti replacing Ed Kennett at Birmingham, with foreign riders taking the job of English riders ? Or is it ok for EU riders to take English riders jobs ?
  2. Agree that no PL team is universally disliked. Since the PL was formed Sheffield's main rivals were Hull until they closed down, plenty of banter on the terraces at those meetings especially in the Sean Wilson/Paul Thorp days. We then had a few disagreements with King's Lynn around 2006/7 and Jonny Chapman in particular. No rivalries like that anymore which is a shame.
  3. I thought the people who saved the club were the people who put the money in and bought the club, as far as I see it, they are all still there. Sure there will be teething troubles as there are with all new businesses, but considering the amount of time the new consortium have had, they are doing a pretty good job. One away win already, that's one more than was managed last season !!!
  4. Press did, practice didn't as it was rained off!
  5. Last info on tigers website on line up is here: http://www.sheffieldspeedway.co/news.php?extend.1500 LINE UP: Simon Stead, Leigh Lanham, Adam Roynon, Andre Compton, Taylor Poole (Sheffield), Patrick Hougaard (Leicester), Josh Auty, Ashley Birks (Scunthorpe), Rory Schlein (Kings Lynn), Ty Proctor (Wolverhampton / Somerset), Cameron Woodward (Eastbourne).
  6. I'd go with that top 5, but would put Andre at 7 and Josh at 6, so Josh gets inside gate in Heat 2 and we have Andre paired with Nielsen in Heat 8.In theory we should have no weak races (particulary at home) with that.
  7. To all Tigers fans, the final STAARS gathering this winter will be next Thursday (13th March 2014) from 8pm at the New Barrack Tavern on Penistone Road, Sheffield (0.5miles south of Owlerton Stadium.) All are Welcome!
  8. Yes, It's been a problem down the home straight at Stoke, how many times have we been there had one heat then half hour delay for sun setting. They need them at Newcastle, they have more first bend bunching/falls in one meeting than Sheffield have in a whole season.
  9. I'm sure they said 52 panels and 8 spares so 60 in total.
  10. The stadium hosts a yearly event in the restaurant and corporate facilities for the Cheltenham Gold Cup Day as well as other major events in the sporting calendar. Info on this years Cheltenham event is here: http://www.owlertongreyhoundracingstadium.co.uk/cheltenham-festival-of-racing We had press and practice on same day as the Cheltenham Gold Cup day in the past and it didn't work too well so the club have taken the correct decision to move P&P back a week when the speedway will have full use of the stadium once the BAGS (afternoon greyhounds) meeting has finished.
  11. Probably will be announced once the takeover has been completed ???
  12. Think you could say that about every major city track in this country. In my 30 years of following the Tigers all over the country the crowds have dropped off everywhere, particulary in the last 5 years. There are too many other things for people to do in a city like Sheffield these days for less money than it costs to go to speedway and it's hard to compete.2 poor/unentertaining teams haven't helped in the last 2 years, there was pretty much only the hardcore supporters left in the second half of last season. The new owners will need to do plenty of marketing/advertising to bring some of the old faces back and bring new ones in.
  13. To all Tigers fans, the next STAARS gathering will be this Thursday (13th February 2014) from 8pm at the New Barrack Tavern on Penistone Road, Sheffield (0.5miles south of Owlerton Stadium.) All are Welcome!
  14. Yes, it was against Rye House in 2006 and one of the best pieces of team riding I've ever seen at Owlerton. He literally dragged Benji round for the 4 laps in a race time 3-4 seconds slower than his normal times. Chris Neath was behind them and wasn't to impressed after the race. Andre would be an asset anywhere in our team, but even more so if at reserve.
  15. Steady round Owlerton most weeks, not forgetting he got a max at Berwick last season winning most of the races by quarter of a lap after not visiting the place for years.
  16. Belle Vue (Hyde Road) - awesome track Bradford (Odsal) - for the sheer size of the stadium Exeter (County Ground) - for the speed and Sheffield generally used to go fairly well round there Trelawny (Moto-Parc) - like having speedway on the moon and a good little racetrack (still don't know how Scud Smith didn't end up in the 3rd bend lake there )
  17. There was a BSPA Management Committee meeting yesterday so may have been discussed there? As for team building/club matters we might not hear much club information until the handover from Neil to the consortium is completed, which according to today's Sheffield Star should hopefully be in the next few days.
  18. To all Tigers supporters, our next STAARS gathering will be next Thursday (9th January 2014) from 8pm at the New Barrack Tavern on Penistone Road, Sheffield (0.5 mile south of Owlerton Stadium) All are Welcome !
  19. Agree, he did the same to Pepe Franc at the OTA in 2010, didn't show much remorse for it either.
  20. To all Tigers fans, the next STAARS gathering will be this Thursday (12th December 2013) from 8pm at the New Barrack Tavern on Penistone Road, Sheffield (0.5miles south of Owlerton Stadium.) All are Welcome!
  21. Think Magnus rides in Swedish second division which is on Thursday's so that would rule him out.
  22. If you're on about Richard Lawson, he's gone to Redcar !!
  23. Agree, Ricky was the only reason to follow the Tigers on the road last year he single-handedly saved us from total embarrassment on the road. After a rocky first season with the Tigers he was brilliant in 2013. Good luck to Ricky in 2014, Worky have made a great signing!!!
  24. To all Tigers fans, the next STAARS supporters gathering is this Thursday (21st November 2013) from 8pm at the New Barrack Tavern on Penistone Road, Sheffield (0.5miles south-east of Owlerton Stadium.) All are Welcome!
  25. This is the latest report from the Sheffield Star last Friday regarding the Eagles moving to Owlerton: http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/other-sports/rugby-league/work-underway-but-will-it-be-home-for-sheffield-eagles-1-6160575
